Vampires need too much blood to exist in large numbers, they require an exponentially large amount of blood slaves and there are deeply entrenched anti-vampire organizations that would fight against them, the entire catholic church, most government agencies, most mages belong to traditions that abhor vampires for one reason or another.
Paradox would instantly become less of a problem because of the breakdown of consensus following a masquerade breach, if vampires exist, they can spontaneously combust.

And Mages excel in shady stuff and indirect conflict, it's their whole existence.
