>It's basically a point and click game with guns. YawnWhy is this game so highly regarded?
you are gay
>>724682686Not an argument
>>724682484It's bad
>>724682484>basically a point and click game with gunsBecause of this very reason. Also you are meant to play 1996 RE1 and the sequels first, and only then the REmake.
>>724682484You literally just described why this game is good.
Original or REmake?
>>724684593Remake
Should RE clones always have save rooms? Would it invalidate the whole point if you have save states?
>>724684593play both
>>724684789Play neither, skip to 2
You are now manually aware of the fact that you want to like re1 to fit in but re4 is simply more fun
>>724682484most games are a variation of point and click games, retard
>>724682484Wait but who are the residents... and why are they evil?
>>724683935I will never stop laughing at the retards who pretend the old games were some kind of hardcore survival challenge. They're all piss easy and give you tons of ammo to boot.
>>724686183fag
>>724686105They keep making them
>>724685375I like approximately 1/3rd of RE4, but I don't have that resident-evil-fan superpower where they can mentally ignore the other 2/3rds at all times.
>>724682484That's why it's good. It's entries like 5 and 6 that suck ass.
>>724686652Kinda the same for me, except it's more 50/50. 4 definitely isn't a favorite entry of mine. I'll take Rev1 or RE2make as far as OTS entries go.
>>724686675>Ignores that 7 and 8 exist
>>7246868917 is MUCH better than those two, especially given how much it borrows from Rev1 since it has the same director. 8 is very hit or miss but I'll take its good parts over those games as well, though it certainly slips into similar lows too.
>>724686183I will never stop laughing at the retards who can't remember the first time they played the old games.
>>724682484The minute puzzle element of moving your character at specific angles at specific moments to avoid combat in dynamic action sequences, on top of the shocking combat and 3D gore, was several steps removed from from games like "Hugos House of Horrors"; and seeing the horror in detailed cutscenes elevated it from whatever /lit/fag tortureporn they saw descripted to them in "I have no mouth and I must scream". Hope that le helps.
>>7246868917 and 8 are several degrees better than all the shit that started with RE4 and Silent Hill 4. Everything after is a an actual return to form and you need to keep coping.
>>724685375Literally the opposite for me.
>>724684593Original Director's Cut for me. Advanced mode is cool.
>>724684593It's not even a contest, the DEmake is dogshit only cubie zoomers who only had a shitcube would defend.
>>724684593I think the original is the better game>Zombies are actually dangerous because they can stunlock you if there is more than 1>Hunters give less warning signs when they are about to one shot you, in REmake you can make them fall by knifing them while they jump at you>The pacing of the game is better than in REmake, the extended caves drag on to long and they force you to return to the mansion for a third time with nothing changedREmake does alot of things good as well like new modes and crimson Heads but seeing the game is easier than the original they arent really necessary there and all the content is on a single port unlike OG. All in all i would say play them both because they still have the same core gameplay design unlike the other remakes that are designed differently because fixed cameras scare people.
>>724686183they were hard if you were aiming for a high score
>>724683935it's funny you edited your dumb image from RE3 Jill to RE1 Jill because you kept getting BTFO
>>724683935Why is that a Mexican ?
>>724684661OP is such a dumbass that I'm not sure why you're bothering, but save rooms matter to tension and how you approach horror games. You see when old games add save states in emulation, and other mechanics like "you can't save when enemies are nearby".>>724686105Biohazards and the scientists who make them. Mad scientists at that.
>>724684593DS version is very underrated. Its a straight port of the original game but the 2nd screen for menus as you play is a huge step up in QoL
>>724682484>Yawnhehehe I see what you did there
>>724682484>YawnThis house is too dangerous. There are terrible demons! Ouch!
>>724691691>in REmake you can make them fall by knifing them while they jump at youinteresting. I don't think I knew about this.
>>724694602To be specfic, the REmake adds location damage and crit chancesSo if you aim UP at a zombie there is a chance to instantly kill it via head shot crit. If you aim DOWN at a zombie you deal leg damage and knock them over. if you DONT AIM and shoot at the chest its a dice roll for a crit. Jill has a high base crit chance, Chris has low crit chance. The shotgun is 100% crit if you aim UP at zombies. They always lose the head and wont reanimate later. (this saves you having to burn shit) But you also get defense knives/grenades so who cares? lol
>>724686105It's me, I am the resident, and I am evil because I am an obese nigger(2x ontological evilness)HAHA
>>724686105Spencer is the resident, and he's evil because zombies
>>724682484Was thinking the same thing about ome games. The old splintercell games were the same. I think we are slowly evolving there was a time when point and click games were all they had. God knows what games will be like in the future. Old games are kinda stiff
>>724683935Remember back in the day playing re4. Would just shoot zombies in the head or shoot them in the leg and then use the knife to dispatch them, I had a ton of ammo in the end. I hear you got more ammo in the first parts of re4 then you got in the whole game in re1
>game that is 30 years old>I don't understand why people liked thiszoomers are such subhuman fucking retards its insanego buy another $100 worth of shark cards in gta online you stupid fag
>>724694747yeah, that I'm familiar with, except for chris and jill having different crit chances. neat info all around though, thanks anon. I did think the OG1 had it too, or maybe I'm just mixing it up with dismembering enemies in OG2. that shit was cool.
>>724684661It can build tension but taking away save states can be frustrating. Remember in the old days how horrible it was having save rooms. It really made things inconvenient and annoying if you are playing games you cannot keep playing and quitting at any time you had to play until the next save point. Worse are the duck head devs who use to put a two bosses at the same time so you had to beat a boss not be able to save than fight another boss. Or the check point happens just as the boss kills you so you have no chance but to restart the whole level.
>>724686183Stolen valour you never played old games.
>>724695113I never really minded this for most games, but you did remind me of when I had to save up for weeks to get a PS2 memory card and I was still trying to play through FFX for the first time. I replayed the beginning so many times I lost count, and one time I made it as far as the moonflow before the console got turned off. I got extremely pissed off because of that.
Because that's cool. I like adventure games.
>>724682484I read it as "Resident Bvll" from the thumbnail. am I mentally cooked from browsing this shitty website?

