>elite mob only has one specific weakness
>>724289731i can relate to the witch-king. women are also my weakness
>>724289858I too can relate, getting stabbed in the face is my number one weakness
But he gets stabbed by a magic dagger by a Hobbit before this
>>724290009insecure male cope
>>724290009Hobbits are also not men.
>>724289731>>724289858>>724290062>>724290069she didn't kill the witch king because she was a womanthe prophecy merely stated that it wouldn't be a man that killed the witch kingthe witch king is not weak to non-men, he was simply killed by a non-man
>>724290592This, anyone could have killed him after Merry popped his invincibility bubble with the enchanted Arnorian blade.
>>724290592plus the dagger he was stabbed with just moments before broke his all the protection spells he had on him
>>724290592so his immortality was chromosome coded?
>>724290869No, it was male human coded. He also died to Pippin's hands because he was not a human
>>724290869>>724290961not reallythe prophecy was merely stating what would happenit would be like if you had foreknowledge of where Napoleon would lose his last battle>Napoleon will be defeated lastly at waterlooits not that waterloo has special frog squashing powers, its just that waterloo is simply where he had his last battle and you knew that ahead of time. There was no binding magical contract that it had to be a woman or non-man so to sayalthough arguably the prophecy giver did not know this iirc, but thats beside the pointsure you could make an argument of it being essentially the same due to causality, but thats beyond the scope of what I'm willing to reply to
>>724289731Um actually it was the dagger Pippin had that was specifically made to kill the Witch King
whats more ridiculous is aragorn holds off ring wraiths with a torchhow these niggas sposed to be scary if they cant handle a little fire
>>724291652He fends them off because the wraiths cant sense or incite fear in him which is their main tool against people they face. They still can’t die as being drowned and hit with a tidal wave or burned does jackshit to them in the long run. Only with Saurons death do they truly die.
>>724291652a large theme of the lord of the rings is fear and its effects on moralea large portion of the ringwraithes' power (and Sauron's) was in making people shit their pants on the battlefield and simply give up/fleeTolkien was not only a historian, but fought in the battle of the Somme and wrote during the rise of Nazism and WWII. I'd guess he was deeply inspired by appeasement/german propaganda while writinghaving someone NOT give up/flee despite the danger, and then winning, makes perfect sense in this context (especially as foreshadowing the final battle at the black gate)this also makes a lot of sense considering just how Christian/Catholic the work is (a general christian theme is faith/trusting in God despite the world's seemingly overwhelming dark might/poor odds)this is why soft magic>>>>>hard magic imoco
>>724290823For those who have not read the books, the dagger he has was from a tomb in the witch kings original lands, and was created specifically to kill wights during a war against him thousands of years ago. It's the only real plothole cutting out tom bombadil causes since they get it while in his forest and he explains what it is. The book specifically mentions when merry stabs the witch king that whoever made the dagger would be proud to know it finally found its mark.
>>724292940>soft magic>>>>>hard magicwhat's the difference?
>>724293731Soft magic is being cast with limp magic wand, hard magic is being cast with erect magic wand.
>>724289731If Aragorn just said he identifies as a woman would the attack work?
Lotr has so much gay sexual tension it's unreal (Frodo x Sam, Pippin x Merry, Gimli x Legolas, Aragorn x Boromir, Gandalf x Saruman)No wonder girls love it
>>724293731hard magic has strongly defined rules, if thens outlying the requirements and effects of magic/poweran example would be Full Metal Alchemist with its prime rule of equivalent exchange, demanding that something of equivalent value (either in terms of energy/mass/or sacred value like life) must be given/accessed to attain a desired affect. Like to save a life you must give a life, or needing a certain amount of water nearby to make ice/etc.In this regard, hard magic is more or less just science with a different mode of action.soft magic ultimately is just whatever the author wants at the time, usually it will vaguely make sense, but it has no defined methodology and is kept obscured to the audience. This leans more on mysticism and a mythological mode of operation. More emotion rather than science so to say.an example of this would be Lord of the Rings. What exactly can Gandalf do the answer would be anything Eru wills imho? What exactly does the One Ring do beyond bind the other ring bearers and why is it coveted for its power by men as are not the other ring bearers also aligned against Sauron? Its not really explained other than a vague notion of making the bearer more powerful (unless its Frodo apparently). Usually this sort of magic is best for getting a story's themes across, as it allows the author to just do whatever they want in the moment.Star Wars also falls into the category. or at least it did before the whole midichlorians thing. The force just does....whatever the force does in the original movies. However this is more of a spectrum rather than a binary, a good example of this would be Harry Potter, where there are some rules, but really magic just does whatever.Whichever one prefers is based largely on what they want for a story. Want a puzzle given and solved by the author? Hard magic. Want something to vaguely better articulate some nebulous concept? Soft Magic.
>>724290592Yeah he could have been taken down by a non-binary identifying person
>>724294484thanks for the rundownHard magic is for fags
>>724294642I'm honestly glad that Tolkien died before modern gender politicskeeps him pristine for all
>>724294305>gay sexual tensionSounds like you just don't have any close friend(s)
Seems like he could have been taken down by a lucky arrowA female Legolas could have popped him
>>724294830Tolkien died in the 70s a perfect time before all the garbage of the 80s came into being and before browns started to destroy his nation.
>>724295163>female LegolasYou mean Tauriel :^)
Pippin truly has the best ending
>>724289858I can relate too. hearing a woman for more than 2 seconds is my weakness as well
