Find a single flaw.
>makes you want to bang reptilesnah bro :skull_and_crossbones: :skull_and_crossbones: :skull_and_crossbones: :wilted_rose:
sequels felt too much like the first game. which is not a flaw with the first game.
>>724294932It isn't Spyro 2
>>724295203Holy based
>>724294932Very bad bosses.
>>724294932Music and levels get too samey
>>724298369desu this is my only complaint, they feel more like just tougher common enemies than appropriately boss-like, in fact there are some common enemies that are more difficult than bosses I mean fuckin hell, Gnasty himself despite the stage itself, takes just two fire breaths and he's dead
>>724300750That jack in the box fella created a female chris chan and that will always be funny
>>724294932best insomniac game. it's really sad what happened to those guys after this. 2 and 3 were a step down because they were too gimmicky, and then ratchet and clank was pretty good for about 3 or maybe 4 games before insomniac just became completely unable to produce anything worthwhile whatsoever. It's kind of crazy how many shit games in a row they've put out now, I think they're up to 30 in a row now. Especially considering they cost like $300M to make at this point. As for a flaw... Well, the cutscenes are pretty jank. A lot of the dragons aren't animated that well. Honestly it's a basically a 10/10 perfect game though, I really had to think to come up with something.
>>724295203based
>>724298369>>724300750Is this inherently a bad way to handle bosses? It's asking the player to do what they've been doing the whole game instead of doing something never done before and outside of the main gameplay loop.
>>724301323It's not bad but it is disappointing. You just went through many stages of a world, it's not wrong to want a better payoff/gameply height
>>724301323>Is this inherently a bad way to handle bosses? It is if the final boss is nothing more than a glorified tutorial.
I remember toasty being scary and killing me a lot but he was really easy when I played the remakebtw boss battles are gay anyway. screw that dark souls crap
>>724295203The first game is better, but 2 and 3 are still great. Going back to 2, i wasn't a fan of it being all mini missions in a level compared to the original just collecting shit. The atmospheric hub worlds in 2 are fantastic, though.
Peace Keepers is a bit of a lull compared to the rest of the home worlds.Tree Tops and Haunted Towers do infamously break the pace a bit with their respective obtuse dragon. The Gnasty "fight" is horrible. That's it, really. It's just a perfect 3D platformer. There's more to be said about 2 and especially 3. Ugh, 3...
>>724301942>Tree Tops and Haunted Towersi love these two levels, tree tops especially. they weren't able to replicate these two ever again
>>724301489>screw that dark souls crapbut anon, dark souls isn't about the bosses!!!reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
first game has a really special desolate oneiric atmosphere that got lost in the sequels
>>724300991>Every single last drop of soul was sucked out of Insomniac in 2012 when the rapture/Mayan apocalypse/video game crash/E3 2012 happened and they released the second Overstrike trailerYeah, no one deserves their fate.
>>724294932flying sections time trial shit
I liked the flying levels
I haven't played it in a while, does 1 have the speed and fire breath powerups or did those first appear in RiptoDoes it have any powerups at all
>>724303265i remember latest secondary level with 100% got a flying powerup but thats it
>>724302519Yeah this, and it's probably my favorite thing about the game. The tone of it is almost kind of sad
>>724300946Jacques did what? Who?
>>724294932its boring.
>>724302519True but I'd say several places in the sequels do manage to replicate it (to a degree) as well, the ones that immediately come to mind are the Icy Peak supercharge sub-level and Enchanted Towers skatepark, I think the fact they're both sub-levels in already inaccessible-feeling levels contributes to the desolate feel>>724303398Agreed, it's kind of interesting how delicate that feeling is since I didn't get it at all in the remakes despite them technically being 1:1 conversions so you know it wasn't unintentional, they really pulled off some magic on the PS1
>>724303265fairy kiss for ironmelting fire and the supersprint are in 1. powerups in 2 also include lavawalk and flying. the firebreath was a bit different, too.
