The flip is real and the concept filtered the everyone, including the devs. You the player have a constant 1st person view of Simon and you might ask if the coinflip doesn't exist how is it real? Well you're replaying the memories of the Simon who got stuck in the cuck chair, you've won every flip before that because in your memories they did happen and when it happens your last point of reference is the cuck chair as transfer takes place. It's all well and good until there's a break in the ending and good/bad outcomes are portrayed in the wrong order. The narrative must end at the transfer but here it doesn't so you lost the toss, you're not remembering the past. This is also the point where devs fucked up, it doesn't make sense for them to show the good outcome after the bad one because it's literally not how this shit works, it shouldn't be possible so without telling us the narrators point of view changes without devs telling us it does. Why does it change? Because you can see from Catherines response that devs missed the whole fucking point It's so basic but it still filtered the audience, the writers, everyone
