What's the point of it being a videogame?Might as well just have made a tv show.
>>724312673>What's the point of it being a videogame? It's for girls.
I got the same vibe. I think Critical Role is trying to create a new cash cow now that the D&D show isn't as popular.
>>724312673A lot of people who cant make movies/tv shows get into videogame's as a way to 'make their show'.Its why a lot of writing is cringe, and lots of games feel like its posing.
>>724312673How young are you?
>>724312673It was originally pitched as a live action TV show
>>724312673Probably easier to pitch as a video game than a cartoon
They probably tried and it just didn't work out. So they made the next best thing.
>>724312673It’s entirely for social engagement and viral marketing. If you were here for the Telltale Walking Dead bullshit, you’d be intimately familiar with the “Whose asshole did YOU rimjob on your playthrough, /v/?” discussions that plagued this fucking board for months. That’s what they hope to achieve with this game. It has “choices” because they want you to share what illusionary decision you picked and speculate on what kind of red/blue/green end result your choice will produce. It’s soap opera trash for nerds.
this one was fun thoughit still is the best Borderlands game
>>724312673They probably have significantly more creative freedom.Gabe doesn’t give a fuck what they add in or demand redesigns
>>724312673I thought it was pitched as a TV show first but that nobody wanted to air it so they made it into a video game.
>>724316612It's probably for the best. It would be forgotten instantly as live action because the format is overdone and there's no way they would had the budget to not make it look cheap, along with dealing with executives just trying to turn it into yet another clone of The Office. But it's been long enough since the surge of capeshit AND telltale/telltale-like games in vidya that it's probably going to stick in memories a little longer.
>>724313950not a gamebarely important in the borderlands universe
>>724313950was fun, they still fucked up any followup to the story
>>724312673I really enjoyed the 2 episodes. Characters were nice, powers were ok, i honestly love the idea of "how can i teach these keeeeds". I loved that movie when i was younger. I saw the bait of the superhero girl just being a bait for coomers. I honestly wished for the guy to put his life back together before falling for a super girl and i was right on the money with it just being a very elaborate bait. I am curious if the usual suspects see where the super girl character went as woke or cuck bait when its exactly how it would work in the real world.
>>724322463Well reading the thread it is exactly what i was expecting from mind fried people. >>724313285The critical role involvement is apparent. They found an interesting way of making it random and give stats to characters. I honestly want to see the thing they came up with with a bigger stake. Here, the story is first but i want to see where they could take that idea.
>Watch half an hour of cutscenes>Pick two dialogue options that change your one sentence quip which is then shoehorned back into the same result as the other two choices>Watch half an hour more of cutscenes with a QTE that changes nothing>More cutscene>Finally play the game portion>It's just 'we need someone FAST to CATCH this train!'>Pick the fast superhero>Half an hour more cutscenes>End>DIRECTED BY HACKFRAUDIt is a tv show, OP
>>724312673Hard to judge if there will be any meaningful branching at this point, but I do honestly prefer something like Dispatch and the original Tales from the Borderlands to a game that takes itself stone-cold serious every step of the way and pretends that every choice is life or death when it's really not. That worked for the original Walking Dead, but the formula burnt itself out after a while because the linearity became more obvious and forced the more games that Telltale made. But with a game like Tales from the Borderlands it was just as much about choosing what option you thought would be funnier as it was about making actual serious character choices.
>>724313950>>724323159Underrated
>>724323243I like that Erin Yvette and Laura Bailey are yet again the two possible love interests in another Telltale game, except now they have switched characters, kind of.
>>724312673Honestly with the way that the animation industry is being treated right now, making it a game feels a lot more viable to actually profit. With enough interesting branching choices more people will actually want to play it for themselves rather than just watching highlights or following someone reacting to it on youtube
>>724323464Hah good catch. Didn't make that connection
>>724322463>>724322753Adhoc's next project after Dispatch is apparently a literal Critical Role game. (About their Critical Role characters I guess?) I have never watched them but I enjoyed Dispatch eps 1 and 2 and I don't know if I have reason to worry.
