FNAF never needed a lore, animatronics being jerks because they could was all it needed to be. The whole thing about corpses being inside the animatronics inside the suits, which was there since the first game, was a bad angle but I guess I am the fool because THE LORE has carried this series past its welcome.

Also it is strange how Cawthon did not think Fortnite's money was good enough for him but he was okay with Dead by Daylight.

It started as true crime that people wanted answers to, mutated into sci-fi and inter-family drama about the killer with barely any connection to the original murders. The series really ended in 2018 and died in 2021 and has been running on shitposts, nostalgia and prayers since then.
I think everyone has realized how bullshit the series always was but since so much time has already been invested people have nowhere else to go. That's why the community now is constantly ripping itself apart over the "pure" and "original" version of a story that was made up along the way.
