I learned not too long ago that playing the game overclocked does eliminate the slowdown, but it also results in the CPU being significantly harder than without the overclock. I can clear the hidden hard difficulty just fine without it, but can barely get past Seren with it.

A lot of the people that made the games great either left ages ago like the character designer, or are flat out dead in Yokoi's case.It's also kind of hard to think about how to build upon the gameplay itself without being needlessly gimmicky, and not just releasing a game for the sake of worldbuilding. Panel Attack is about as refined as it gets.

General advice is to think a few moves ahead so you can do "skill chains"(aka moving during drop frames as opposed to sitting back and letting it play out), and that 4+ matches are actually pretty useful as they produce garbage that's harder to hit.What it will not teach you though is that having a stack at the top all the time is a lot more important than looking for chains, you can win by endurance way more consistently than aggression since the latter requires more luck.
