I still can't believe Sonic fans tried to psyop themselves into liking this, and it actually somehow worked. Son
>>724312861Better than any Sony exclusive I played since Jak 2
I only like the Cyberspace stages from Final Horizon.
I liked the experience outside of the Cyberspace levels more than in them.
They couldn't even commit to the open zones being fully 3D because Chaos Island is like 70% forced 2.5D sections.Honestly the game doesn't even feel finished. Like they released an alpha of a game then called it a day.The kicker? it's still better than most 3D Sonic games.
>>724314213>Honestly the game doesn't even feel finished. Like they released an alpha of a game then called it a day.I actually kind of agree but the fact they made something that is competent enough to be worth playing through is a marked improvement over the shitfest that is Forces. It's not perfect but it also makes me want more, which is all I can ask for. Shadow Generations is a game with a tighter focus so they took what worked and refined it.
>>724312861I mean to be fair it was a better game compared to Forces.Doesn't mean it's good.
Game's honestly better than Sonic Generations. I say that without irony.Sonic Generations is a flash in the pan and "fine" but nothing memorable.
>>724312861I like it actually.Buuuuuuuuuuut the open zones can be deadfully boring after spending enough time in them...The cyberspace levels and bosses are all super cool though.
>>724312861It's the best product that Sonic Team has ever put out. It IS very good and I enjoyed my time with it. The concept could be worked on but the foundation is solid.
>tfw I say I like a game but if I were grilled about why I'd falter and give a bunch of non-reasons, proving OP correct
>>724314861Some people just aren't very good with their words.
It's functional, that goes really far in being a good Sonic game. It's not even that the "foundation is solid" >>724314772 it's just impossible for it to be truly tereible. Like it's built off of 10 year old games, it can only be but so bad.>>724314374Idk about "worth playing" this game left no impression on me at all.
>>724312861I don't even know what to think about this gamethe only game I played after Shadow was Lost World and that game was hot fucking garbage but still the usual hold forward sonic fareI'm conflicted because this game actually had a bunch of actual platforming and skill challenges in it. I get from a game design perspective that's better but I honestly think Sonic works better being a completely shitty experience with 3 good levels that play themselves like SA2 is.
>>724312861Praised this game high right after I beat it, but soured on it somewhat as I had more time to reflect.I liked cyberspace and the spectacle boss fights, but was underwhelmed by a lot of the open zone's content and wish cyberspace had more visual themes. Ian's writing has its own problems but it's preferable to what P&G were putting out.Hope to see more condensed and interesting open zones in the future, taking notes from field areas in Shadow Gens, Unleashed, 06 and Adventure.
I had enough enjoyment out of it from the sandbox and boss fight spectacle. But not really a game to replay though and Sonic's controls in the Cyberspace stages played like ass for some reason compared to his controls in the open areas.
The overworld is jank trash but it has my favourite "action stages" of any 3D sonic. It's such a fucking waste, too, because there are so few of them to make room for all the garbage in the overworld and the combat. The boss fights were cool spectacles though, I will admit they were the best super sonic specific gameplay any 3D sonic has ever had, easily. All in all, I'm split on it.