>>724303265Yes, but you get them from specific areas (speed comes from running down supercharge ramps, fire comes from fairies kissing you)
>>724298369>>724300750The bosses could've been a bit tougher with more intricate battle design but it would've filtered kids, I remember Scorch in 3 basically putting an end to my playthroughs and he wasn't that much harder than the bosses in 1, but is trivially easy these days
>>724294932>Mario 64 for poor peopleeh, it's okay
>>724304269nonsense. that's like saying driver is the poor man's gta, because both have cars.
>>724304269Here come the delulu Americans
>>724304472>Producer and designer Michael John cited Super Mario 64 as an influence on Spyro the Dragon, with its long views, architectural landmarks, and playable hub area. Insomniac consciously made their game have more collectibles than Super Mario 64 and were inspired to make their character fundamentally fun to control.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyro_the_Dragon#DesignYou were saying?
>>724304573Mario is just Pac-Land for poor people, Miyamoto cited it as an inspiration after all
>>724304573>missing the pointat least you didn't ask chatgpt
>>724304513>>724304607>>724304613The COPE has begun lmfao. You guys do understand that Spyro was only created because of Mario 64, right? That's why it launched over 2 years later. It's literally their attempt at making a similar game.
>>724304758You do understand SMB was only created because of Pac-Land, right? That's why it launched a year later, it's literally their attempt at making a similar game.
i wish we could have discussions in good faith instead of this
>>724304820>IRRELEVANT WHATABOUTISMconcession accepted, have a good day =)
Stop feeding the SM64 shitstirrer plz. Or do. He's starting to suspiciously sound like that new sharty AI thing.
>>724304886>nooo stop pointing out my hypocrisyYou don't know what whataboutism means btw
>>724304917It means you have lost the argument and you're DESPERATELY trying to change focus to a completely different irrelevant one. I'll bite though, just for fun, because I've already won this one. What are the design similarities between SMB and Pac-Land? Also, go ahead and show some proof that the producers/designers of smb tried to deliberately create a game like pac-land (as is the case for spyro, as shown above).I'll wait =)
>>724305053Anon, you have already lost, you are defending a Temu version of the GRANDADDY of games, Pac-Land
I've been looking for 3D platformers that are of a similar level of quality lately. There have been a few in the last couple of years, I was particularly impressed with Big Catch Tacklebox. Tonally Pseudoregalia also has a cool oneiric vibe, and both games have very well-made movement systems. I've tried to play about 60 other games now and most of them don't quite get there though. I think Spyro has become somewhat underrated though, a lot of games don't seem to take as much influence from it.
>>724304573doesn't count, because i said so
>>724305103>Shigeru Miyamoto himself also says that Pac-Land had an influence on Super Mario Bros., but to a lesser extent, saying that while he was in Tokyo seeing Namco has developed a platforming game he decided that he should follow suit. The only feature of Pac-Land Miyamoto cites as a direct inspiration was the blue background of the game as opposed to the black ones he typically would put in his games.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac-Land#LegacyLMFAO
I think it really needed to expand more on Gnastys World. Originally it was gonna be a world where some engineering/mechanist dragons lived but then they went with the whole “dragons use magic and respect nature” vibe compared to the gnorcs. It needed its own hub area to explore and at least two more levels. Maybe a nuclear reactor type level or something.
>>724305242>"uhh we only copied the color of the sky the fact that it play exactly like Pac-Land is a complete coincidence we came up with that independently">dumb fag who wanted to patent jumping says dumb shit to preserve his company's legacy and mythos>Miyamoto privately confided in the Pac-Man creator that Pac-Land was a profound influence on SMB but couldn't bring himself to admit it publicly All cower before the EL GRANDE PADRE of video games, Pac-Land
>>724294932Every level isn't as good as Tree Tops.
For me it's Dark Hollowhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhqNfvJLEss
>>724300750>I mean fuckin hell, Gnasty himself despite the stage itself, takes just two fire breaths and he's deadYeah, but you have to basically speed run his course to keep up with him and get those off.His little obstacle course is the real boss honestly.
