The Wired-Xbox 360 controller I've been using since 2009 is starting to wear itself out, button inputs are beginning to not register and cleaning the internals didn't help any. Ideally I'd like to be able to replace it (since fixing it feels unlikely) since I use it for both 360 and PC gaming.

I'm aware there's a lot of fake wired 360 controllers out there now, the biggest tell is usually a blank silver button in the center rather than an Xbox logo. Are these at least usable, is it even POSSIBLE to find a genuine wired 360 controller today?

my experience with Hyperkin is that they aren't known for their quality.

If it's officially licensed by Microsoft, how bad can it be?

i'd say most used 360 controllers are real unless it's blatant third party controllers with mafkatz logos. if not sure then justt buy whole 360 with controller. it's probably like 15 dollars

Get a chink controller. They're good now. Like better than any OEM controller. They have better and more durable joysticks. Gulikit's a good one to look at.

Licensed mostly means that they paid for the sticker that says it's officially licensed

My wireless 360 controller is on its last limb. Right bumper occasionally shits out for no reason and it only vibrates right after replacing the batteries. I'm personally thinking about getting a Vader 4 pro

The next best thing (in fact these are better) is the Hori Switch Pro controller. They have the exact same button layout and are wired, except the d-pad is actually really really good.
I got mine on amazon for cheap, i'm actually gonna get a couple more and keep them as backups. I use em for emulation.

I have two PS4 controllers. Both have connection issues with the same wire, constantly disconnecting or not being recognized by my PC.

Do the controllers just suck or is it the wire?

Mine always did the same thing, it's why I stuck with my Xbox 360 wired controller for PC gaming.

>>724348328
The Xbox repros they make are legitimately decent, but I also find they're kind of a hard reality check for the original controllers in general make and feel too. Like the 360's d-pad was legendarily dogshit, Xenon's d-pad is still dogshit but it's better than the original.

PS5 controller is almost perfect. My only issue is that the start and select buttons suck. I wish they just didn't do the touchpad that I guarantee no one has ever intentionally used and then they had proper start and select buttons in the center like the ps3 controller.
>>
>>724346909
>cleaning the internals didn't help any
are you sure you cleaned it properly? I just thoroughly cleaned my 16 yo 360 controller and the buttons work as new. had to replace the analogs, though (holy shit, the original ones were a bitch to desolder), those were worn beyond any kind of repair. got some hall effect ones.
>is it even POSSIBLE to find a genuine wired 360 controller today?
second hand only
>>
>>724356786
>are you sure you cleaned it properly?

I used isopropyl alcohol to clean gunk from the circuitboard and replaced the thumbsticks (not the mechanisms, don't have the engineering know-how for that).

Maybe the pads inside are misalligned, I had to constantly take it apart and close it up again to make sure everything was working right. It's not the easiest thing to reassemble.
>>
>>724356912
>I used isopropyl alcohol to clean gunk from the circuitboard
that's not enough. you should look for a tutorial on youtube, I'm sure there's plenty, and clean the entire front case + buttons in some warm soapy water with a toothbrush or something. the pads should be the easiest thing to align. you should clean those, too.
>>
>>724356719
On PC the touchpad is much nicer than the right stick for camera movement, and you can bind eight additional inputs to up/down/left/right swipe, and left/right/top/2-finger click. Even if a game itself has no use for all that, it's useful for stuff like screenshots, OBS hotkeys, alt tab, or simply having a functioning mouse in your controller.
I have no idea what purpose it's supposed to serve on the actual console.
>>
>>724350537
It's actually the port. They fail after a few years because MicroUSB sucks as a standard. Grab the USB-C replacement, just check what your board is via the tester or opening it up before buying one.
https://lectronz.com/products/ps4-controller-usb-c
https://www.tindie.com/products/mariusheier/usb-c-for-ps4-controller/
https://ps4check.mariusheier.com/

There's ports on Amazon but I don't know how reliable they are, but I know this guy's are because I bought two of them. Keep in mind you need some sort of file though. An engraver, a file, some automated grinder, just something that can widen the hole.
>>
Gonna be pretty hard, bro. I had one too, but it broke recently.