>>724682484masterclass on backtracking
>>724695367Reminds me of the 90s games had no saves.if you played a game you played it to completion in one sitting. Remember playing shinobi or streets of rage only being about to play games when parents were out so never made it past 2 or 3 levels. I think video rental companies would ask them to make games harder or make it unfair so games were like that.I think it's why blockbuster went out of business cos they made memory cards, also god know how badly game development suffered cos those companies wanted to games not to have saves.
>>724695932I dunno, I remember a lot of games that had saves around then, but I know what you mean. there were a lot of sega genisis, NES, and game gear games I never finished back then from getting filtered a few levels in and having to start the game over completely every time. aladdin, the lion king, and batman comes to mind especially. I think it was more a hold over from arcade game design than anything else, but I'm sure rental companies loved it while it commonplace.
>>724684593bothplaying the original makes REmake better as it plays with your expectations
>>724682484With Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, I love playing them, but I can't ever get over just how autistic the gameplay is I would kill to invent the combat and gameplay of a game with the kind of oomf the nipponese put into some of these IPs, it's so galling that both these boil down to 'wow this is so cool OOPS fun's over time to metagame and min/max'
>>724695113>>724693550danks for answering. good to keep in mind for some shit im working on

>>724684593REmake anyone that says the original are nostalgia idiots.
>>724697047it wouldn't be as satisfying if you didn't have to be properly prepared and think ahead a little bit. I have no qualms about stuff like limited inventories, but MH does have a lot of farming for materials that gets pretty annoying. having to manage limited resources that still gives you some variety in how you approach situations, but that you can't farm will always be preferable to me.
>>724684593Play both. They're very short games, you can beat them in one sitting, and it's cool to see all the differences.

>>724697853I'm talking about how Monhun has this UNPRECEDENTED attention to detail and just insane work put into animations of monsters, you get these funky open worlds full of life, but the way you actually find yourself in that world and fight these monsters is just like going for S++ in MGSV- you deploy, speedrun, and get yanked out of the instance. You don't ROAM. You don't trek. The exploring is done in twenty minutes. I know it's all a big package with lore and everything, I'm not saying it's bad at all, it's just always been weird to me seeing this much oomf go into a formula and then it narrowly avoids doing everything I'd be doing with that kind of oomf.

>>724682484Alone in the Dark is a point and click with guns. RE is mostly key hunting. That'd be like saying a Doom wad that has a Tower of Hanoi puzzle in with the keyhunting is a glorified adventure game.>>724684593Original but REmake is one of the best looking games to exist so I don't mind it existing. If anything it's kind of good that it's a little worse than the original as a game, reinforces that even in the best remake, original games are never truly just disposable content.
>>724684593You should play both because they are ultimately different experiences but if you must play ONLY 1 then just do remake.
>>724698636I think I see what you mean, and I agree that the detail into damage, weak spots, environments that affect gameplay, and how focusing on enemy parts can actually change how they fight you is a huge part of what made the series great. I still think prep work is big part of the game. once you get to G-rank tier enemies you need to farm resources for item buffs/upgrades, learn the game inside and out, or rely on getting carried. otherwise you're getting insta-carted.

