I own a gatling gun for home defense, since that's what the good church intended. Four beasts break into my workshop on the night of the hunt. "YOU ARE NOT WANTED 'ERE!" As I grab my Bone marrow ash and pistol. Blow a pebble sized hole through the first beast, he's parried on the spot. Draw my blunderbuss on the second, miss him entirely because it's quicksilver and nails the patollers dog. I have to resort to the church cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with blood bullets, "AWAY, AWAY!" the quicksilver shreds two ROTTEN BEASTS in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel could be heard in Yahar'Gul. Take out my flamesprayer on the last PLAGUE RIDDEN RAT. He burns to a crisp waiting for the night to end, since beasts are naturally weak to fire damage. Just as the healing church intended.

That's not really that surprising given the level of technology
Though if you really want to get autistic about it, hoonters are powerful because of the way they're attuned to their own world/dream. In bonfire-based Lordran they would run out of resources quickly.

Its a repeated pattern in their world. The Pthumerians, Loran, some unexplored areas mentioned in item descriptions like in Valtr or Yamamuras set. Some idiot or group of idiots gets an entire city, town or country to start using the Old Blood for sustenance or disease curing properties, then they all go insane and turn into beasts or get fucked by old ones.

The Holy Moonlight Sword is heavily implied to be somewhat sentient and channels the abyssal cosmos. The blade's description states
>The Holy Moonlight Sword is synonymous with Ludwig, the Holy Blade, but few have ever set eyes on the great blade, and whatever guidance it has to offer, it seems to be of a very private, elusive sort.
take from that what you will. He was a beast but the sword did break through to him despite it all.

We're talking about bespoke references. Chester could be slotted into Bloodborne, for instance. Yamamura, conceptually, looks like Wolf. Elden Ring takes cues from all previous games, and most notably it takes the idea of a fucked up landscape from Dark Souls 3 (High Wall, Dreg Heap, Ringed City), but nothing specific in Dark Souls 3 teases Elden Ring. Sekiro doesn't for Elden Ring, either.

From what little we know of her, she's kind of a sad forlorn idiot. This is actually a recurring motif in Miyazaki's games, there's always some (seemingly) stronk woman and she's actually a tragic idiot living out a perpetual humiliation ritual. Maria, Tomoe, Malenia. And before them all Ciaran.
>>
>>724517347
Why does this game look exactly like DS3? This shot is basically just the Lothric Castle.
>>
>>724536627
Miyazaki knows women. Any woman, and I mean ANY woman, who is strong, is suffering because they aren't at a man's behest. They are not instinctually meant to lead. That's what men are for.

Dark Souls 3 was supposed to be more of an ash heap with mechanics that made the game more desolate, like making your own bonfires. But it was all scrapped, so we were left with a Dark Souls asset flip mod for Bloodborne.

>She wasn't built to be a hoonter anyway
That was the crux of it. She felt guilty over her part in whatever truly happened at not-Innsmouth and took up helping afflicted people. But like was said, women aren't instinctually meant to lead. She was atoning for what she'd done, but she couldn't handle it anyway and tried to kill herself. Women need good men. Gehrman isn't a good man. Just a useful one.

Kojima did the exact same shit in the end and he had been trying to kill off Metal Gear since MGS2. Except despite all his efforts it kept chugging along. MGS4 had all the same shit including loads of sardonic "fanservice" and shitty answers to shitty questions yet people still gobbled it up and cried out for more.
I think these gestures are more "carving a name on the tombstone of finality" than a sincere thank you. To Japanese auteurs, the mindless players and the hungry publishers become almost antagonists but they can't actually do or say much else because Jap corporate culture

Miyazaki has never publicly expressed disinterest in directing Souls. In fact, Edge Magazine did an interview the week Dark Souls II was announced where Miyazaki said he would have wanted to direct Dark Souls II, but that it was an executive decision to remove him from the director's chair. He is not the same as Kojima. This auteur shit you're talking about has no basis in reality. Siegward is not sardonic fanservice, he's a sendoff. Siegmeyer is a sad story about an aging knight who never found his calling and died. Siegward is a gallant knight who wields a mighty weapon to help you take down a mighty Lord of Cinder. Anor Londo is covered in muck and ice, not as a middle finger to players, but as a diegetic storybeat; Gwyndolin has held on to his father's legacy for so long, and the thesis of Souls is to let things die, so Gwyndolin was punished in one of the worst ways possible. He was eaten alive by people who had enough of his bullshit.

