>>724464057i might as well ask here. I play a lot of 90s stuff and i use the ps4 controller and 8bitdopro. Frankly they both have subpar dpads for older games, they are too rough and feel more like buttons than a dpad which is fair i guess since most games now just use them as extra buttons. What controller has a good dpad for stuff like snes platformers/action games. I want something reaponsive and comfortable, since most stuff feels way too stiff and causes my hand to get tired.
I have two of them. It's a mediocre controller especially after the price hike

>>724475654A handheld controller sacrifices the ability to turn arm or wrist movements into something productive and you waste 2-4 fingers unproductively on holding it instead of having them ergonomically available to press buttons, gyro at least gives you back the ability to turn those arm and wrist movements into something productive that has much greater fidelity than what you can achieve with an analog thumbstick.Dual analog is honestly much more of a gimmick than gyro is, since it doesn't actually do anything useful for most games that wouldn't be better achieved by coding in a better camera or using a better input device, like a mouse.

Maybe the normal one is okay, but the Elite Pro 2 is the worst piece of shit I've used. It's heavy, have a bunch of shit maybe epixx 1337 pro gamerz need, but I'm never swapping the thumbsticks or whatever. But the real reason it's terrible is that the control stick snapback is utterly insane. Because it's so heavy due to using magnets, letting go of the stick will make you face the opposite direction. This makes playing any 2D game unplayable and other shit only works if you really fuck with the dead zone.

The module had a redesign at some point in the late 2000's and they've all had the same fault ever since. Game companies don't care because they get to sell you a new controller every time it breaks.
>>724499907how are they different? t. never touched a saturn dpad and love the 360 one
>>724501192Saturn pivot is at the top, 360 one is at the bottom. Biggest difference is if you are pressing right, it goes right no matter how you wiggle you finger on the right side of the d-pad. I always found the 360 one likely to go up or down while pressing right.
>>724501538sounds like placebo to me. maybe the saturn dpad is marginally better but the 360 is pretty high up there as far as im concerned
>>724501927If your happy thats all that matters.I frequently saw the comparison between saturn and 360 so I made one fit the other. It just took work because the distance between d-pad and circuit board is much greater on 360 than it is on saturn.

>>724501538>>724502383so you think the saturn dpad is better because the shape of the case? and not the circuit board underneath? (or whatever those switches are called that register your input when you press a direction)
>>724464057Stick drift happens because electricity wears the metal contacts as they rub across them, causing pitting and spattering of metal. Its a guaranteed inevitability. The primary reason it was less common in older controllers was because they had massive deadzones and operated at a higher voltage which made it less susceptible to noise.>>724472131This will not cause stick drift, however this can damage the spring
>>724501538>I always found the 360 one likely to go up or down while pressing right. My Dualsense Edge does this, even though my regular Dualsense doesn't, and it presumably uses the same plastic and rubber. I'd like to mod a Saturn d-pad into both, but between Sony's shell shape being inconvenient for it up top and the inconsistent internal results between models, it feels like it'd be an annoying project.
>>724503020Yes, its on thingiverse, but ill knock up a zip if I can find an anonfiles that works.>>724503086Yes, as another anon mentioned to me a while back, that d-pads need a pivot, the saturn d-pad literally pivots on the controllers outer shell.I wouldnt say it exactly feels like a saturn, because its 3d printed and the d-pad itself is much narrower on the 360.>>724503343I cheated a bit as I had already remixed one of the separate d-pad segments per direction (pic) where the d-pad is 4 different bits of plastic I combined the two, so the saturn d-pad is pushing a much smaller version of the separate d-pad segments.
>>724502515>go play redout, and map pitch to gyro up and down instead of the right stickHell, go play literally any shooter that supports it, or supports simultaneous controller and mouse input on PC with Steam Input. 99% of anti gyro people would realize it's better if they simply gave it a chance.

