why shouldn't I buy a high end laptop
>>
You sound retarded, so go ahead.
>>
gaming laptops are peak retardation that only women and "men" think are acceptable
>>

its alienware
notorious for QA issues even for 4k+ laptops
if you do run into said issue, your "premium" tech support/warranty support is some Indian will ignore your request and will do anything to get you off the phone but help you
this is a real interaction ive had with an alienware laptop btw after 6 months of moderate use:
>calls explaining system idles at 80C-88C
>two different times, an Indian support picks up saying this is expected behavior and nothing wrong is happening
>-4000
never buy an alienware

Yup, it's time to game.

a $3000 laptop has the same gaming performance as a $1000 desktop PC.

but hey, you can carry it about and game for a whole 30 minutes!
>>
>laptop
>can't use it on your lap or in bed
>lasts 1 hour
huh?
>>
>>724495928
what brand doesn't have qa issues?
>>
>>724495614
Are you that on the go that youd get your money's worth? If it would barely ever leave your apartment, its not worth it for what you can get with an equivalent desktop. If youre on the go a lot though, sure its worth it.
>>
>>724496130
what brand trains their tech support Indians to tell you CPU idling at 80-90C is expected behavior on boot? this is across multiple calls across different days
>>
>>724495614
just buy mid tier laptop and then put savings into a mutual fund
>>
How come laptops are soooo ass, but handheld PCs are so much better and much more usable for gaming?
I mean both are pretty damn small but you never hear people complaining about Steam decks overheating or even Legion Gos etc
>>
I have the g14, get around 4-5 hours on battery when using the igpu. Otherwise it has very solid performance with the 4060. Better build quality than most laptops too
>>
>>724495614
because you could buy a high end desktop for less money
>>
>>724495614
Gaymen laptops are unironically only worth it in the midrange segment in the $1000-$1200 price range because you get performance that is close enough to the dekstop counterpart and suited for 1080p or light 3D modelling/editing/gamedev/AI work, when you factor in the built in monitor and keyboard it's not a bad deal at all for an out of the box ready to use machine. Go lower and you get piss poor build quality and laughably bad performance, go high end and it's extremely overpriced for what it is giving you 30% of the performance of the desktop counterpart after TGP tax and thermal throttling.
>>
>>724495614
My asus gayming laptop is ten years old, some are good quality if you're lucky.
>>
>>724495928
I literally have an M16 R2 and have zero fucking issues at all whatsoever.
>>
gaming laptops are a scam
if you need a laptop either go with the cheapest piece of shit you can use or get a macbook since at least you can resell them later for a good price
>but I want to game!
get a console if you can't get a desktop
>but I want to game on the go
get a switch, steam deck or any chinkshit handheld
>>
>>724495614
My overall thought on high-end and gaming laptops is that you shouldn't need to think about getting one.
If it's not the obvious choice, then it's not for you.
>>
Gaming laptops are only worth it if you're traveling a ton and having a powerful machine is necessary.

It's a shit choice if that laptop is stuck in your place most of the time and if you just want a 4chan/Steam machine that you can fuck around in your hotel/AirBnB just buy a cheap/midrange laptop that can also act as a backup in case your real PC needs servicing/replacing.

>Gaming laptops are only worth it if you're traveling a ton and having a powerful machine is necessary.
better off putting a pc or a 360 in a dufflebag
>>
>>724495614
The CPUs in them become outdated very quickly and you get zero upgrade path
>>
>>724495614
You can do everything you need to do for less money and it won't do anything you want it to do while costing more money.
Your money, do what you want. But don't cry when the EBT shekels don't come in this month.
>>

I get the appeal of having something portable, but in my own experience, it just ain't worth it, man.
>expensive as fuck
>overheats in a heartbeat
>fragile
>expensive to repair and replace parts
>much less durable

I used to play vydia using a shitty notebook, but it sucked. Switched to a desktop, it has been working well for years. Just get a normal desktop PC.
>>
>>724495614
Go for it, but look for the good ones that are good value and good inputs.
I wanted to get a laptop with a 4080 gpu but stores were trying to jew people with a $500 markup from msrp. Fuck that.
>>
>>724495614
"high-end laptop" is an oxymoron. same with "gaming" laptops. laptops are meant for people who have to work while traveling, doing simple things like checking/writing emails and punching in data. laptops always overheat, the plastic is easily broken, and membrane keyboards are a pain to use for extended periods.

>high end
Basically diminishing returns, it's not worth it to buy anything past like a 4070 or 5060 for a laptop at the moment.
A laptop 4060 is within like 90% of a desktop 4060, whereas a laptop 5090 is the same performance as a 5070 Even the laptop 5060 performs basically the same as the laptop 4060 compute wise(I'm talking like a less than 1% difference), the only upside is that the 5060 has access to the newer features like MFG. It's a matter of power draw, and for a device that has constrained space you want as little power draw as possible anyway or thermals are going to become a problem. So for a laptop there's not much point going past the XX60 cards unless you find a really good deal or something
>>
>>724495614
>why shouldn't I buy a high end laptop
Nobody gives a fuck what you do with you money. Go ahead, buy one, faggot.
>>
>>724495614
The battery eventually goes really bad, you will be surprised at how fast it can degrade and bloat. Usually happens in the 1 or 2 years range, especially happens when you use for gaming.
>>
>>724495614
I have a macbook 16'' pro m1 max 64gb ram and 1tb SSD and It was the best 2000 bucks i have ever spent in a laptop.
The are games it can easily run at 120 fps. Its a good piece of machinery i can tell you that.
>>
>>724496130
none, even Lenovo has lost it's way, laptops are doomed to be e-waste because of greed.
>>
>14"-15"
>5070 mobile
>non-soldered Gen 5 1TB SSD or more
>non-soldered DDR5 RAM
>has slots for additional SSD storage
>2x 10Gbps ethernet ports
>1080p IPS display, none of that burn-in OLED and miniLED dogshit
>5-7 hour battery life
>3.5mm headphone jack
>Wifi 7+
>full size keyboard with numpad, RGB backlit
>no webcam
>no microphone