Instead I got the official adapter (it was still possible to get used here in Japan) and three wireless controllers. Those were easilz]y available here.
>>
>>724348262
That's a series X controller, not a 360 controller. It won't work on the 360 as far as I know.
>>
>>724355485
I remember hearing about those controllers, apparently the d-pad feels like what it is, a workaround for a dogshit d-pad.
>>
>>724354776
>A button broken by design
>extreme convex face buttons suck
>bumpers hurt your fingers after a short gaming session
>bumpers also use a chintzy mechanism for hitting the bumper button so they break all the time (on my 3rd set in 3 years on my PC controller)
>playing with a USBC cable hooked up will cause the board that handles USB to break from its solder
>fairly heavy when loaded with two AAs
It's not a particularly good controller especially after the price hikes
>>
>>724348469
A lot of sellers on ebay sell chinesium clones as used
>>
The fake Dualshock 3s are absolute ass, so I'd assume the same for X360 controllers.
>>
>>724348618
Not OP, but I can't stand them due to ergonomics. They also don't work with the 360.
>>
>>724355485
its the same
>>
>>724348328
I picked up their Duke reproduction a few years ago and it feels exactly as the original did
>>
>>724348618
They're worse ergonomically, button-wise, and stick-wise. The only positives are the d-pad is the best out of the bunch even if it's louder than the loudest mechanical keyboard, the texturing on the back of the controller was a great idea and makes it feel secure, and LT/RT are way better.
>Face buttons all require far more travel to register which means you can press ABXY like 70% of the way and still not count as a press meaning it feels like it's constantly fighting you.
>Bumpers feel worse from their shape compared to the original and again have some more travel than the 360 though it's way less than the face buttons.
>Guide button is flush with the controller instead of jutting out which makes actually using the Guide menu suck on an Xbone and Series which is really bad on the Xbone because it's the only way you can take screenshots on that system.
>It's even worse on PC because the Game Bar is tied to it and if you want to pull that up you run into the same issue on top of Microsoft's PC jank opening it up smoothly.
>Also has a travel distance of like 80% before it even registers the press.
>Sticks are smaller and have a ribbed texture on them so they feel like ass unlike the DS4, DualSense, and original 360 controllers.
>Sticks also in general feel worse to hold in a direction for long periods of time which wasn't that big of a deal on the 360 controller.
>Controller is smaller than the 360 controller and feels cramped as hell because of it.
>>
>>724358761
Have you considered picrel? I know it's a PS4 clone and not 360, but it's one of the better 3rd party controllers I've ever used.
>>
>>724348448
Very bad. Being offically licensed only means that they paid some money for Xbox logo.
>>
>>724348618
They have too lose sticks for my taste.
>>
>>724359795
I already use the DualSense for all my PC needs, I'm just forced into the Series controller when I play on my SeX and was forced to use the Xbone controller on my Xbone X. I'm planning on getting the G7 Pro Wireless so that I have a wireless option for my SeX which I know is even slightly smaller than a Series controller but it's like the only wireless controller that works on the Series outside of the Rare 40th Anniversary Controller which is apparently a downgrade compared to the G7 Pro Wireless.
>>
>>724356383
Yeah, it's certainly not a Saturn pad, but there's really nothing wrong with it.
>>
>>724356719
The dpad on the dualshock 5 stinks, it's very very mushy to press and somehow manages to feel stiff at the same time.
>>
>>724346909
Mine's also finally wearing out and I'm probably going to buy some cheap $20 garbage and hope for the best
>>
>>724356719
On PC I just map the Select and Start buttons to pressing the left and right of the touchpad respectively and I found that that works fine.
>>
>>724348262

>>
>>724350939
>Perfect buttons
>Perfect sticks, new ones have already moved on to TMR
>Mostly perfect Dpad, lacking the diag on the faceplate
>Only issue is the name
Because of that, 50% of this board will never buy this controller out of shame.
>>
>>724356307
It's good though. I can literally play anything on it with no issue. Genuinely better than 8bit doo-doo Dpads.

I don't know if the Switch 2 Pro is good, some people say it is
Bluetooth and wired/USB are more or less the same these days, in some cases like the DS4 Bluetooth is even better because Sony seriously only wanted you to charge your controller and then play
And how the fuck people still has working 360 controllers? A friend broke like ten of them during 360 life's span
>>

>>
>>724363131

>>

>>
>>724356719
>I wish they just didn't do the touchpad that I guarantee no one has ever intentionally used
The touchpad is something every controller should adopt like gyro and it's stupid it hasn't become a standard. It's a minimum of 14 different inputs and games like Days Gone, Ghost of Sushi, Killzone Shadow Fall, Gravity Rush, and Let It Die show how it can be used properly. Don't blame third-parties not adopting it because Microsoft and Nintendo exist for it not being used to its full potential, blame them for not adopting it.
> then they had proper start and select buttons in the center like the ps3 controller.
Nah, Share and Start are in perfectly fine locations and they even made them stick out to make it easier to hit compared to the DS4 which was flush. Do you have a problem with + and - on the Switch if this is your issue?

Brainlet here: what's the material the stick's rubber is made? I fucking loved the 360 ones but the degrade so fast, more importantly; those 4 bump on the sticks are heavenly, I really would love some more for replacements.

>>724356307
I have 2 360 controllers one, brand new, sucked and the other somehow despite being used actually works like it should. Weird thing in my experience, still it's low tier due the hard finish and being high on the controller board; that's never good. My doubts are about the accuracy rates; so far I'm 50-50 but I feel I lucked out with the second.
>>
>>724346909

>A friend broke like ten of them during 360 life's span

>>724363631
360 controllers have abysmal standards for physical build consistency relative to their operational tolerances so on any given controller the top shell can be misaligned from the internals enough that the joysticks and d-pad can't travel all the way. That's why one of the ghetto fixes for the shit ass d-pad was to shave down the area around it.
