Does Valve still deserve their prestigious reputation?
>The EGS proved that there is a better waNot at all.
>>724565224Yes. They’re the only ethical and pro consumer corporation in the industry.
they have liberated me from microsoftso yes
yebeing a private corporation kept them from going sour over the years and valve's incredibly choosy hiring process lets them have a constant in-stream of very talented engineers, on top of the basically infinite money machine of steam giving them the funding to do whatever the hell they wantpeople bellyache they don't really develop games anymore but all their games are either tech demos with more structure like half-life, or continuations of fan mods like team fortress and day of defeat, or were made collaboratively with another studio like left 4 dead, i would argue their most fleshed-out game series in regards to "valve actually made it" is portal but this comes with a huge asterisk that valve's input on collaborative projects like left 4 dead was enormously important and the studio can't do it on their own as was the case with back 4 blood (their publisher meddling was a similarly big part of B4B)
>>724565224No, not really. The competition is just THAT bad.
>>724565224Their reputation comes from becoming a monopoly for creating the first PC online DRM service. It's just sunk cost fallacy at this point. They're not pro consumer or ethical, they're a monopoly that isn't jeopardising their position so that their fat man can get another yacht. You've got people who has spent thousands on content stuck on Steam. They're not mentally capable of understanding that their money is potentially wasted and that it doesn't have to cause a mental crisis.Valve's credentials>create account based DRM for PC gaming>sell loot boxes>have a marketplace for gamblers to use>try to sell mods>introduce a rule giving banks the final say in content
>>724566391they're actively pushing for less control by mainstreaming linux and making it viable even for those who didn't pay them a dimecry about it
>>724566391>They're not pro consumer or ethical,i like the kind of tacit implication that valve being the best service is malicious and an accident and we just need Competition™ to elevate one service or another for godhood, regardless of the free market being a failed concept specifically because competition will stamp you out if you attempt to set up
>>724566536Mainstreaming Linux? You mean the thing that performs better using Steam?>>724566579It's not malicious, it was inevitable but it doesn't make the inevitable shit sandwich taste any better. If Ubisoft introduced account based DRM they'd be just like Valve because their monopoly would have allowed them to act like it.
>>724566797publicly held companies would not be just like valve, they are legally (shareholder laws) and corporately bound to not quietly reign as the near-uncontested ruler of PC games distribution
how does valve have a prestigious reputation? according to whom?
Valve's basically as greedy as any other corporation, but they're not beholden to a million stockholders who all want instant profits now. So Valve doesn't crash everything into the ground and make everyone hate them just so their quarterly report is up 0.5%.
>>724565224They never did.Aside from what >>724566391 said they don't even do anything.Braindead sheep just give credit to daddy GabeN for all the pc developers done and it seems no one even is even aware of Akamai is the one doing the content delivery heavy lifting as a lot of the steam cult arguments is le service, le server costs etc.You could literally give steam to any braindead anon right now and it would run fine because everything is automated. There is no service. Only a middleman rent seeking from everyone.
>>724566971You do realise public entities can become private and that if you had the money for hosting account based DRM and digital downloads you'd have had money to go private?
Post this image whenever you see a steamie spout some bullshit about muh service, muh steam cloud or some other nonsense shill talking point. They will instantly expose themselves.
>>724566797>You mean the thing that performs better using Steam?what the fuck are you sperging out about?wine, winetricks, lutris, heroic etcyou can leech off valve's accomplishments for free
>>724565410costco - $1.5 hotdog, and that chicken mmm gurlamex - personally saved my ass twice. Once a kid threw up on my on a flight and i had to present an hour and 1/2 after landing. Amex got ahold of a tailer with my measurements and got a suit to my hotel, sure i had to pay for stuff but they handled all the logistics and shit.
>>724567405>>724567405Yes being the best option for the consumer means you cant make a profit.Retarded socialists scum.
>>724568909>best option>steamkek, typical steam cuck
>>724568982only retarded brownoids shill piracy instead of quietly apprieciating getting a good deal in the prisoner's dilemma
>>724568802>>724568802The other time i was in Lebanon beirut when the war kicked off, found some south african guy to get me to tripoli and out of country.
> Does Valve still deserve their prestigious reputation?Shills hard at work sewing the seeds of doubt I see. They till and plow hard pan soil. They earn their 30 silver all the same though, so why bother with any extra effort. Ask yourself “do your masters deserve your best shilling services?”
>>724569130That's the part I don't understand. There's already trash like duveno and most of the devs don't implement it. If tards scream and boast about piracy in the open, wouldn't that push devs to use more drm.
>there are posters on this board unironically still in their hail saint gaben phaseY I K E S
>>724571365>there are posters on this board that are upset about a company that's bringing freedom and innovation to pc because they're farming whales
>>724565224All the shit they get, like not "owning games" and now they are "subscriptions", is just because of EU and some other retarded countries with bs laws. They just handled this so that you never noticed any trouble, nothing chanced and today you can play all those games just fine. Blame your politicians and VOTE.
thanks to valve, game ownership doesn't exist on pc and all you can buy is a borrowing license
>>724572402their drm is paper thin and you don't get any punishment for ithow long does it take to crack console drm and what are the consequences?you're going to have drm regardless, be glad it's valve that's controlling it
>>724572402>thanks to valvesee post directly above you >>724572254You shills don't even know what the alternative to Valve would be.What you claim to advocate for is always online DRM with kernel level hardware locked games. Imagine only being able to install a game 3 times, and then you no longer own it? Or changing the GFX card and you no longer own any of your games? Internet goes out, no longer offline mode. This is what other game companies have tried in the past WILL FORCE ONTO YOU if you forsake the GabeN.
Yes./trhead
havent had an issue with them in 16 yearsthey offer frequent sales on a large catalogue of gamestheir UI is easy to use and their (properly filtered) reviews are some of the best firsthand info I get get about games before buying themive been able to refund multiple dogshit games immediately after 90 minutes of playtimethey have consistent uptime and ive rarely had an issue getting good download speedtheir support has generally been helpful and sent me complementary refurbished index controllers free of charge after I reported an issue with one of themI will continue to support then
