So does organic life have the same chemical and cell structure across the galaxy in that universe. Or is it some bullshit explenation like the flood in Halo?
>>
>>724304889
Several different versions
>No one fucking knows
>It's a weapon against humans, who were the weapons of another precursor race
>It's supposed to recreate some supreme alien being from the amassed organic matter
>Lets these living moons know there is life to conaume in the universe again
>>
Markers cultivate sentient life and then millions of years later suck it all up into flesh moons.

So maybe some alien race really wanted a bunch of flesh moons.
>>
>flesh moons are an ayyliens version of chicken tendies
>>
what if the flesh moon woke up?
>>
>>724304889
see thats why this wont happen irl since population growth collapsed and we wont have an energy crisis
>>
i would've never guessed after playing 1 and 2, this one concluding with a psychic battle against the marker, that it was meant to create moon tendies for other living moons
>>

Ok, lets strip you of your rights then. Problem solved.
>Nooooo it wasn't me who was supposed to be a slave with no rights, I was supposed to be on the top REEEEEE
>>
>>724304889
They're hidden booby prizes for any civilization that starts planet cracking to avert an energy/resource crisis.
The civilization's tech and knowledge base gets used to create a new marker or just propagate the booby prize system.
Considering how many countless iterations are possible, the markers may not have even started out capable of doing that and it's just a paperclip maximizer situation.
>>724305992
Organic life is almost certainly going to be in fluid suspension and have some kind of self-replication machinery.
It really just needs to manipulate that machinery to create whatever it wants using its limited ability to act on matter.

Nukes are one and done. Markers are basically self-propagating.

The Markers imprison the minds of the races that encounter them (while butchering them dead in meatspace) and they also infect anyone who had any contact with the Marker so the Marker Moons could trace their movement and find new worlds full of organics to MERGE & genocide.

>It makes it a bit more apparent Nicole is already dead so the twist isn't as hard-hitting.
>Combat is made worse due to the skin system.
>Many guns were overhauled for better (Contact Beam is finally usable) and worse (Force Gun now basically does nothing outside of rip skin).
>They implemented DS2 and DS3 zero-g but with a worse control scheme.
>You are now forced to backtrack and find entrances to areas that the tram took you to in the original.
Hydroponics for example requires you to go to the Hangar Bay where you fixed the tram via Kinesis and there's a door there to it. They also do this to get to the Bridge where Kyne is.
>There is now a security system in place to force you to backtrack to older areas if you want blueprints for ammo or other items.
>RIGs are mostly worse than what the original had, but the most egregious one is the Advanced Soldier RIG.
>Doors can now stunlock you if you stand in them to peek into the area connected to it.
>Impossible difficulty is now just a Hardcore version of Hard and the highest the difficulty gets is Hard.
>Game is significantly easier than the original.
>Kinesis brings in the impaling from DS2 and DS3 but it can't one-shot lower tier Slashers at all so it's not as effective.
>They added new rooms to many parts of the map and reworked others.
Basic example is in Engineering there's that room past the workbench where you have to follow a tram across the ship to pull some levers, but in Remake it now forces you to either remove all the oxygen or turn off the lights entirely.

One theory is that the ones who made the markers made them to reanimate themselves and were compatible with themselves only.
This however backfired, the aliens never got reanimated, then some other aliens came and everything went downhill until it resulted in a Brother Moon. Then said abomination send out markers here and there to find life and the cycle continued until we ended with a Fermi Paradox where everyone except humans and the Brethren Moons are dead.

BTW, that alien race that made the markers? Must've been insectoid considering the Necromorphs have some insectoid elements in their designs.
>>
>>724316320
It wasn't that bad on controller and the replacement isn't exactly better. It's literally just a straight line where they reuse the "Go into these cubbyholes to dodge asteroid showers while Necromorphs spawn" gimmick leading up to it.

The franchise suffered from really shitty writing. Too much of the lore and backstory required other games and media to understand. It's also retarded that you don't use a planet cracker ship to defeat the moon. How incompetent do you have to be to write a story like this
>>
>>724317219
>It's also retarded that you don't use a planet cracker ship to defeat the moon.
That's not how the planet crackers work. You'd need thousands if not tens of thousands of Marker-immune people to fly the thing, land on the Moon itself, set up gravity tethers, manually dig out around said gravity tethers, and only then could the planet cracker do anything. It's not some magical ship, it's a glorified truck pulling on a rope.

