About 50 % of both paths is the same. You can run through it pretty quick in NG+.

do vengeance story first. Takes about 80 hours. Then NG+ and easiest difficulty if you wanna blast through the story of the other half, or you could literally finish it in like 6 hours skipping all the dialogue and cutscenes and friekugeling every boss if you rush it.

Because Nocturne didn't even finish doing everything they envisioned V to be. You can even hear Yamai talk about this when he was promoting the Nocturne remake about how they wanted the whole game to be walking around the netherworld desert but couldn't due to console limitations. V is like using all the ideas Nocturne had to scrap. It had a long development and testing time with a lot of scrapped ideas.

Thank god. Because of that, we got some actually good dungeons in Nocturne. And in V the best looking area is the only one that's not mainly desert but a strange, transformed landscape garden of eden to replace the abysmal crap one we got in the original release.

This is the whole issue with V's story. It's written for the Japanese perspective. You know every law vs chaos demon argument you have to pick a side on? Every one of these touches on current day issues the Japanese are facing. Not to mention, all the Amatsu lore that is dropped and not elaborated on at all because the Japanese audience doesn't need that context to understand it. I mean Atlus West did not do a great job translating the game but much of it just can't be translated into english very well at all. Pretty much falls off when you get into the endgame.
In my opinion it's a good JRPG but nothing to write home about.
There are a lot of people on this site that get really worked up about it, though.
I'm assuming they're Nintendo-only gamers and they've never really played other JRPG 's or other notable video games in general.

This story is horrible. The characters are so boring I just started fast-forwarding and skipping cutscenes. The ONLY cool part of the story is the Nohabino stuff - everything else is pretty shit.
I seriously don't see how I was supposed to give a shit about the world being destroyed or whatever when the game didn't give me a reason to give a fuck about anything or anyone.

The combat is extremely same-y, restrictive, and plain.
A good example of how limited you are with innovation is how charges work.
You can have a character Critical Charge themselves which gives them a 100% crit rate, right?
So you think "okay, now I'll have this character use 'Donum Gladi' on the character I just buffed" which is a move that doubles a strength based attack.
You'd think both of these buff would stay right and you can have some fun and get a big number hit?
No.
This games fucking dumbass combat system only allows one single charge-type buff to be applied, so if another one is used on the same character the previous buff gets overridden.
That's dogshit JRPG design.
There are way, way better JRPG 's to play than this. I don't know why it gets sucked off so much - I guess /v/ is full of retards.

While the game is fine I feel like it's one of the least replayable megaten games. The power creep and general amount of options given to you in vengeance is simply too much. This game has no matador, minotaur or medusa, right from the start you dominate everything and the one gimmick boss is totally nullified by having void charm from apsaras or her essence.
I played through vengeance twice and I never see myself replaying the game ever again while older titles still give me the itch to try some new builds.

Ukemochi's story about being killed by Susano-o is only found in one account out of 4 different versions of his mythology and in one version it's Tsukuyomi that did it. In every version of the killing of Amaterasu's favorite maiden and her horse, all of this is accidental and Susano-o even tries to immediately apologize. In every version though, he goes through a purification ceremony where he respectfully proves his good intentions to his sister in a friendly duel. Evey time they do this Susano-o shows he is of good heart despite his tantrums and this is before he rescues his wife.
You've also probably ignored the fact that SMTV tries to go back to Susano-o's roots in Izumo which has far more stories about him just being a normal guy that wanted to grow rice. The Nihon Shoki is not all that exists in terms of his mythology. That entire region of Japan is filled with shrines dedicated to him describing multiple stories of Susano-o planting trees and growing crops that don't exist in the Shoki. This is why Demeter called him a rice god literally in game. You have Susano-o pop culture brain rot.

I don't think I'll ever understand why people loved Aogami so much. The only memorable scene to me was when he disappeared and we got an actually interesting dynamic with the other fusion form, other than that he's basically a non character for everything but his own arc which isn't even particularly noteworthy.

Demon fusion is a chore in every SMT game and it makes all their demons feel like temporary vendor trash.

You could ask the same of all companions to MCs in SMT. People love Demi's pixie that did literally nothing. Did you play SMT1? The heroine rarely speaks and her major role is being supportive and rescuing you once. Sound familiar? Having someone to rely on in the apocalypse is appealing. But unsurprisingly this character is difficult to enjoy unless you're a yume or a fujo because he's male. If you switched Aogami for Nuwa and had her do and say the same things to you that Aogami does, do you think that wouldn't be more popular?

Every stat except agility is a viable path for beano, just pick whatever feels cool to you. Strictly balance wise str and magic are about equal and vit/support build is the meta endgame build. You simply cannot compete with demons when it comes to damage output because they have better innates and beano cannot be unsummoned during combat.

This is a misleading claim (even though it's somewhat true).
Strength or magic should be a main focus (not both obviously, there is no abilities that scales from both).
Vitality is the second most important stat. Also unlike damage stats it scales linearly without any softcaps.
Agility does something regarding accuracy, but it's pretty negligible.
Luck does something regarding crit rate, but it's pretty pointless.
And the reason luck is pointless is because formulas use not only your stats but differences between your stats and the enemy's stats. Meaning with high luck you will crit often against basic weak enemies, but won't crit at all against bosses with their bloated stats.

A fairly ok experience if you haven't played many SMT games.
A very, very boring experience if you've played many SMT games.

You can build into any stat and beat the game with it, they all have their tech.

Obviously STR and MAG have their own movesets, STR will lean on Crits and MAG will lean on exploiting weakness, but both work all game. VIT has the best scaling and you can make Beano tanky support bot (probably his actual strongest build), AGI let's you reliably use the low accuracy phys skills which are generally the strongest attacks, LCK increases the rate of status ailment effects landing and the only boss in the game immune to status ailments is the final boss so you can cripple every other boss in the game. (LCK also affects crit rate but only in huge amounts so it's not really relevant as a stat investment outside of super endgame stat grinding. )

You could also consider doing a mix STR/MAG build. That way you can check out all the Nahobino's unique skills and pick and choose the ones you want.
