I heard good shit about it but why is it dead ?
>>

Is it on Steam yet?
>>
>>724321260
yeah
>>

This is good news. Maybe I can get it this time.
>>
The plaeybase were split up too much from joining time
>Xbox and Playstation only first
>Then later arcade machines in Japan (I'm not sure if that size wait is standard)
>Then stadia
>Then switch
>Then steam
>Then mobile
No crossplay with steam for those of us stupid enough to buy on epic too
>>

It was the last fighter released before the pandemic, when you could still get away with mid networking because people games played offline.
It came out on steam later and got rollback (after they tried a bunch of wacky shit like putting it on stadia and epic) but with fighting games you only get one shot at making a first impression.

The franchise was sadly never super popular and this entry in particular went through like a half dozen different versions of "platform exclusivity", all while having bad netcode and no crossplay.
In theory it has good working rollback netcode now but unless a game becomes free nobody ever goes back to overlooked or less-popular fighting games, they get their one release window shot at a playerbase and that's it.

I don't hear anyone shit-talking it, so it must ok.

But these guys are dumb, staggered release, no crossplay, shit netcode at start? stuff like that.
>>

That game was an Epic exclusive for a year or something, by the time it went multiplat no one cared, and they made it even worse by not having cross-play nor the popular type of rollback that every serious fighting game had been implementing.

Its not good, they made sweeping changes to the game not because it was needed, but because it was dead and they wanted attention. So it just kept becoming more and more of a kusoge, unfortunately. Never pay for a game made by in-house SNK devs

Because is not a Capcom game or a huge global IP like DBZ.
>>
5 Special is free to emulate to download the gog version, you know

It was very fun, but the netcode was pretty ass even for its time from what I recall at least at the original launch. I had trouble finding matches pretty quickly any time that wasn't a Friday night at primetime before all the DLC characters were out

Then there's the absolutely stupid fucking idea they had with the PC release saying roughly in an interview at the time
>We won't take Epic's PC exclusivity offer valued at ~200k games sold, since we're confident enough it'll sell more than that!
>Immediately signs a fucking STADIA exclusivity deal, killing the game on the platform
>Crawls back to Epic a year later
>Two years after release, crawls to Steam
SNK always find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
