Anytime you see someone not getting New Vegas, these are the plebs that don't care about the lore, don't read terminals, don't even care about reading the dialogues and they're just skipping stuff as quickly as possible. These are also the plebs that gets distracted often, straying off the path, from finishing one quest, busy chasing dragons or checking out some new POIs out in the distance, and ends up ammasing a bunch of neverending quests they never bothered to complete. The surrounding part, the bigger, open world areas are where the good stuff's are at, like the hidden Vaults and the social experiments, Little Lamplight, Oasis etc. DC ruins is ass.

So naturally you go to Novac after this, through the highway and gets ambushed by the Khans. When you get to Novac you learn more about more things, NCR, Legion, Khans etc. Now the game truly opens up. You've been introduced to the key players, learn about the politics, and have gathered more info about your Courier shit, have 1-2 companions, some levels and some good starting gears. When you reach Novac, naturally, is when the game truly opens up.

There's boundaries and securities around most establishments etc. You kinda need some sort of background or some association with the said establishment to be able to enter or pass through etc.If there's no boundaries, how many times in such RPGs you mistakenly wiped out a place only to realize there's like some important lore or quest further ahead in the game progression, but they're completely closed and missed now that you've severed the questline etc. Sometimes there's even some complex branching of options and events, leading to different ending possibilites, that gets severed just like that.

It's like Dark Souls. You could just stumble into Sloan right off Goodsprings. Even the guy tried to block you from passing, saying the road ahead is festered by Deathclaws from their nearby Quarry. Or going North straight off Goodsprings, with all the Danger signs and Cazadors surprise! ahead.It's like getting to Firelink Shrine and immediately headed to the graveyards and Catacombs. You just can't without Heavy/Strike weapon, preferably Blessed. It's a rule of thumb, if it's too hard, maybe it's the game hinting you shouldn't be here yet for now. Turn around and go somewhere else first.
