I honest to God wasn't even aware FF still had as many fans that really cared about the franchise in the modern era and I legitimately from the bottom of my heart do not understand why people do care. If you grew up with the franchise from when it was supposedly good, then how have you not grown out of the idea that loyalty to a franchise is retarded especially when the people who were behind the original games are basically all long gone and the franchise has clearly passed its' prime. If you're a younger guy who got into the franchise through the more recent games...wtf are you doing?Every franchise has a shelf life. There's no IP that is trully evergreen (b-but nintendo; that's a special case and there's a reason why it seems to not apply), even FROMslop is clearly on it's way out after a solid 10 to 15 years of glory and prime performance. I'm sure Elden Ring was very consciously released as a swan song to the souls era from the studio. Why not just move on and not be bound to a dead franchise that is clearly never going to get it's shine back? I really really loved the Persona games but I can still love 3 as much as I ever have while still acknowledging that it's probably past it's shelf life, or at the very least I have outgrown the target audience. I didn't even finish Metaphor, and I don't care to to be honest. I don't feel any obligation to defend it or even hope ATLUS "fixes" things and gets back in form or watever. It's done. It was great while it lasted. They will probably never again release a JRPG in that general lineage that I will enjoy as much as P3 or even P5, but they don't have to. Other studios will be born, like Sandfall who will come in and bring a new era of really good JRPGs. And one day they too will fall off and a new studio will come in their place and so on.
Why doesn't Squeenix just make another FF like FF10? It's simple, it works.
