NOOOOOOO I FORGOT TO TURN ON ARACNOPHOBIA MODE AIEEEEEEEEE. WHERES MY ANTI AXIETY MEDA
>>
>>724436970
Why are spiders so sexy?
>>
This but unironically
>>
>scared of something
>chooses to go out and seek media that potentially has thing you're said scared of
>demand to turn it off because you should experience thing without being scared
Thats like buying the red badge at the local haunted house even to tell people you dont want to be scared DESPITE going to a haunted house event.
>>
I'm afraid of heights, even looking over long drops in video games makes my feet tingle, but you don't see me demanding developers add a toggle for an opaque fog layer beneath every cliff.
>>
>>724437489
Like any mental illness in the age of social media, many (most?) of the people who say they suffer from arachnophobia are just completely full of shit attention seekers. Or they're just the asshole kid asking for something they don't particularly want just to see if they can get the adult to do it.

>>

I refuse to believe "arachnophobia" is an actual real thing. Every person is repulsed by spiders, it's literally in our nature. Same reason why we're repulsed by snakes and other disgusting creatures. They have the potential to be venomous.
>>
i dont have a phobi but i have dingleberries and they do make playing skyrim uncomfortable sometimes
>>

Scared of spiders? That means you secretly want to fuck one.

I hope people complain about these things because their lives are super easy otherwise. The alternative is far sadder.
>>
>>724438126
I can hold a dead spider in my hand just fine but with a couple chills, my aracnophobic friend is terrified of spiders to the point he can't stand a picture of them
>>
When are we getting homophobia mode?
>>
>>724438438
You'd honestly probably make a lot of virtue signal bux if you grifted this idea onto some half assed asset flip game.
>>
>>724437489
I use to go to friends birthday parties as a child and ask for special sandwich, pb&j, instead of what other children were eating because my parents were assholes and raised me poorly. took me a while to figure it out and still working to sort my shit out.

mirrors edge and minecraft (lol) are the only games that have given me physical reactions to heights.

It took me until my teens to realize that my life wasn't normal either. Or rather, my home life and upbringing. My father was the problem.

But skyrim isn't just a game where you fight spiders. It might be the only thing keeping you from being able to enjoy the other 99% of the game.

Arachnophobia is one of the two most common phobias, roughly tied with fear of heights. And no, it's not just creepy crawlies or potentially venomous animals, it is hyper specific. For instance, the same people aren't necessarily afraid of snakes, stinging insects or other bugs. What is weird about it is for 99% of the people in the world, it can be discounted as an irrational fear, unlike the fear of heights. (falls are more lethal)
One hypothesis for the phobia being so prevalent it is because spiders have a very novel and way of moving that strikes people as alien, they use hydraulic pressure to move their limbs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnid_locomotion
Personally, it is their speed and tendency to "jumpscare" people when discovered, especially the larger ones. If they are a slow species or in a web I could generally care less. I consider myself mildly arachnophobic, and have no fear of snakes or other bugs.
>>
>>724438338
I complain about it because I don't want the people who like those options playing the same games I do. Same reason I complain about accessibility options when I see them in menus. I dont even know what most of them are but I want them gone.
>>
>>724439850
Well that's as irrational as any phobia, so you're not really fighting from high ground on that one.
>>
>>724439605
I'm not scared of spiders and I find them rather cute now, but It would drive me crazy to make skin contact with one
>>
>>724439605
I find the legs, the size, and yeah the movement. When I think of a donut steel monstrous bipedal race I always imagine them moving with that weird skittering that bugs do.

Mammals saunter, snakes and fish slither, birds are pretty, some lizards have the same skittering but they are large and pleasant looking.
>>
>>724436970
I find spiders cute. Cockroaches creep me out tho.
>>
>>724439850
Is a color blind mode acceptable to you or is that also repulsive?
>>
>>724441028
I dont mind those. The devs usually choose poorly contrasting options by default anyway so you're better off toggling one of those on.
>>
>>724439605
I still think it's because spiders hunted our ancestors
>>
>>724436970
I have literally homophobia and devs shove more and more gays in my games

frostbite spiders are the no.1 cause of you being not able to fast travel.
>>
They're not that big a deal, why are people so scared of them? If anything experiencing them in a safe way like videogames should help people overcome their fear.
Now, if you mod them like I have it, so that their poison is deadly and the large ones can paralyze and almost insta kill you, then it might make things worse.

