>Wii U: An HD upgrade of Wii with extra features, plus back compatibility with Wii (and with Gamecube thanks to modding)
>It flops commercially because of its confusing marketing
>Switch: An inferior, stripped down Wii U with less basic features even comparing to Wii
>It prints money

I don't understand

Can you take a Wii U with you to a friend's house? You can but have fun setting up all that bullshit.

Switch just pops into the dock and your ready to game.

The best feature it had was the remote play even if the range wasn't that great. I bought one when on a business trip up to Rochester for 3 months and it was great to play a bunch of stuff in the hotel room. I remember being able to take the screen to the bathroom lol.

It wasn't as good as it should have been but it was an in-between just like the Gamecube and Switch 2.

The Wii U and the Switch prove that having games has nothing to do with success. The fickle casual will find some other reason to buy or not buy a console.
>>
>>724636887
Can you carry around Switch without a huge ass, expensive carrying case (the cheap ones barely fit just the tablet screen and the joycons and nothing more) ? Even the official Nintendo carrying cases are crap.

Switch is advertised as a home console - portable hybrid but it's barely portable.
>>
>>724636583
The Switch was a better and portable Wii U thoughbeit.
>>
>>724637290
Speaking for having games, why consoles eshops (especially at Switch) have so many shovelware games now? Not even Ps2 and Wii had so many shovelware.
>>
>>724637910
You're aware that a lot of smartphones actually have a bigger screen size than the OG switch? A switch is just that with two joy cons.
Sure you can't keep it in your pocket but it's an easy fit in any bag.
>>
>>724638027
More portable than Wii U? Maybe. Better? No. Name me one thing Switch did better besides its "portability".

Smartphones aren't that huge, retard. OG Switch is more like a smaller screen tablet but fatter and heavier.

My 10 inches tablet and my 8bitdo controller are much more portable in comparison.
>>
>>724637910
It's a pretty shit home console too, with no disc drive, about 10 years out of date at launch, and a gimped controller sold separately.

If it wasn't for the first party games (like Pokemon Sword) I wouldn't buy Switch 1. And now with even Nintendo games for Switch 2 (and half of Switch 1 Nintendo games) being disappointing, with Pokemon franchise now being trash (Pokemon Sword was the only Pokemon game I played at Switch) and with Nintendo's soul dying after Iwata's death I don't play buying Switch 2 or any future Nintendo console. Maybe a Gameboy Classic Mini if they ever decide making one but I doubt it, seeing the crap they did now with Virtual Boy.
>>
>>724638723
Not to mention that even Nintendo has now went fully ESG-pandering. Maybe not as bad as other companies but still.

Nintendo's first party games this gen have been mediocre. The only good thing I can say is that it's not the Wii U.
>>
>>724638723
>>724638791
And I forgot to mention: I'm not wasting 500 dollars for a fucking console and 70-90 dollars for a fucking game. Good thing for PCs.
>>
>>724638874
Half of the best and most successful Nintendo games at Switch 1 are ports of Wii U games. One of the reasons I bought Switch was to play Wii U games that got ported to Switch since I never owned a Wii U.
>>
Another thing I hate with modern is their remakes: Nintendo used to make great or at least remakes. Now most of them are trash with few exceptions like Link's Awakening and Super Mario RPG, both of them surprisingly uncensored (the only censorship Link's Awakening has is the one it already had at its Gameboy Color port and the global release of the original game).
>>
>>724638969
Yeah if you owned a Wii U then the Switch is a lot less impressive.
>>
>>724639135
Remakes are pretty pointless these days. If you showed me a screenshot of TTYD on Gamecube and Switch, I wouldn't be able to tell you which is which. It's not like 30 years ago when technology was moving quickly and you could make huge upgrades.
>>
>>724639135
I feel that the problem with Nintendo re-releases is general feeling that they lack value.
Like, look at Super Mario All Stars, and compare it to the Anniversary thing they released on Switch.
All Stars had literally all games up to that point, including the weird one that West never got. Meanwhile the Switch one was missing Galaxy 2 and 3D Land (the game can still work without 3D effects)... It just felt like very bare-bones package. And that just feels like case with lots of stuff from them these days.
>>
>>724639360
TTYD isn't a remake. It's an HD port. And a shitty one on top of that, with its localization being even more butchered than its Gamecube version localization. No wonder the Switch port sold less than the Gamecube version and generally speaking it was a huge commercial flop.

But yeah: the majority of modern remakes and Hd remasters are a huge, bad joke. Just emulate the older games and use HD resolution filters or whatever they're called.
>>
>>724639732
It's all the same to me, unless they can reinvent the game like Metroid Zero Mission or REmake it's a pointless affair.

Remakes lose their soul and small details are changed which changes how the game is supposed to be viewed.

Look at this small dialogue change at the ending of links awakening. It's a small change but it changes the whole meaning of the game. In the GB version the wind fish is saying that the memories you remember in life are the real dreamworlds, and that dreaming itself is fake compared to real memories.

In the remake he just says someday you may recall the island, that memory makes the dream world real. Its a watered down version which is more based on the game instead of philosophy, saying that Marin didn't really die and everything's ok if it disappears.

Anyways sorry I am autistic but I hate and love remakes of my favorite games since every remake it loses a little of its soul. Who knows what links awakening will be like in 2060 after its remade a few more times.
>>
>>724639960
One one hand, I think it's fine that games that are not backwards compatible are being made available on new systems, since I think some are still really great, and many kids don't really understand emulation.
...But I wish they were also more accessible as far as price went. Picking up Remake/Remaster from same price as new releases is pretty hard sell.
>>
>>724640413
See this:
>>724638068

On top of that it has so many ports of older games that trying to find new games is a pain in the ass. Not to mention ones that aren't smartphone Ai generated shovelware. It's like browsing Google Play and Steam.
>>
>>724637290
It is and always will be the marketing and perception of the system itself.
>>
>>724640645
Here's another thing regarding the marketing: Switch's marketing is soulless and cringe as hell. And yet it worked. HOW! Even Wii U and 3DS games marketing had much more soul.
>>
>>724640806
Because the concept was easy for braindead tech illiterate normalfags to grasp and they showed a bunch of those braindead tech illiterate normalfags playing it in their ads instead of having obnoxious children begging their parents to buy the system for them like the Wii U marketing did. Normalfags don't care about soul, they care about relatability and public perception.
>>
>>724638158
More powerful and quieter. Full RGB output instead of limited on Wii U. Remember you had HDR consoles on the market while the Wii U output in limited RGB lmao.
>>
>>724640954
Gameboy, Wii and DS were heavily marketed for normies of all ages and both men and women. And yet their marketing had soul and they were comfy. Even the DS and Wii booths at Nintendo stores in USA had nice y2k vibe.

But unfortunately we now live in the era of soulless slops.
>>
>>724641104
>More powerful
Barely. Which is why many Switch ports of multiplatform games are trash, even 2D games with no high requirements like Sonic Superstars and Bloodstains. Even ports of PS1 games like FFVII are crap.
>>
>>724640416
All translated works are remakes of the original
>>
>>724641338
How did they fuck up a PSX port?
>>
>>724641338
Sonic Superstars was developed by idiots. There's no excuse why a 2D platformer in Unity had to be gimped this hard.
