Nintendo received a "Rejection" from the Japanese Patent Office on "Palworld"-Related Patent—Prior Art Examples Cited:

>According to the progress information for patent application 2024-031879 available on the Patent Information Platform, a notice of rejection was issued for Nintendo's patent application approximately two weeks ago. This patent application is part of a patent family derived from several important patents related to "monster capture" and other activities, and is also part of the lawsuit against Pocket Pair.
>According to the Patent Office records, citing "ARK: Survival Evolved" as an example, the patent application filed by Nintendo was deemed to be "lacking in inventive step" because it was prior art that had been used in previous games.
>Nintendo's options for the future are to file an amended patent application with revised claims, appeal to the more specialized Intellectual Property High Court, or abandon the patent application altogether.
>Additionally, media outlet Windows Central stated that "this supports the claim that Pal World is not an imitation of Nintendo, but rather is built on a foundation of long-established technology," and that this will leave Nintendo without one of its avenues of attack, working to Pocket Pair's advantage.
>The report also states that while the Patent Office's decision will not directly affect the outcome of the lawsuit over Palworld, it could still have an impact

This is not the "win" you think it is. Palworld better start spending some money on some patents if they hope to survive by the middle of next year.

Software patents are insane. In real life, you have to actually create a new mechanism or invention to get a patent - you could patent some innovative new sealant or whatever that helps build cars that can also go underwater, but you can't patent just "the concept of cars that can go underwater". But then for software, just "code that implements virtual cars going underwater" gets counted as a mechanism in itself. You don't need a new way of writing the code or a new software paradigm, you can just patent writing code that expresses a certain concept entirely.

Is Palworld better than Pokemon ZA?
>>
>>724575819
If you like OWSC, yes absolutely. If you don't like OWSC, maybe maybe not. it's technically better but the gameplay might not be as appealing.

as far as just the combat itself it's funny how laughably bad ZA is in comparison.

Yes and no.
Yes in that it's a lot freer and you can fight alongside your pals. It feels a lot more dynamic.
No in that you can't directly direct your pals actions, save for the pals you can mount, but then you are controlling the pal directly instead of just directing it and working as a second entity.
Up to taste, I guess.

The monster riding mechanic patent will probably get torn up under the same grounds as the pokeball / monster catching patent. There are plenty of pre-existing works that Pocketpair can cite that predate Nintendo's patent, plus the standard of Nintendo's patent lacking "inventiveness." Anyone can watch a movie or look at a painting where a character rides on the back of a flying monster and say "that would be neat in a video game," which means that it's not patentable, which I am sure will be proven in court.
>>
>>724569295

That's because the US patent office is run by unqualified people who don't give a shit. They just rubberstamp every patent that comes their way and leave it to the courts to decide in a potential lawsuit later if it actually holds up.

Capcom had their copyright suit against Data East thrown out for not being infringement despite it being Fighter's History even more of a knock off of Street Fighter II than Palworld is of Pokemon. No one's going to try suing over copyright unless it's literally the same characters being actually stolen.

Do you genuinely think you know better than nintendo's plethora of lawyers?
They don't own "cute looking monsters" they own specific pokemon. They didn't use their pokemon. There is nothing to attack on that front.
>>
>>724575819

Pokemon ZA is one of the worst in the series. Arceus was a step towards something genuinely compelling and they've already changed course again for no reason.

Palworld is just a survival crafting game with a pokemon skin though, so honestly barely is a comparison - but it's an indie game made with a vision and a decent level of passion and that makes it leagues above Gamefreak's slop.

This whole affair has really revealed how deeply corrupt and cronyistic Japan really is. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo started sending Yazuka thugs to harass Pocket devs. Nintendo probably has its plants in the government trying to do some nasty shit too.

Everyone knows the Famitsu threads is just a Tendie containment zone since regardless of what actually happens (even when the Switch is down). It's just tendies circle jerking that their handheld beat a console in a market that prefers handhelds. Most likely this "PALSNOYS" is another tendie acting as a sock puppet to continue this weird idea that anyone who criticize Nintendo must be a Sony guy. Also, Palworld was on Steam and XBox before it was on Playstation so not sure why you'd assume a Palworld fan would be a Sony guy anyway. It just shows that Tendies don't know shit about video games if its not on their Fisher Price toy.
>>
>>724575819
They're different genres entirely, but Palworld's quality is significantly higher since the devs actually care about the game. Pokemon games have been continually one-upping each other with how bad they can get.