Issac has more agency since he talks in this one. Instead of just being bossed around the whole time by Hammond and Daniels he is the one who usually thinks up the solutions to the current problem as the engineer. Which makes him come across as more competent and know what he is doing.

They also go a bit more in detail with what the marker is actually trying to accomplish in order to be more in line with the sequels, since in the original dead space, the Marker's function and what it was actually trying to do almost seems to be the complete opposite to what they do later in the series.

The Tyranids are the only ones who employ actual military strategy, but the Flood seem pretty unbeatable to me since they're airborne spores. Like if the Tyranids tried eating a Flood, that would just make another Flood. I'm sure a 40k fanboy would try to say something like "but they would muh evolve"
>>
>>724324850
Can only provide opinion on flood and necromorphs but the flood seems more dangerous considering it can assimilate living matter as well.
Necromorphs in themselves are quite fragile, if the marker wasn't brainwashing everyone a good squad could wipe them all out on one planet easily.
>>
>>724325886
I mean, their whole shtick is absurd maximalist version of this kind of organism. Dissolving all mater, repurposing it and adapting, down to molecules. Tyranids have organisms of all ranges and sizes. They probably will get wrecked by flood for a while, but will evolve to counter it eventually, sure. Maybe not even fully and still be susceptible to corruption. At this point we gotta compare their psychic hivemind powers instead of purely physical capabilities.

They are gigantic organic moons that can travel at FTL speeds, how the fuck would you reasonably go at them with a planet cracker? Even if they don't have to employ the "regular" process, it will still take time, time that the other moons can use to fuck you up.
>>
>>724329152
That solution does not work, especially if you read how planet cracking works in DS1.
>A crew arrives two years in advance to land on the planet and set up gravity tethers.
>They then have to excavate around the gravity tethers so the pop can happen at all.
>Then the planet cracker itself finally comes into place a year later, aligns with the tethers on the planet, and pulls really hard to "pop" it.
None of this is possible to do with a Moon. It also completely ignores the fact the entire planet cracker and the people sent onto said Moon would need to be staffed exclusively with people immune to the Marker signal, said people will go insane anyway since the dying one on Tau Volantis was enough to drive Isaac of all people insane for a bit let alone a living one, and the Moons themselves move faster than light because they were able to reach Earth from deep space faster than Isaac and Carver could with a Shock Drive.

Everyone who brings this up only takes the name "planet cracker" at face value.
>>
>>724313630
Necromorph zombie magic straight up does not care, it's already reanimating dead tissue that shouldn't be able to move around in that manner
>>
>>724319274
It's a well known bug. IIRC clicking "continue game" or whatever it was called would sometimes reset your game's difficulty to medium no matter what. You have to manually load the saves. To unfuck a save you need to use a hex editor CE, I don't really remember which one it was.
>>
>>724304889
I'm not sure if it's intentional. My headcanon is that the technology was triggered accidentally and killed its creator. It's like a paperclip optimizer AI. Just multiply and consume until the entire galaxy is dark, with no real endgoal. The lights are on but nobody's home, the thing just follows its need to propagate.

its the most thematically correct answer. easily to write it like overclock the gravity tether by rerouting power from a captured marker or something. like usual, isaac just juryrigs a solution from his ass. whatever ds4's conclusion would be, it would have to be written as messy, desperate, and held together by duct tape.
>>
>>724324850
Warframe and flood would be in a stalemate or combine into something even worse. Nothing else stands a chance.
>>
>>724304889
I’ve played the OG games like ten times and still have no idea how this thing works. Does it make you suicidal and then reanimate your corpse? If so, what’s the point of the stingray infectors?
>>
>>724329152
>>724329938
One more thing I forgot to mention is that the Moons themselves can spawn Necromorphs as well. So imagine an infinitely respawning horde of Necromorphs that can tear apart metal and no location on the Moon itself is safe because it can just keep spawning them to stop what you're doing. In ideal situations it takes them two years to set up the tethers and excavate, and then it takes a week of the planet cracker itself setting up to even pull on the tethers which then takes another 24 hours to actually pull it.

