lets settle this once and for all. ocarina of time or twilight princess?
>>
>>724448340
Both, with Majora’s Mask in the middle for good measure. Makes a fun fuckin’ trilogy.

Twilight Princess is the worst game in the main series.
>>
Ocarina's the better all-rounder but Twilight's extraordinarily polished in the areas that it clearly puts effort into - dungeons, swordplay, world aesthetic, etc.

OoT
>>
I've actually been torn on this question myself for a few days on which one I would recommend to someone who had never played an LoZ game before.

OoT
>Completely representative of the baseline of the series, and shows off the dynamic of Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, and the Triforce.
>Little vanilla in terms of content and not terribly interesting these days.

TP
>Incredibly unique fantasy story with a really cool world that feels like its actually populated while having some of the best dungeons and characters in the entire series
>If you removed Zelda, Ganondorf, and rename link, the game unironically has a strong argument that it could have been even better than what it is; Wholly unrepresentative of the Zelda series.

TP's the easier starting point but if that's the problem then just shove WW in the idiot's face. I think anyone who actually has hope with vidya should start with ALttP or OoT, and I say this as a TPfag. I love what makes that game unique, but it doesn't really scream "essential first entry"
>>
>>724448340
Is this even a question? TP is worse than OoT in every way that matters. A more interesting question would be OoT vs MM, or WW, but TP is easily worse than any of those
>>
>>724451391
Oh I'm thinking about for recommending for a woman. For a non-woman I hand them Adventure of Link on a physical cart and stop talking to them until they come back a man.

I'm also kinda split between ALttP vs OoT for the 3D elements, but I dunno how well top-down 2D is looked at these days.
>>

MM
Also the first 4 hours of TP makes it unplayable.

TP because manga by granny cougars was great

OoT, TP does shape up once you enter Lakebed though. But the start is a big demerit IMO dess.

I feel like TWW is better played after OoT.

TP is OoT but worse, however a worse version of OoT is still better than most zelda games
>>
>>724448340
TP if you want a perfection of the Zelda formula.
OoT if you want a nostalgia trip.
>>
>>724448340
TP is the third worst 3D Zelda game after SS and TotK. OoT is either the best or second best, depending on your tastes

TP is ugly, art direction sucked, they incorporated semi-realistic elements into the deformed characters. Ugly tint, ugly bloom, looks like brown shit, terrible blur.

The worst offender are the controls, they feel like on-rail games, there's not much freedom in movement, feels like QTEs for the most part. Like the camera lock-on and snapping, feels like there's auto-assists.

There's no sense of wonder or exploration in TP. It just feels video-gamey, like each cells are just video-game stages. Imagine ALTTP, OOT, and MM AND WW having more sense of wonder and exploration despite being older and "less advanced". There's no feeling of happiness, or that melancholic, happy/sad nostalgia inducing feel. It just feels dreadful and bleak, not lore-wise, but you IRL playing it, because it's just fucking terribad.

Replayed them both (OoT 3D and TP HD) last year. TP aged a lot better, outside of some overworld areas looking a bit barren it could easily pass for a modern game. Whereas OoT has a lot of retro jank and the only parts I enjoyed are the dungeons. There are some really quaint design choices, like Navi being excessively annoying and giving a tutorial for opening a fucking door (in the Deku tree dungeon), but then providing 0 hints when actually needed (e.g. how to enter the Jabu-Jabu dungeon, very few people are going to figure it out).

My main beef with TP is it's just too easy, most enemies only hit for 1/4 of a heart and you start stacking them very early on, and potions and fairies are very plentiful, making it almost impossible to die. But the HD version thankfully has a hard mode + an extra hard mode if you have a Ganon amiibo.
>>
>>724448340
It was already settled. TP is okay but OoT is a million times better.
>>
>>724458837
>OoT is a million times better
Only if you have nostalgia for it, but that's what all these threads boil down to, aka which Zelda game you bonded with as a kid.

Same with the Persona threads, the first one you played is the GOAT even if it was objectively dogshit like P3 FES.
>>
>>724448951
This anon sums it up rather well. OoT is the better package overall, but severely dated by today's standards - while TP has incredibly highs, bogged down by horrendously tedious lows.
>>
>>724448889
Nah, that's ToTK and it isn't even close anymore.
>>
>>724448340
replayed both recently like other anons, and whilst I prefered OoT, TP has grown on me a lot since I played it last.
The worst part about it is that every fucking chest is 50-100 rupees, and it makes exploration feel meaningless in a game with 5-piece heart containers.
the dungeons are really enjoyable and wolf link really isn't a big deal (the lightbugs area easy as fuck).
the weakest part of the game are the characters outside of midna, shad's team (still needed more screentime but they were cool), telma and Colin.
very good game, I was too harsh on it
>>
>>724458915
I have no nostalgia for any Zelda game since I never owned any as a kid, and played them all as an adult. Twilight Princess is the best 3D Zelda but 2D Zelda is inherently better anyway.
