What's your opinion about gamblelikes/statlikes?

Games in which skill plays a minor role, instead you are guaranteed an eventual win after metaprogression upgrades give you permanent upgrades that boost your chances to win runs massively.
Recent examples:
>Ball X Pit
>Slots and Daggers
>Cloverpit
>Gigabonk

Are they immoral? Are they less honest and not as good as games without metaprogression? Or are they just a natural progression for indies?

I stopped playing every single game that relies on luck. I used to be a huge fan of Xcom but I could never go back to it now. I skipped BG3 just because of its combat system.
I cant believe I spent a good chunk of my childhood playing CIV IV with those retarded >99% to win against a barbarian musketeer with my modern tank
>ends up losing
Eat my fucking ass. Luck based games are cancer.

I put down The Last Spell because of it, played in beta where there was only one map and the only way to unlock new buildings/weapons was to get a little bit further and lose. It felt like the game was telling me I had to lose X amount of times before I'd have a shot at winning, glad it was mostly changed later on.

My first encounter with terrible metaprogression came in the form of Rogue Legacy though, I played through a few deaths, realized my stats were ballooning far beyond my original run, then saw it was the game essentially putting me on easy mode the more I played. I'll stick to games that lock the difficulty in from the start and reward the player for mastering them, if I'm going to play these games now I just cheat and unlock everything from the start and either steamroll the game or enjoy it for what it is if it's balanced around having everything. Loop Hero was the last game I did that on.

The other day I lost my first xcom enemy within run because of extremely bad luck that had me lose 4/ my 7 veterans in one fight. I don't like reloading saves, nor do I want to replay the game with my current, superior understanding of how to snowball economy first. 10 hours down the drain.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable Earthboundlike gambling game to come out. Levels of slop once thought impossible.

BG3 was such a huge disappointment to me. I loved DOS1 and 2, and then BG3 was this disgusting facsimile of the previous games where it's so close to being the same but instead of your strategy mattering you just lose to dice rolls.
>>
why am i seeing the word metaprogression so much lately. i feel like i stepped into an alternate universe where percentage based drops turns an entire game into a gamblinglike or some other gayops term, speaking of earthbound if it released today would you say that difficult rare bat's drop makes earthbound a gamblinglike metaprogression game?

the three first hit indie games I just mentioned released within 30 days, maybe that has something to do with you seeing it being discussed recently, dumbfuck.

It's funny this is what we get after walking sims were shit on for years, it proves story/experience is better than gameplay sometimes

Still more brain cells than the typical Undertale/Deltarune fan.

>Rogue Legacy
man that game is ANCIENT for the roguelite scene.

I like the concept of the last spell but wish it had less metaprogression, a reasonable ceiling, and the devs would stop fucking aroudn with WE ADD MORE LATE GAME DIFFICULTY FOR THE 1% ON OUR DISCORD. I just want a randomised FFTA-like.
>>
>>724298330
what the fuck does metaprogression mean when these types of number chasing games have existed for years now
>>
>>724298552
I picked up the game again but set it down just because the later maps got really difficult. I was determined to beat the game with my first try on every map, made it to the second to last non-DLC map, and I'm just a night before the boss. The waves haven't really caused any real damage yet and I've got fully upgraded stone walls with the maximum amount of tall ballistas but I know what's coming up afterwards and I just don't want to deal with it. It seems like the boss just starts instant killing people once he becomes mobile, and the stupid braziers you have to put out are annoying. Right now, I just let the ghosts run wild because it's easier to heal through them than it is to try and go extinguish them.

Lazy genre with no game design made for streamers to shill. Better than gacha but not by much. I don't like games heavily featuring RNG.
>>
>>724298734
Man. I've not touched the DLC yet.
It's a game I find would be ideal as a pocket/travel game because the amount of mental load it takes to go through your whole post-battle phase is large. You can spend 20 minutes deciding what loot to take, repairing things, upgrading people, positioning people, etc. With less punishing lategame RNG I'd have played the shit out of it in the GBA/DS days when I was playing FFTA on the bus on the way to high school.

>>724298832
That game genuinely looks like family guy subway surfers soap cutting with the goon corner. Why the fuck is there a generic anime just standing there?
>>
Brainrot has made the average person unable to describe anything without likening it to something via the word like and I'm tired of it.
I only games goodgameslike
>>
>>724298832
dev likes trannies
shan't be playing this dreck
>>
I don't understand who plays these games. They just waste your time. I already didn't like roguelikes because of that, and this new genre is even more fucking retarded. I think you have to legitimately be a moron to enjoy them, the same types people who get addicted to slot machines.
>>
>>724299384
>waste your time
As opposed to playing video games that don't? The fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>724297750
What anon? You don’t like when you have good items and skills but lost your entire team because of a dice roll ?
>>
>>724299572
>a dice roll
what game exists that doesn't have RNG??
>>
>>724299469
If you can't understand the difference between a game designed to waste your time and a game designed to be fun I don't know what to tell you. Just go play cookie clicker for the rest of your life bro
>>
>>724299041
>Why the fuck is there a generic anime just standing there?
You can't be fucking serious
>>
>>724299041
Vtrannies are not anime, tourist wretch
>>
>>724299683
?
>>724299694
So it's not an anime if it's a 3D model now?
>>
>>724299745
It's a streamer streaming the shitty game
>>
>>724297750
so you don't play a single videogame? even mario has luck in it