>>724330601
The gravity tether needs to connect to tethers on whatever it is pulling and it still takes 24 hours to pull it up. It itself does not pull on the object, it's like you attaching a rope to an object with a truck and then driving the truck to pull said object out. You're basically saying the truck should drive off with no rope and expect the object to be pulled out.

Realistically the Moons would likely be destroyed by the ayy lmao tech from the end of DS3 since they managed to keep the Moon of Tau Volantis in stasis, and Ellie would have found a group along with Isaac and Carver to figure out how it worked.

Marker signal does make people go insane, hallucinate, grow violent etc. Unless they are special or smart like Isaac and some others. Any dead tissue having a contact with necromorph material starts to transform. It's in the name. Infectors can kill you and expedite the process significantly directly. I think if there is any dead meat close to Marker, it can be transformed into necromorph. That's how og infection started when they've unearthed it. That's depicted in a wii spin-off game.

Yeah on phone if you found the apk and if you're looking into emulating on pc you just emulate the android version running it? It must be floating around on the internet.

>Andromeda Strain
Necromorphs can produce strong acids/bases, don't need to have human blood pH and aren't strictly reliant on a vascular system to propagate, given that clumps of dead skin cells and other biological waste are being repurposed as death machines.
>>724329990
I mean, necromorph zombie magic does need to build some kind of infrastructure in its host in order to make use of its full potential and it needs to be able to do things to dead bodies for them to be functional or adapt to new circumstances.
The infectors deploy some kind of rapid catalyst, otherwise dead bodies are content to remain dead bodies for a long time and most necromorphs can't spontaneously regrow limbs.
The marker can effect living tissue in order to induce hallucinations, but it also can't just instantly kill someone.
Freezing a planet halted the necromorph outbreak indefinitely until it was thawed.

Shittiest theory in history. First, to be able to detect intelligent species is possible at a much lower technological level than the level of technology it takes to hide those signals. Second, if intelligent species are that advanced then triangulating the location of hostile species, even if they seeded the entire universe with independent acting platforms to eliminate other species, would be trivial, as would then alpha striking and eliminating those hostile species. Third, this would result in the opposite of a Dark Forest scenario, as cooperative species would quickly form alliances and shut out every hostile species.

The Dark Forest is the shittiest of the, "Where's all the intelligent species?!" answers to the Fermi Paradox. The only way it can work is for the equivalent of one of the Culture series Sublimated elder species to have reached its pinnacle with absolutely no competition, be hostile and active in the universe, and yet somehow not bother to be proactive in eliminating potential future competitors before they can even approach the possibility of being a competitor despite detection of such potential species being trivial.

>Wait, can you expand on that?
A government is a monopoly on force. Any decently successful security contractor has to be proactively destroyed by whatever government it's in competition with. Wagner's ops that overlap the Russian sphere were rolled into the MoD after their penal casualties were no longer needed. They continued to operate with some independence in Africa for a year or so but are being gradually replaced by Russian military units.

Blackwater suffered a similar fate. Eric Prince was instrumental to providing security for VIPs in Iraq. One day they got ambushed and were unable to retreat due to a large vehicle being disabled at the beginning of the firefight. Blackwater kept meticulous records and was able to account for everything that happened in all of their combats including this one. The QRF was attacked in Tahrir square. They were there as part of a mission to defend a VIP, who needed to retreat through Tahrir square. They were unable to retreat. The first vehicle that Blackwater shot at turned out to not be involved in that attack and drove at the Blackwater convoy aggressively for unknown reasons. Eric prince was prevented from giving most of this evidence at the trial, and charges were enforced based on one of Prince's employees falsely testifying against himself. This all according to Prince in a book he wrote about the incident. I happen to know someone whose friend died in the backseat of the civilian car. That woman went to church the week prior and told everyone God had shown her a vision that she would die, she'd made peace with it, and this would be her last communion. The driver, iirc, was a male college student who couldn't have possibly had motive and was driving his mom and her friend.

