women write stories that have almost zero conflict. there is almost never a meaningful plot and if there is a plot it's just an excuse to get the two characters together. often the big climactic battle or resolution of the plot isn't even shown 'on screen' (written out as a scene) because it literally doesn't matter, the story just goes "and then they fought the bad guy and won, now let's get back to what's important!"

so what is important? what are these stories actually about? they are about two people who love each other and are perfect for each other who don't get together for a completely stupid fucking reason, like literally often the reason is just that they are too stupid to realise how perfect they are for each other. there's usually an element of miscommunication as well, i.e. actually they both totally love each other but because one of them said something that the other totally misinterpreted they think they hate each other.

but wait, isn't that conflict? well, it could be, if there was ever any sense of stakes or tension. but there never is. it's like even the potential that things could go wrong is too scary, so the stories are always written in this "don't worry, everything will be fine!" tone of voice that completely undercuts any tension. and that's assuming this boring ass miscommunication trope is even written well, when usually it's just written as if the characters are completely infantilized morons who cannot use their words. it's ironic, because the entire story is just characters talking about their fucking feelings (in a way men never do) and yet the characters still don't understand what's going on with each other. also, there is never any character development. they don't have to change. they just have to *realise* how perfect they always were.

the point is that women don't like stories with conflict and tension. a setting like what you describe, OP, is a great setting for a story, but that's not what women want.

I don't think women find violence interesting or intriguing at all, like the concept of an adrenaline rush during a righteous battle against your sworn enemy is just lost on them. I think this is why stuff like most videogames or Fight Club (the actual fighting club part, not everything else) seem nonsensical to them.

it's so fucking pathetic.

i read this shit because when done well i actually like it, but it is so often done poorly. and when done poorly it really provides a window into the female psyche.

yep pretty much. i'd go further and say women don't even find conflict interesting. like if a guy writes a story about superheroes it's about the team of superheroes fighting the big bad under the leadership of Based Man or whatever, whereas if a woman writes it the story is about the process of team-building and developing relationships (not necessarily romantic ones) in the team, and the climactic final fight with the big bad is actually just the denouement after the "actual" story of the team getting together has been told.

women are also far more likely to write 'group' stories with no clear single protagonist where it takes the whole team working together and compensating for each other's weaknesses whereas male stories are often about one guy's journey/struggle to rise to the occasion (and often to lead).

i find good 'female' stories more interesting because i am interested in people, but when they are written as female escapism it's really a window into what women 'want', which is a really pathetic and cloistered world. and like male stories can often be embarrassing power fantasies too, but at least there the fantasy is about being a badass and doing things and saving the world and being a hero. but the female equivalent is epitomized in the 'soul bond' trope - female escapism based around relationships that the man literally cannot leave no matter how much the woman fucks up or how worthless she is.

EQ was ahead of its time with the factions, alignments, religion and races. I think the reason single player games don't do it is because they want to cheap out and have all players go through the same story/content.
