As I was playing videogames. Drowning in a depressive lack of faith in them to be interesting or possess any sense of intentionality that isnt "interaction for interactions sake". In desperation I remembered something, somebody had told me on this board that made no sense a while ago. "No, Kingdom Hearts was the Zelda of its generation". Some context: I played Kingdom Hearts when very young at a friends house. Its astonishing to look back at the kind of ways you viewed things as a child. I distinctly remember the OST. But I also remember being scared, theres a very odd lonely feeling to Kingdom Hearts once shit hits the bed on the island and Riku and Kairi are gone. I think its the sense of nothing making sense, everything being mysterious, and suddenly being transported to unfamilar worlds that seemingly make no sense. So when I revisted the game much older, with my understanding of the lore, of how the series was understood to be. And most importantly of how "clunky" the first game is considered, combined with the fact that at the time when I played revisted KH as an adult. I had less of a tolerance or appreciation for games with friction that SEEMED unnecessary. This context is important because it shows that I went into Kingdom Hearts with a preconception and I want to check here whether I was wrong. Based on KH2 obviously being the most popular game of the series, and me having played that one and being bored by its shallow straightforward levels and combat (typical of this era) where it felt like enemies have little to no stunlock (or poise) and just ignore your attacks (not damage) and no dedicated dash, or meaningful jump, or block, or crowd control seemingly whatsoever. I played a little of KH1 first and then skipped to KH2 because KH1 was too confusing and annoying navigation wise. Because my impression of the series was predicated on KH2 and the series being an action game.So I wonder if I didnt give KH1 a chance. When its what ive been looking for