Blackwater, after getting backstabbed by the US, changed names, left Iraq, and followed the plot of MGSV. They operate out of an offshore oil platform in the Seychelles and mostly provide security for conflict minerals in Africa.

Not but close.
Reapers used to be the robot caretakers of some ancient big brain alien whales, their directive was "preserve organic life".
But then the reapers reached the conclusion "at some point some race will unlock the skynet tech and some big AI rebellion will end all life, so we must "prune" all civilizations every 50k years or so".

Because the person who made it was long dead, and it could no longer spur on a convergence event.
So, it wanted to be put in a singular, recognizable spot for isaac and kyne, so it could implant the marker blueprints in them, to spur on convergence events elsewhere.
You gotta remember they're basically just big antennae, the brotha moons are clearly capable of observing, to some degree, the state of the worlds which are impacted by markers, and likely influence the code sent out.

That's how all the (red) markers work. The person who made them has to be killed/die and be absorbed to kick off convergence. aegis VII's marker was hundreds of years old and the guy who made it was not only off planet but LONG dead, so it wasn't possible, the marker realized this, and attributed a stand down order to the necromorphs (which is why when you're in range of it, they start getting slower/pseudostasis affected). The idea is to implant isaac with the blueprint for a new marker, so he'll make it, and then be the one to kick off the event.

Apparently there was a debate between the creators of the first game on whether the Marker was actually evil, and if those ghosts people see like Nicole were a positive force.

Because if you kind of look at dead space 1 in a vacuum. The Nicole ghost helps you get the marker to the planet which stops the outbreak. Which seems like a positive outcome.

It isn't until dead space 2 where it is firmly established that yes the marker is evil and the ghosts are not helpful.

Of course, and that's a valid discussion to be had, in the vacuum of the first game. But anon was just asking so I gave the answer the game provides in later entries. It's not really up for debate in that regard.

I think the potential for markers to not be entirely nefarious beings would have required an explicitly different path of storytelling from the getgo, they're built up as evil from day 1. The people on the dev team who said they aren't are the same retards who whine about media literacy.

There's really no incentive in buying it. The original plays fine on PC, some glitches here and there but they're easily fixable with a few graphic tweaks.

Wouldn't have the objective of the aliens be more easily achievable through pleasure? The games should have people having sex all over the ship and you evading all the girls trying to suck your dick.

The developers aren't coomers like you, so maybe you can make your own porn parody of dead space? Maybe call it Fuck Space? Dead Sex?

>igure out where the attack came from by analyzing the data sent by the probes
If you can observe the aliens, they can also observe you

What makes the Reapers and the Moons so different are different things.

First of all,the reapers are just following a very boring programming based on their previous creators. This robs them agency on what they are doing, and unlike the BETA from Muv Luv their interactions toward the biological life is not as interesting either..whike the moons act like actual animals. They are just arvesting their own food in order to eat and breed, ending up being the dominant species in the universe following a very scary “big fish in thw pond” rule. Feeling and acting like very predatory animals makes them scarier.

And also the efficency. Reapers themselves always fails to 100% exitinguish the galaxy, or else they won’t be able to continue their program.
Meanwhile the Moons are more efficent in their doing. Each time a moon was created except for the very game it happens, it was always 100% game over for the whole race that interacted with them. Not a single surviving race…everything is dark , cold and scary. And they do not need to spare people either, just drop a new marker on a planet full of organic stuff and game is done.

>3rd game is a coop game
>Set up perfectly for the coop bud to be Ellie
>Sorry but NO, you get some just introduced jarhead
>Ellie? Oh she's fucking some CHAD.

I think they intended for Ellie to be the main character in the fourth game but it got scrapped

Great comic, loved the ending

Can we finally admit it really wasn't bad? Sure some of the wokeslop changes are abhorrent, but having a more polished version of Dead Space 1 will all the best parts of Dead Space 2 (better gameplay and fucking Gunner Wright) make up for it.

It was to establish the world and Earth's lack of resources and desperation to continue as a species.

What does a Brother Moon do while waiting for the next Convergence or sign of a viable planet?
They're clearly very intelligent beings. Do they just idly float around in space playing psychic Werewolf with each other for millennia at a time?

It is so fucking cool. God I wish I could be working on one. Fuck my job I want to help break open planets.
