I'm an early zoomer who grew up with a PS2 and I think it's pretty messed up that they sold console sets without a memory card. With PS1 it's more understandable because memory was expensive and being able to save was viewed as "premium" feature back then. Early PS1 games like Crash had password systems, so a memory card wasn't always necessary to keep progress. But PS2? It's unusable without a memory card. Even arcade genres like fighting games have unlockable content that needs to be saved.