So fucking lame, basically just pure fanservice slop with some low effort cutscenes Instead of enemies having interesting movement, you just get to wack 'tougher' enemies eight times in a row with ORAORAORA attacks and that's it Nothing actually hurts you, dying is barely a mechanic, you're just kneading dough and looking at the minimap Meanwhile the only good Berserk game is fucking forgotten and the closest thing we have to its combat in 2025 is a fucking indie game with minecraft graphics and two guys working on it

>>724700668>3's remake conveniently left out
>>724700256To me, Dynasty Warriors and Monhun commit the same sin that ruins everything- They take the thrill out the kind of combat that should be making you nervous and giddy. Monster Hunter feels like fucking wow raiding to me, it's flashy and hectic, but it's way too much of a war of attrition to be thrilling. You know the scene where Guts fights 100 men? That's the dynamic I want. Any one of those enemies could land a good hit and he'd be done. He has to address each threat individually, managing the approaching enemies with constant aggression. He's basically locked in playing a rhythm game. One game that gave me a unique thrill was Attack on Titan Wings of Freedom. When a titan starts pivoting its head toward you while you're mid-air, or when an abnormal locks onto you and starts tumbling toward you, it feels exactly how it's supposed to feel when you're panicking trying to avoid ending up grabbed.

This discussion makes me think of a paradox of survival horror I noticed. The games are supposed to be challenging survival experiences where you need to manage resources to beat them, but actually a generic TPS is harder overall than a survival horror. Like undeniably RE4 remake on professional (not using NG+ unlocks) is harder than any of the OG REs. Yet it's a retarded shooter action game. Yet if you take a player completely new to the series and make them play RE 1996 and RE4 remake on their hardest difficulties, guaranteed that player will have more game overs in RE4 remake than RE OG.
>>724713090Hard gives you stupid amounts of ammo, zombies eat stupid amounts of ammo but pistols have rng headshot crit.
>>724713090>Seamless HD Projectlmao
>>724713523Tbf RE4R's pro mode is deliberately overtuned to sell DLCs. Like tryhards will deny it but if you compare the difficulty with and without cheat weapons it's so obvious that the mode was not designed around a vanilla playthrough and their DLC model is basically just to make an irritating experience for the player to sell extra content
>>724713523OG RE are mostly knowledge checks, except maybe if you're dealing with dogs and hunters which require some execution. RE4 OG and remake require a lot more execution even when you know what's coming

Survivor may be short but i think Sheena Island is one of the best locations in the series, shame Capcom will never remake it as a fixed camera game with every area being heavily expanded upon. >>724712275I can go turn on my GC right now and blow the head off every single zombie by aiming up with the shotgun. Its stupidly OP. Its how the gun works. Pistol is pure RNG on critical hits but shotgun you aim up and it decaps. I dont know why thats just how the original release of rebirth was.
>>724717746>HAHA TIME FOR OUTBREAK!I only played 1, but I did play the shit out of it. such a great game, that had the perfect amount of player interaction for a coop RE game.I really wish they would ditch their recent attempts to recreate it by aping modern shitty asymmetric games, but I really doubt that will happen.
>>724719640If you actually played the GCN remake, you’d know that isn’t the case. There are literal magazine interviews about how this isn’t the case and how Mikami didn’t want to make a “splatter game”.
>>724682484>It's basically a point and click game with guns. Gross oversimplification for the purposes of trolling. Solution : immediate self-immolation.
>>724719640>>724719752I never tried to test it out for the sake of pinning down the exact numbers, but the shotgun was decently reliable in popping a zombie's head when aiming up and waiting for them to close in. that said, I distinctly remember it not being an absolute thing.
>>724719640Good luck with that.
>>724720213It has nothing to do with distance. If the game rolls a critical hit it will decapitate them as long as the shot connects with their head. The shotgun is hard coded to always crit the first time after you acquire it so you can easily test this yourself. I probably could have killed this guy a little farther out but you get the idea.
>>724682484Not enough zoomies for you?
Game is good, but definitely overhyped for its amazing graphics at time. From a game design point of view it is hardly better than the original game, but for some reason people think it is 10x better than the original. If only genuine survival horror masterpieces like Siren 1 weren't too hardcore for the average REtard who has the nerve to call RE7 and RE8 good games people wouldn't overhype it so much.
>>724720670it will decapitate them as long as the shot connects with their headalright, I always assumed the chances were higher by letting them get closer; for all weapons. does the shotgun still have a higher chance than the pistol for crits then, or is it all the same?
>>724720670I can't believe the magnum isn't a guaranteed decapitation.