The closest we get to whatever you're talking about is actually an extension of Dark Souls II's theme of humanity ever wanting. Dark Souls 3 doesn't necessarily go further, but it does play with it. Friede and Vilhelm both tell you to fuck off, "curiosity could be your cross" / "thy duty is all." But he balances that with the fact that the corvians are abjectly suffering under Friede's dominion and seducing of Father Ariandel. To not want, to live and let live, is to let the corvians continue to suffer.

He continues to play with the idea in The Ringed City. All Lapp wants to do is get his memory back. Meanwhile, Gael, and presumably the player, want the Dark Soul. Patches gets his memory back, and he chastises the player and all humanity:
>Every age, it seems, is tainted by the greed of men. Rubbish, to one such as I, devoid of all worldly wants! Hmmm, I dunno, maybe it's just the way we are. I'll stick you in my prayers. A fine dark soul, to you
However, he notably becomes a summon for the Church Spear fight.

Cont.

It's been said that Patches is Miyazaki's avatar, and so while he may disdain the idea of ever wanting, he acknowledges that it's simply human nature, and so extends his blade to our aid.

I can go on but I'll cut it short. This all to say, it's not as cut and dry as Kojima not wanting to direct MGS, which Kojima was VERY cut and dry about. From Software is just more nuanced than him, as much as I enjoy the works of Kojima.

Ah yes, rememberries are high art.
Kojima himself has never uttered much dissatisfaction either as tumultuous as his relationship with Konami got, that's how Jap corporate culture is and both he and Miyazaki are class acts in that regard compared to certain big mouth firebrands out there. You have to be insane to take interviews with these guys as the whole truth and nothing but the truth, the entire basis of polite Japanese culture is to never complain about this sort of shit openly and find other plausibly deniable ways of expressing it.
These are big projects though with a lot of staff working on it who have just as much claim to the franchises as the hyped frontmen directors do so yeah, there is a lot of love as well and the art is as always impeccable. But the overarching themes are just too blatant to ignore. No auteur wants to churn sequelshit out forever which is one of the things they actually are open about.

>Ah yes, rememberries are high art.
I didn't say anything about rememberries. Did you read my post at all?
>Kojima himself has never uttered much dissatisfaction either as tumultuous as his relationship with Konami got
I wasn't talking about Kojima and Konami at the end, I'm talking about actual interviews where Kojima says, in plain language, that he did not want to direct more MGS games. You can find these interviews. Miyazaki, by contrast, stated that he did want to direct Dark Souls II. He was known as "Mr. Dark Souls" by his staff in another interview of From Software employees because he was so passionate about directing the first game. He spearheaded the multiplayer system for Demon's Souls much to the disapproval of his superiors. He loves these games. I have no reason to believe your assertions of whatever Japanese culture you're talking about over documented facts. But the thing is, you don't care about discussion, because you can just say
>Well it's Japanese culture to never complain in public
So you don't care what I say. The records are public. Still, I'm going to reply in good faith and then leave this waste of time be.
>But the overarching themes are just too blatant to ignore. No auteur wants to churn sequelshit out forever which is one of the things they actually are open about.
Again, Elden Ring is just Dark Souls 4. That's blatant, black and white. Stop pretending Miyazaki has that kind of integrity. Dark Souls 3 was the end of Dark Souls, not the end of the-kind-of-game-Miyazaki-likes-to-make. It wasn't like Kojima going from MGS to Death Stranding, which showed a LOT of heart and integrity. Didn't you notice that Elden Ring also has an inextinguishable flame, just like Dark Souls' First Flame, or the Profaned Flame? He likes remixing his ideas, like ancient stone dragons, or a race of giants, humanity caught in the middle of everything. He's not who you think he is just because you think you have some line on Japanese culture.

At this point nobody knows what the fuck Fromsoft is doing. Sekiro despite being a success didn't get a DLC, AC6 which also overperformed expectations didn't get the usual AC expansion/subsequel. Now they're doing shit like Nightreign and Duskbloods. And this is with Miyazaki as president. After they made an ungodly amount of money with Elden Ring.
This is the point in From Software history where they could do anything they fucking wanted. Until they announce a real project, we just have these really odd multiplayer-only things.