>>724509191>too much workLiterally just use a screwdriver to open it and swap the battery. It's like a 10 minute job. Besides, you're probably going to want a new controller anyway by the time the battery dies.
>>724465756I like the Xbone better because it's bigger. The Series controller is just a bit smaller and different shaped and it annoys me, plus the plastic in general just feels cheap, like a Chinese clone controller from a 1000 in 1. The first run Xbone controllers feel like the 360 pads in that it's beefy, solid plastic that doesn't creak or warp or get shiny from wear in a week. Except the battery door of course, that shit is flimsier than a GBA's.
>>724509874and you have to get a battery too from somewhere, probably import it from another country. buying used controllers on flea markets isn't always bulletproof
>>724464057I will never not forgive Xbox for making their ABXY layout the standard. PlayStation's circle/cross and Nintendo's A/B were in the correct place.
>>724510258>Xbox made itthe users made it
>>724464057If we're allowing modifications, Dualsense Edge.>Extremerate clicky face buttons and rear/top shell>TMR stick modules.>Throw in a larger battery since I'm already opening the thingThe only issue is the money.>Mfw my dumbass spent about as much as the controller itself new, just to make sure the controller lasts as long as possible while not feeling like shitUnmodded and out the box, the updated 8bitdo Pro 2.
No hall effect joysticks=not a good controller.
>>724510258Didn't Nintendo patent that layout? I thought that's why Sony used symbols instead of letters and Microsoft swapped the buttons around.
>>724510971Microsoft is using Sega's layout.
>>724501012I can't do what you said. It's too difficult plus I have high functioning downs
Switch 2 Pro is my new favorite but still waiting for a way to use it on PC
>>724464057>it just worksIt doesn't though>consider not treating your devices like they're stress toysI'm not the literal mindless animal that buys M$ hardware, so no
>>724511805have you tried the 8bitdo adapter?
>>724511805There is a way but it's super janky.https://handheldlegend.github.io/procon2tool/You go to this site, plug the controller in wired, run the tool, go to Steam, enable SteamInput, and then run the game through Steam and it should recognize it maybe. It sometimes just doesn't work.
>>724479839i recommend the ultimate 2cyou can trust me anon
>>724508269Give some dimensions, retard.>8BitDo Pro 2: 154 mm>Microsoft Xbox One and Series Controller: 153 mm>8BitDo Ultimate and Ultimate 2: 147 mm>8BitDo Ultimate Mini: 135 mm
>>724512406I'll give you his dimensions: morbidly obese.
>>724512406You forgot some.>Nintendo Switch Pro Controller: 152 mm>Sony DualSense dimensions: 160 mmSo the DualSense is biggest, then the 8BitDo Pro 2 and the official Xbox controllers are in another bracket, then the 8BitDo Ultimate is in a third bracket, and finally the tiny Ultimate Mini brings up the rear.Reminder for Amerifats: 1 inch = 25.4 millimeters.
>>724510616Is there a larger battery that both fits it and isn't lying about its capacity? I was looking the other day and didn't find anything convincing.
>>724464057Not just stick drift, the LT and RT triggers will get sticky over time as well
>>724464057I quit gaming so I can finally tell you guys about the razer wolverine ultimate. Yeah I know it's razer but the buttons and triggers all have the perfect springiness and activation force and travel distance. It's just a better Xbox controller
>>724514496Also, it was really expensive five years ago but it's cheap now since it's old and replaced by the new version. Too bad the new version is SHIT since they added bluetooth but changed all the button switches to be way stiffer and stiffer buttons will tire your hands faster. But I guess some people like really clicky buttons instead of responsive buttons
>>724464057The dpad on that was absolute ass. Tried it in Tekken and could just see in training mode how all of my directional inputs were delayed thanks to hard clicky pad. And trying to qcf inputs just wear both of your thumb and the controller down really fast.
>>724507534What changed in the later editions? Build quality?
>>724464176>the d-pad is godlikeDoesn't matter when its placed in the completely wrong position, playing fighting games with it is cramp city
>>724508731I spilled beer in my xbone series controller 3 years ago and im horrified of what plague i'll unleash on this Earth if I try to clean it.
>>724516043Yes. They changed the bumpers to be a single brittle piece instead of 2. The d-pad didn't have as definitive of a click, either.
>>724464057Still uses batteries, MS's official rechargable pack sucks ass, and mine had a bumper break after 2 years of light use.
>>724508731isopropyl alcohol + microfiber cloth or cotton swab
>>724521101>>724508731don't do this it creates mustard gas
>>724508731Wipe it down and eat the crap stuck in the crevices
