Why don't devs just use Unreal Engine 4?
>>
>>724623557
some devs get paid to use 5.
>>
>>724623557
All UE4 features(except Physx) are available on UE5, you can crank down all graphical features of UE5 at any moment, but devs want lumen. Awoved had only 2 designers for lighting because of that
>>
>>724623557
lumen and nanite slop means you have to try even less hence now we're getting forced ray tracing.
>>
>>724623557
because high turnover means all the grunt work is done by new designers who were taught by educators paid to ensure everyone they teach only knows how to use ue5
>>
>hurr UE4 good UE5 bad
fucks sake, one of UE5's biggest issues (shader comp stutter & load stutter) are carryovers from UE4
>>
>>724623808
This, companies want lumen cause it means they don't have to hire lighting engineers. Yes this means gamers get fucked because lumen sucks dick but UE5 was practically made for the whole indian outsourcing / AI market to begin with which is why everyone flocks to it.
>>
>>724623985
This is the real answer to be honest.

>UE4 is bad
>UE5 is even worse
Like that, you dummy.
>>
>>724623557
Same reason you don't use Windows 7 anymore. Because they stopped supporting it so regardless if you liked it better or not you're forced to move on.
>>
>>724623808
>you can crank down all graphical features of UE5
and even when you do this the engine still runs 40% worse than UE4
>>
>>724624592
>He actively refuses to make a 3D engine to replace Unreal Engine

His fault.
>>
>>724624335
You don't need "lighting engineers" to bake light probes in UE4, anon. The only nice thing I'll say about Lumen is it's a WYSIWYG solution, but the better approach would be to take that information and bake it into a more traditional rendering manner, especially if your game's world lighting is static.

>>724623557
The devs of Kingmakers are using UE4 for their game, explicitly for performance reasons over UE5.
>>
>>724624858
>You don't need "lighting engineers" to bake light probes in UE4, anon
You know this is the reason why people are saying older games look better than newer ones right? Developers just using default tools instead of innovating is what's causing this degradation of graphics.
>>
>>724624725
Did you upgrade any of your projects to ue5? Or did someone from internet tell you this?
>>
>>724624930
developers back then - bunch of tech nerds who gave a shit and liked what they were doing
developers now - soulless corpo slaves that don't give a shit and only know how to work with one specific engine
>>
>>724624930
Older games look better than newer ones because they're not relying on mandatory ghosting, blurry upscaling solutions to provide a clean output.

Except for the brown&bloom era on 360 where some devs got a little retarded with the number of stacked post-fx filters, but even that was done at native resolution on PC.

>>
>>724624726
>he actively refuses to write 100k lines of optimized code and develop tools to work with the engine
no shit bro, you could get away with writing your own engine back in the past because you didn't need to cram tons of features into it
>>
>>724625276
Why the fuck did everyone just decide
>yeah all rendering pipelines should just output pixely garbage unless you use TAA lmao

Lumen is the absolute culmination of dogshit rendering
>The performance impact is huge
>It creates extremely noisy images even while standing still
>tons of ghosting can be seen while moving around
>doesn't even look good because Epic is still using inaccurate diffuse shading equations from 1760 so everything just looks wrong
Fuck Tim Sweeney

This is what a 2025 in-house engine look like. Of course devs will go for UE5.
>>
>>724623557
Lumen is the problem
Disable it and watch your UE5 game triple in FPS. Its literally just a worse Bloom option and looks like dogshit
>>
>>724626475
Sony's own studios seem to have zero problems all creating their own AAA engines that push visual standards, on a fucking base PS4 no less. Unless you're going to pretend that Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerilla, SuckerPunch, and Insomniac don't do so.
>>
>>724625995
Console market = Can't change settings = "They won't notice it from 5ft away on a chair".
TAA/upscaling also lets them 'cheat' performance by just adding more blur.
>>
Because it's old as fuck? Jesus, you retards just want to be stuck in the past with shit graphics just to be contrarian
>>
>>724623557
because 5 is a bigger number than 4 retard
>>
>>724627457

*laughs in vega 64s 4000bit memory bus*
not my fault you keep buying gpus with 256bit buses. You must be really dumb, not even 5090s have good bus speed. its like 512bit
>>
>>724629530
It's still happening with 5070 cards. If that's not good enough, then something is really wrong with your engine.
>>
>>724629141
I figure it's like UE3 where there's some upper limit as to how fast it'll stream in textures, no matter how hard you bruteforce it.
>>
Unoptimized for modern hardware.
>>
>>724630507
As opposed to...?
>>
>>724630507
every game since the ps3 era has proper gpu support and runs at thousands of fps
>>
>>724623557
UE5 has a more robust physics system, better material systems, new animation blending and rigging and that neat faciak capture stuff. Ignore lumen and nanite and it's still much better.

In other words it's good for making movie games using gay Californian humans but bad for making anything anime or stylish unless you count games like Valorant where it's UE4 ported to UE5 And not the other way around.

It’s a combo of three things
>1
Unreal Engines out-of-the-box “features” are poorly optimized gimmicks
>2
Devs too inexperienced to know how to turn them off/tweak the engine by hand
>3
Modern NVidia GPUs aren’t designed to run video games but to run LLMs

All 3 combined mean modern graphics design is to generate fake AI frames/lighting etc and if you don’t it runs at 10 fps because nothing is optimized without it
>>
>>724623557
no lumen
no nanite
The point to UE5 is that devs can be lazy.
>>
>>724626475
lol, nice PS2 game...

Always baffles me how many Day 1 or day 2 """mods""" for UE5 games i keep seeing on Nexus that just consist of optimized Engine.ini files.
The absolute STATE of poojeet devs
>>
>>724623557
The Star Wars Jedi games use UE4 and are some of the worst optimized games ever

???
Modern CryEngine is sadly not used almost at all and Crysis 4 is dead.