>>724539784
Fromsoftfag here. The only reason Sekiro exists is because of Activision. From Software went to multiple publishers, including Bamco, and nobody wanted it. Activision took a chance, and so it got made. This next part is speculation: Considering how many publishers they went to, they likely only budgeted x amount of money for Sekiro, and from the outset, agreed on no dlc so that they could focus on Elden Ring. What you'll enjoy knowing, however, is Activision sold the rights to Sekiro to From Software, so From Software completely owns the Sekiro IP. I'd bet decent money they'll make a sequel someday, otherwise there would have been no point in buying it.
>AC6
We know from interviews that AC6 has been in development since at least 2016, and likely had a similar "no dlc" clause like Sekiro. But honestly? That game's story is so perfect I wouldn't want dlc or a sequel.

Miyazaki wanted to end Dark Souls so badly that with his first new IP in 10 years, he just did Dark Souls but bigger with Elden Ring. The guy was king of FromSoft by that point and his choice was to double-down on everything in the Dark Souls series for his next title.
He really likes making these apocalyptic hack and slash games where NPCs all laugh at you and then kill themselves the second you do them a minor favor.
Its his jam. He's talked about wanting to keep making his ideal game until he gets it correct. And that is so far what we've seen him do, iterate on a formula with slight tweaks or expansions of scope with each new version.

Sekiro was clearly not built around the franchise formula.
It could have sustained a DLC, but FromSoft was working on Elden Ring at the same time as it, and didn't want to cannibalize their own workforce, most likely.
AC6 being a decent success was probably expected, but you could also position it as a smaller title that was done to give devs and artists a break from working on medieval fantasy for the last 10 years.

I didnt say it wasn't polished, of course its polished. But its also jumbled and incoherent, and they didnt have the raw manpower to fix it like they did with elden ring. Half of the bosses are in the wrong arenas according to the leak, because Oceiros' area was scrapped so he replaced Gundyr. And Gundyr replaced Yhorm, and Yhorm replaced Wolnir, and Wolnir was put into a cup. Its crazy.
Also, I actually did notice the masks on the irithyll hollow spiders and I thought it was stupid. Its an aristocrats mask, so why are they in the peasant cage? It makes absolutely no sense and i think they were just ashamed that they reused an enemy here. It also isnt that impressive.

Gundyr makes total sense as a starter boss and then a bookender as you move into the endgame.
I don't see why you'd think he was moved or modified at all.

Regarding Yhorm not being able to fit in his own room, none of the Gods we see in Dark Souls could actually fit in Anor Londo's rooms, either.

>Half the bosses are in the wrong areas
True, but keep in mind the infamous leak image is half one anon info dumping what was datamined and half another anon making up a bullshit story.

The beta story beats are relatively unchanged, Old King of the Eclipse and Pontiff Sully have the same exact character and goals.
The main difference is Oceiros was blended with the Angel of Dragons. We know very little of beta Oceiros other than he was clearly supposed as chad as whatever character traits they lent to Gundyr.

Oh, and I guess Wolnir probably had a completely different story given he was Profaned capitol boss/Covenant leader (probably for the mound makers as the data leak revealed the altar for it is a means to block a scrapped passage).

Point is, the bitching about the "Scrambling" isn't as bad as /v/ thinks it is, because /v/ was mislead by a larper. Yes everything about the Serpents in that fanfiction was based on a literal meme image from like 2015.

The Hunters nightmare is a hell for hunters that Mother Kos pulls the blood drunkened into, along with the perpetrators of the massacre of the Hamlet.
Gehrman might be going there whenever he sleeps and becoming the orphan.

The profaned survivors are implied to be deeply cursed and vindictive as evident by the jailor stares depleting your health and their supernatural speed.
There are normal hollows who also use the masks, it was probably a case of the cursed turning on the less cursed.

It's literally a repeat of the Izailith situation. People got fucked up by fire aids and fled upward into a shitty area (DaS its a swamp, DaS III its a prison). It's not like Sulyvahn was paying them to be there, they clearly just kind of took over the prison.

From what I remember, Kos was already dead and her entire concept is based off washed up dead whales that would get worshipped by cults, its possible the parasites were what actually killed her. What got the hunters in doodoo was what they did to the orphan and/or the people of the hamlet but the source of the curse was the orphan itself. I'm not entirely sure if the orphan was corporeal either, Mergo wasn't. And the game stresses the issues Old Ones have with procreation. It's probably not just regular old human-style fucking however.
So the nightmare curse may have been the orphan fulfilling the will of the hamlet people who worshipped Kos though it does seem particularly mad at Gehrman, putting him through the despair of being born an orphan again and again. Though I wonder if the punishment is somewhat self-inflicted. Many of the hunters are suffering from guilt while the actual blood drunks are having the time of their life in there. It may be in the nightmare, you get what you think you deserve and so the ones most plagued by doubt and guilt get it the worst.

