The coming of age trope also hits a lot harder without losing the whimsical aspect of childhood when you're dealing with a character as young as that.

Back then, you still had a lot of media pushing for that kind of protagonist since it was all mostly aimed at a younger demographic. Now that companies want to appeal to a wider audience, the characters are aged up too so you rarely get younger protagonists.Still, would be a lot of fun to see that again.