>>724323596Laura Bailey is still jealous of Erin Yvette getting the protagonist's affection, though.
>>724323681>a literal Critical Role gameSo, just a new D&D campaign?
>>724323802Blonde Blazer is out of my league. I can be a fellow loser with Invisigal.
>>724323901*Apparently* it will look and play like Dispatch, so yeah, maybe the player will take on the role as the dungeon master.
>>724323997I like how people are actually shocked that BB will not be a love interest. That kind of woman is portrayed perfectly in the game.
>>724324368I'll just be pleasantly surprised if she's not the twist villain with not-Omniman
>>724324368Leaks indicate she breaks up with super anutist and is the second LI.Although, tragically, she’s not blonde
>>724324878That would be a copout honestly.
I had a good time watching both episodes on youtube, looking forward to the next episodes.
>>724322021I still think it's funny how the sequel was Borderlands 3 and they couldn't even pay Troy Baker to reprise the role
>>724320516>barely important in the borderlands universeyeah because gearbox decided to be retarded
>>724312673>send flamfag to fix the fire he started >he doesn'tnext time he is losing more than just a thot
>You and x% of people fist bumped some guy>You and x% of people changed their undies>You and x% of people put a gun in your mouthWho cares? None of this shit ever mattered. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
>>724325120Well, probably because 2k/Gearbox didn't make Tales from the Borderlands and they didn't actually want to do anything with it but because it became a well-received little game in the "Borderlands universe" they felt obligated to "be nice" and throw it a small bone. They also paid some random Chinese(?) studio to basically re-release it on Steam with almost no sign of Telltale left on it. The Steam page still says Telltale made it, but the credits in-game is different and the Telltale staff are bumped to last.Later Gearbox tried to make their own Tales from the Borderlands game, but we all know how that went.
>>724326243We love self-validation around here.
>>724312673no armsno legsbig features
>>724312673>Still arguing about Telltale style games being real games in 2025
>>724312673Theoretically choices matter, which is something a TV show can't do. Theoretically.
>>724326606Isn't it great?
>>724312673It's probably easier to make a game than an animated show no?
Do any of the choices actually matter in the first 2 episodes? Seems like everything you do leads you to the same path so im assuming it will be brought back up later on. I just wanted the Mexican girl to like me...
>>724326606Young people are too busy scrolling ticktocks and us slightly older and slightly less retarded people are stuck doing the same things we did as teenagers like 15 years ago because everything new is shit. It's great to be honest
>>724326719I don't think so. If they had just made a tv show they wouldn't have to animate extra scenes depending on your choices, the biggest one so far being whether Flambae is losing his eyebrows or his teeth.
>>724326823We'll let you know when the later episodes come out.
>>724313950What about the GoT one? Never got to play it
>>724326823Choose between burning Flambae's eyebrows or knocking his front tooth out.>>724327162Misery porn the game. It's just boring.
>>724327162I'll never forget playing the first episode and getting to the conclusion with Ramsay. He kills you no matter what, but changes his retarded reason depending on what you pick. You can seriously go for the '...' option for every choice and he'll kill you because "You're a smart lord, I don't want a smart lord. Too much trouble."
>>724327162>GoTI feel like I was pretty excited for that one, but its two major issues were that in trying to emulate the show the episodes were spread thin among multiple characters, and a lot of that time is dedicated to HBO character cameos for the sake of marketable fanservice.Didn't help that they were characters you knew you couldn't kill, so you just have to sit there and put up with Ramsey Snow murdering and torturing major characters because you can't canonically touch him.
>>724326823I played through twice and picked different options and failed/succeeded every dispatch. Nothing really changes. The only real difference I noticed was Flambae either misses a tooth or his eyebrows. Even if you totally fuck up the dispatch, you still get praised at the end, which was the weirdest part.
>>724327162Might have worked if they focused on a smaller story in the ASOIAF setting, like Dunk and Egg. But it was banking on the TV show's popularity so the cast were a bunch of Stark lookalikes and the story ends on a never-to-be-resolved tragic cliffhanger.