>>724306027COPE&SEETHE
>Dragon Egg collectables just completely stop appearing in the back half of the game. Not a major criticism, but it's always bugged the shit out of me.
>spyro>crash bandicoot>banjo kazooie>croc>donkey kong>ratchet and clank>jak and daxter>sly cooper>we'll never go back to this era of fantastic variety not-mario platformers
>>724304269Super Mario Bros. is Pitfall for weeaboos
How many people here were on the darkSpyro forums
>>724294932>fucking treetops>there are a handful of dragons, like less than 5 probably and you don't need them to beat the game which are annoying as fuck to find, like on treetops>the gameworld feels empty and lonely compared to 2 and especially compared to 3 I think they simplified the maps too much in 2 and 3 due to people seething about treetops. is it both of them or just 3 where every map's a circle?
>>724300991>it's really sad what happened to those guys after this. 2 and 3 were a step down because they were too gimmicky,2 and 3 weren't super their fault. I think they spent more time on spyro 1, spyro 2 and 3 had hard deadlines and had to be completed in a year and there's some weird thing where insomniac was subcontracted by universal who paid for the game. it's why naughtydog and insomniac just dropped the crash and spyro games after the 3rd games
>>724307823>that feeling when you never had an issue, even as a fucking toddler, with treetopsis it really hard for people to figure out or is it just a meme?
>>724308117I died more times on the treetops in reignited than the all 3 games combined. Plus you have to be close to the thief to know to make a 180 turn
>>724307823>fucking treetopsUnironically the best level if you know how to use the supercharge properly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76mpL91XfZYBased Stewart Copeland. It was weird listening to a bunch of him and his work, then later finding out he made these soundtracks.
>>724308238yeah for me it was like discovering flight in other games, when suddenly you have freedom you normally dont have. kino moments.kind of like if you glitch spyro to be able to fly in a regular level by accident too.Really didnt take long to figure it out, and I was 5~6 at the time. I couldnt even properly tell the time by the time I had figured out how to 100% that level
THANK YOU FOR RELEASING ME
The platforming difficulty in Spyro never really scales up beyond "I think I can glide from here to there". Once you've made that tight glide from the hill to that little platform on the wall in the Artisan's homeworld you've basically seen everything the game has to offer as far as platforming challenges go, with the sole exception of that 5d supercharge you have to do on treetops.I love it as an exploration game but it's really not interesting as a platformer.
>>724302519This is what I loved as a kid. All the moments of him flying out into that endless void between levels
I remember when some fags made a shitty Spyro statue to support Ukraine or something
>>724303435I forget the name but there's a permanant kiwifarms thread about this autistic femcel who draws crude pornography of Jaques fucking her
>>724300946I forgot about that. I remember being linked to some shit she did on deviantart of jacques being tortured with a penis milking machine years ago.
>>724309815yeah but what would you do? He is a quadruped and if you make him fly the whole level design goes to shitit would be interesting to see a more adventure/rpg game
>>724301323it makes the bosses look bitchmade
>>724303265the it has both, but the breath powerups are only in a few levels, you get them from fairy kisses. the speed ramps are more common
>>724307069they didn't have a way to gate progress with eggs after a certain point
What are the best games since spyro 1 like spyro 1?
>>724294932Perfect game 10/10
>>724309815I remember a tricky supercharge in a dreamweavers world as well.I might be outing myself as a shitter, but there was a single difficult combat section as well on one of the beastmaker worlds. The one with a ton of those tiny bipedal chihuahuas that also show up in R&C 2>>724307120just enjoy the indie speedrunner slop platformers goyim
>>724294932Is there any game with an aesthetic as good as Spyro?
>>724295203This guy gets it.
>>724295203/thread.3 too.
Are there any other games that capture the 'serene fever dream' aesthetic the same way PS1 Sypro (especially Spyro 1) did?
