Now that is clear that MHS is Capcom "main JRPG series" can we talk about pic related and how it killed Breath Of Fire? do you think the game was truly bad or a victim of circumstances? It would have done better if it was presented as a spin off?
>>
>>724344949
I've never played any Breath of Fire game because I assumed they were the most generic JRPGs ever and people only talk about 4 for the graphics
>>
>>724345083
You're correct.
1 and 2 had some cool ideas, 3 was competent and 4 was really good, but they were very stock RPGs.
Dragon Quarter kicks ass, but it's mass market unfriendly.
>>
Dragon Quarter is my favorite Breath of Fire game. I liked that it had a clear goal. Ascend to the surface to save Nina, or die if your dragon timer runs out. It has the neat detail of telling you how far from the surface you are.

>people only talk about 4 for the graphics
Bullshit, the thing people talk the most about 4 is how there was a LITERAL nuked made from a girl and how this fact broke a dragon guy into complete insanity.
>>
Dragon Quarter is half the reason we got Dead Rising; mechanically DR1 is basically just BoFDQ's hard time limit and obfuscation of mechanics with Shadow of Rome's combat system stapled to it. A lot of the core BoF alumni are still at Capcom too; two of the lead devs of the PS1 entries worked on Street Fighter 6's single player ARPG mode which is why a majority of the post-game superbosses are BoF characters (with Fou-Lou as the game's biggest challenge).

The "you need new game plus to continue the plot" was interesting in concept but was BADLY implemented, basically you needed to get constant game overs to advance and this made people mad. The one example where this was well implemented I know is Bravely Second (although the game is shit).
>>
>>724344949
Fuck this game, Capcom is so ashamed by it (and that mobile game) that they don't want to even release a collection of the games.
>>

>Now that is clear that MHS is Capcom "main JRPG series"
That's fucking depressing.
I like Monhun. I love RPGs.
And I have TRIED so hard to get into these games. But the RPS combat is just so, so difficult to digest. I can never make it through a full game.
And yes I got filtered two thirds through Fate/Extra too.

Could Capcom please make turnbased RPGs that aren't RPS?

Anon, MHS stands for "Monster Hunter Stories", is a spin off of MH that is LITERALLY "Pokemon Monster Hunter" and has turn based combat.
>>
>>724344949
I think it's the best game in the series. It killed BoF the same way Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams killed Onimusha.
>>

>Anon, MHS stands for "Monster Hunter Stories"
I know.
>and has turn based combat
I know.

But do you know what that turnbased combat is like? It's Rock Paper Scissors combat. And I desperately wish it wasn't.

Most people are plebs. They couldn't handle this game with the respect it deserved.
>Oooo, it's too hard
>it hurt me feewings
Pussies. All of you

No the "rock, paper, scissors" complain again, is a meme at this point. If you think about it, every single JRPG is techinically a "rock, paper, scissors" experience, pokemon with the types, persona and MST with the weakness exploit, even fire emblem with the weapon and magic triangles. Only MHS gets memed over the RPS thing because it makes it extremely easy to see with the "power, speed and techinical" thing.

I guess that's why mmos and online took off they way they did

You really didn't read my post at all did you? Not only was it clear that I was aware what MHS was. I also mentioned F/E and levied the same complaints towards it for doing the same thing.
Thankfully the F/E remake goes the way of Slay the Spire instead of RPS. A huge improvement hopefully.
>>
>>724344949
This game is massicely underrated BUT it probably shouldn't have been presented as the 5th entry into the series
>>
>>724348734
Capcom tried to correct that by making an actual BoF5...as a fucking gacha mobile game.
>>
>>724344949
I've only played the second one but HATED MHS' combat. More than anyhting I just despreately wish we could have a generic normal attack instead of having to this stupid ass rock paper scissors system

CAPCOM, in the entirety of their existence as game dev company, have not made a single genuinely great JRPG. Decent at best, but nothing truly incredible.
>>
>>724348373
Having type advantage is not the same as having to do a literal RPS guessing minigame you retard
>>
>>724349073
Doesn't BN and SF count as "JRPGs"?
>>
>>724344949
Under the disguise of a fresh take on the genre DQ isn't really that good, skills are unbalanced and not very varied (Lin's shotgun), and enemies aren't really interesting too outside of the chessboard gimmick fight
It pulled off the forbidden move gimmick very well though, people in
>>724327195
would love it
>>
>>724345083
I have played the first 3 and yeah, they are incredibly generic and not even worth playing.
