Some (but not all) of the franchises and vidya concepts that would've made me really excited haven't really been a thing for more than a decade (I'd really be interested in a new game that plays out like Prototype or did Empire Earth's gimmick) and a significant number of ambitious releases turn out to be seriously flawed in some form. If I upgrade my rig I don't expect to play lots of new games that I couldn't before, I'd probably spend more time replaying the older games I already enjoy but at higher framerates.
