Honestly, hitting rock bottom. Had the worst major depressive episode of my life, 1 and a half year of pure emotional and psychological agony. And on top of all that alot of sad shit happened like people close to me dying and alot of other shit. It was the point were it got so bad that it wasnt sustainable. I remember giving myself a year and if I hadnt improved, I would off myself. Nearly did a few times.

It was honestly alot of work trying to go through all of my emotional baggage and trying to restructure my own messed up psyche. I don't think that depression is a particularized, discrete phenomenon so much as it is the absence of certain things that our brains need: in particular, a support group of people who respect and care about you, and hope. I think you are expecting too much out of individuals. No one going to be super great friend where you vibe on all the same things and its all happy days.
You can spend time with individuals about specific interests, maybe you find some other things in common and its even better, but there isn't going to be some person who fulfills it all. Not even a clone of yourself.
Personally I find that appreciating the time you do spend with people, the interactions you do have, are what you should focus on, not that they could be deeper or you could get more out of them.

The sensation is just muddled because the conditions fueling the former have been present for so long that some people think it's chronic because their lives have just felt like that their entire lives.

I used to date a girl with chronic depression, it definitely does exist, and seeing how chronic depression manifests itself I can see a clear contrast between it and what is just nihilism. I just wish things could be easier for others. Just like that other another I got into a position that has given me more hope for my future, but I feel like it was nothing more than pure luck that I was able to seize the moment that granted me that hope.