It depends on the intensity of the fear. I had a retard friend who would shit himself in fear every time he saw a spider on screen. I couldn't run LBRS in WoW Classic with him because he'd just close his eyes whenever pic related were on screen and he refused to open them until they were all dead.
Then again he was also a diagnosed schizophrenic so that may have been a factor. But given how most faggots who demand this toggle are probably the same, it's not surprising.

>One hypothesis for the phobia being so prevalent it is because spiders have a very novel and way of moving that strikes people as alien, they use hydraulic pressure to move their limbs.
That's interesting. I've heard something like that before. I was watching a streamer and he said that he has a bit of arachnophobia but most vidya spiders don't trigger it because they move like crabs, not spiders.
>>
>>724444630
I agree, they are rather cute. They have good eyesight and are pretty smart for arthropods.
My phobia is pretty much limited to things like wolf spiders, and only when surprised. Like I find spiders to be fascinating and can inspect or even catch and release them. But if one speeds up a wall or out of my sight, it is a pretty primal fear.
>>724444658
It's also why they curl up if dead or injured, they basically use blood pressure to move. (hemolymph not blood, but still)

Grounded was the game that added an arachnophobia mode that turned the spiders into heckin wholesome bobbles and after that the same kind of entitled 'people' that demand to have every whim catered to started pestering all games with spiders for one as well
>>

looked it up now and looks exactly like one that was hunting on my wall yesterday, I even tried to get it on my hand. It's not deadly, is it?

>>
>>724439850
>this doesn't affect me at all but it upsets me because I have an irrational fear of accessibility options
You are just as bad as the people you complain about, if not worse.
>>
>>724445913
Do your self a favor and don't look up what a recluse bite looks like..
That said a lot of spiders resemble them, medium sized brown spider with skinny legs, they do have a telltale violin marking of their backs. It would probably be a good idea to know one way or the other.

>>
>>724446127
>I don't want the people who like those options playing the same games I do
I explained quite clearly.
I do not want the game's design compromised by these people.
I do not want the game to target these people in their demographics.
I do not want communities run by these people because their disabilities and co-morbid mental issues often leave them bitter and incapable of having discussions.

I’m very scared of spiders irl even tiny ones but spiders in games and movies don’t trigger it at all. I don’t understand how the cartoony spiders in Skyrim are at all scary.
>>
>>724446734
>don't look too bad, I could take it
It's highly variable, could be a small bump, or several inches of skin sloughing off due to necrosis. Also, ass, taint and balls are common bite locations due to toilets.
but yeah, you do you

Are "these people" in the room with us now? It's ok buddy the options can't hurt you
>>
>>724438126
Its not a real thing. Yeah its pretty much like saying you have bulletophobia because you're extra super double afraid of being shot with a gun. Some people just never learned to manage their fears and don't want to learn so they make up phobias as an excuse to be insufferably irrational little shits forever instead of growing up.

Picrel is the scariest spider in the world by way I'm posting it for our arrested development arachnophobia havers to enjoy.
>>
>>724447387
why the long face haha
>>
>>724438126
It's a real thing, but not in video games. Part of what makes spiders scary is not just how they look, but also how they move. In games they always move more like ants, or have breathing movements like non-arthropods, or other tell tale signs that all but shout, "This is not actually a spider."

There needs to be an arachnophilia mode that turns everything, including the rocks and trees and UI elements, into spiders. Also, replace the skybox with a big web and replace the sound effects with the word "spider" spoken in a bunch of silly voices

If you don't seek out games with your phobia you are simply a pussy.
Subnautica is the scariest game I have ever played because I have a fear of big shit in deep, open water. The reaper is absolutely fucking terrifying to me and I have a mini panic attack whenever I have to go into the crash zone to deal with the Aurora. I have never entered the dunes and I never will. I cannot deal with being around these things even in creative mode, I just freeze up and can't look at the screen.
I have 305 hours in Subnautica. I fucking wish my specific phobia was catered to in more games but there is nothing else out there like it. The way I see it, arachnophobes have it damn good.