Also I think Kos might be a former human since she has a very human face.
>>
>>724543417
Kos was blatantly killed by the armada of whaling boats sunken along the coast.

i can see how that'd be annoying. i just wrote it off as a failure to create another, or previous rom. the connections to annalise are vague as well, but neither of these impact the story enough to bother me. bloodborne is still a story of the church finding gods, using their blood to ascend, and it all goes awry.

i will say that with this new knowledge, as i never knew until i read your post that ebrietas used to be kos, it's quite clear bloodborne was being pulled in multiple directions and they had to rein it in. i read a post the other day that posited bloodborne was a direct sequel or prequel to demon's souls, as it was discovered years ago in the files that there's a "true moon presence" boss just like demon's souls, and that the idea is
>the fog? actually just a dream world
>demons? no, they're aliens
>demon scourge? the beginning stages of the beastly scourge, most likely still in its infancy because there wasn't a dumb priest in boletaria that took a look at the blood of the infected and thought "hmm so what if i injected it into my veins? maybe it'll heal me? these things look very lively after all haha"
>why does true king allant look like a giant squid? because that's how newly born great ones look, they look like aquatic beings because earth itself is probably the dream world of another god, and since dreams are layered, that means everything is just a incredibly large ocean of sorts
>why are there fluted armor knights and zombies healing with grass in the chalice dungeons? because the moon presence built yharnam on top of boletaria
zero evidence, but i sincerely believe it. hence, i think bb was being pulled in too many directions, from soft had a deadline, so things got shifted.

Actually now that I think of it, a lot of innocents got pulled into the curse, and they're not really enjoying it especially in the research hall. Even though infant old ones are beyond human capacity, its believable that they could wield great power but not necessarily the intellect. The Nightmare itself maybe isn't particularly malevolent or sophisticated in meting out karmic retribution, just a dream world everyone in the vicinity got sucked into.

I'd expect them to be the hardest punished were it actually a hell set up to punish hunters. Then you have fields of emaciated skeletal corpses like Ludwig's arena, most writhing eternally, a few who can still speak. Who are those people? I don't think they're hunters. Not to mention he's retarded with so many of his changes. Sure some of it is cool like extended lod's and shadows, but he also forces shadows for everything when the game is clearly designed to have shadows and lighting set up in specific ways a lot of the time for mood and atmosphere (like basically all older games that didn't use raytracing did, and even ray traced games do some pre placed lighting to set up a scene) but he just blanket sets all shadows and lighting a specific way, so the mood and atmsophere is altered away from its intended purpose, as well as many areas just being overly dark for no reason.
His mod also makes meshes flicker in and out of existence all over the place because the game and especially the emulator is not in a state to handle everything he does yet

King of the Eclipse is just what they were calling Lothric at the end of the game after he transformed. There was no Pontiff character in the game period until they split off Lothric's final boss design into a separate character and there's various levels of speculation on if what eventually became the ulcerating tree spirit in ER was the original draft for the Gundyr fight or if it was supposed to pop out of the coffin in the Cathedral of the Deep and be the plan for the Aldrich fight.

that is way too much speculation based on what got removed from the game
What actually happened was that there were 3 planned phases for the Moon Presence fight and ultimately only one made it into the final game. Of the two others the "middle" form has unused assets and the artbook alluded to the winged attacks it was capable of but has never showed up in any remotely playable form in any of the builds of the game out there, while the final form is the one everyone knows about secondhand.
People took the third form in a broken boss rush chalice to mean that there was some grand unused plan for the chalice dungeons in the game's story, but the reality is the devs used the chalice dungeons for drafting and testing a ton of things the way most developers would have dummy maps for loading in enemies, testing enemy AI, etc. including most other unused bosses.

I hate , really hate ER and how unfinished it was.

You misread my post. I admit the transition was weird though. I wasn't saying Ocieros and Suly were the same.

>Lothric also got overhauled
I don't know, a character that was born to be a savior of a kingdom but ended up being a crippled homosexual would obviously be depicted as a healthy god tier ruler by his own kingdom.
No one depicted Baldwin IV's grotesque leper face.

It was clearly going to be a phase 2 of a final form of the Pus of Man. Tree Spirits have the same basic body plan as Pus.

Aldrich probably never even got a model, From Soft has supposedly (this might just be a /v/ meme though) been trying to make a DND inspired slime fight since DeS and scrapping in each time.

Aldrich was clearly the time they would get it right, except they didn't and had to re-conceptualize a way to fight him without him being a formless blob.

Shields are good in DS3 and Elden Ring, but they're not freebies you can add to any build anymore.
People have like 15 Endurance and then try to shield turtle against a Revenant and then complain that shields are useless.
You basically have to invest in them as much as you would any other weapon class. With Endurance replacing or being leveled alongside Strength or Intelligence or whatever.

I know, I specifically did an entire DaS III run starting with the petrified shield and working my way to the Curseward.

It was fine, the only boss that gave me trouble was Champ Gundyr due to his improved stamina damage and surprisingly Aldrich and Soul of Cinder, because the former has a lot of magic attacks that slip past GSs and Soul has juggle slash grab you can't block through completely.

I kinda look at it more in terms of retards getting what they deserve for being retards who let random people online dictate what they do. You're not wrong about /v/, but it's not exactly a secret or hard to figure out, and it's not like it's any better anywhere else when it comes to horribly shit takes.
>>
>>724571247
I've never made a bad purchase off of /v/'s brutal criticisms, but I think at some point a population of faggots that like e-celebs started parroting their bad opinions.

In the souls community This was Matthew Mattosis, who was confirmed the source of "Shields bad in DaS III".

ER is still by FAR the most unfinished souls game to date. It is actually only 60% complete with anything after limgrave having only base mapwork done without any real content. Most of NPCs and their quests got cut, the world changing mechanics got cut, asteroid shit got completely wiped out, anything related to madness got cut (At least a few quests and npcs). The whole underground are was gonna stretch out throughout the whole map etc etc. The story is nonexistant since most of it is literally not present in the game (Like whole godfrey questline). Whatever characters and ideas you see in the final game are just prototypes.
>>
>>724572204
I strong doubt anything involving changing the world map massively beyond what we got with Nokron was ever going to be included.
Fromsoft games avoid doing anything that involves changing the map except for big climax moments.
The Nomadic Merchant quest was cut, but that as far as I see it was the main mostly implemented quest that was axed. There was another with the Mimic Tear, but I don't see any evidence of that one getting any kind of mechanical implementation.
>>
>>724571721
there's also a bit more nuance there because in this case, for example, it's not as simple as:
>anon says shields bad
>shields actually work just fine
>anon is full of shit reeerr

I happen to also think shields are bad in DaS3 and souls games in general, and it's not because they don't work or even because they don't make the game easier, because they do on both accounts, but because they are strictly sub optimal. In that sense they are bad. But me saying "shields bad" and then another faggot saying "shields bad" (but because he actually thinks they don't work properly) both sound the same to a random retard npc who just goes with whatever seems to be the most prominent opinion. That's why I say I tend to have little sympathy for those people. They are not even victims of disinfo, they are just too stupid to even discern what they are reading and have any clue about context.

It doesn't have any obviously unfinished areas, but it also probably had the least complete story.
Enough that Fromsoft had to patch out last minute story rewrites after release twice.
Its clear they focused on getting the map to work and left everything else for later. So you never have a Demon Ruins scenario, at least.

The winter lantern design didnt originally have a dolls body, so it isnt important.
But there is a scrapped enemy that is a doll with a bulbous fleshy head, and our doll is implied to have been made with Marias remains.
So maybe its just an experiment from Mensis, who are just throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks.
The reason why it uses the dolls model specifically is just reusing assets, and it makes them more nightmarish anyways.

There are some good aspects to Nightreign.
Like the Hero System is something I hope that they keep going forward.
Having an actual character with a plot to follow along, is nicer and paradoxically makes it easier to immerse yourself and adds replayability, compared to playing as a total blank slate.
Having a sorcerer archetype, a bruiser archetype, a John Dark Souls archetype, a dexfag archetype, and some weird one, would really cover what most players want out of any Souls game, and you can build out the style and plot attached to those characters to give them a sense of identity that people will latch onto.

Souls backgrounds have never had any more meaning than getting a player slightly closer to some build that they want to put together 20 hours later.
Nightreign giving that character creator choice some meaning was its best aspect.
