>Game comes out>Tons of reviewers call it a complete masterpiece, "The Citizen Kane of gaming", the greatest game of all time, etc>Wins multiple GotY awards>Even suggesting you dislike the game to normalfags gets you accused of being a contrarian>The years pass>People become more and more vocally critical of the game, often using the same arguments that the "contrarians" from before were using>Several of the reviewers that praised it at launch admit it's kind of shit>Popular consensus is now that the game was bad, to the point that "Bioshock Infinite is bad" is the first result on google when you type "Bioshock Infinite is"So uh, what happened there? Why was there such a mass psychosis regarding this game that has since flipped back the other way? With a game like Braid I can at least understand that it was a lot of people's babby's first indie game, but this was a major production. I don't think I've ever seen a game's general consensus in the public drop this hard without something like a really bad update being released.
>>724701092The biggest problem with the game is that you never hear the word nigger
it was the first colorful AAA game coming out of the brown piss filter era, it was freshand then people realized that only being able to carry two weapons fucking suck
>>724701092>mfw people didn't understand it
>>724701154>t.
My wife, Elizabeth.
>>724701092If you think Bioshock Infinite is a bad game, you've never played a bad game.
>>724701092>>Popular consensus is now that the game was badLol a few loud trannies here is not a majority of anything
>>724701092Am I the only that felt that they literally did all the explaining of the plot in the last ten minutes?
>>724701092Here's what happened. Game journalism companies deliberately hire the people who are least capable of assessing the quality of a video game, people for whom the game washes over them in a kind of fugue state, and then they construct an opinion based on a combination artistic credibility signalling and the game's advertising budget.
>>724701092I coomed to Elizabetheverything else was mid
>>724701092My theory is that a bunch of journalists that had never played a game with a heavy emphasis on story before were shocked to see a game doing this, even though there are older games with better stories. A lot of the reviews at the time were rambling on and on about the story while barely even mentioning the gameplay, and that hype wound everyone up into thinking it must be a masterpiece because every big publication was saying it was. After that initial wave of hype had time to cool down, people looked back and took the game for what it really was.
>>724701092never really understood the hate for itgameplay wise it's pretty lackluster but the presentation and the set pieces are pretty good, even for today's standards
The ending doesn't make sense. If Elizabeth went back in time to drown Booker so he wouldn't become Comstock she would never be born, which is a Grandfather paradox. We know this is true because she vanishes after doing it. But she shouldn't have even been able to do it in the first placeSecondly, assuming there really are infinite realities and possibilities her drowning Booker doesn't matter, because then there would be infinite realities where an alternate version of her went back in time, but didn't drown Booker, there would have to be infinite Comstocks
>>724702184The entire plot makes no sense. They are trying to escape Columbia, but at one point she opens a tear to Paris. So why doesn't she just go there? Why doesn't she use her tears to escape?
>>724701092It's like an Oscar bait film.It "deals" with racism (by being brave enough to say racism is bad), it features very emotional scenes (like the unprompted guitar/singing scene, the farewell to that mechanical bird guardian), it's got a seemingly deep and meaningful plot (that doesn't make sense, but you get your tragic and deep ending)...The gameplay was a step down from B1+2, but that was never really praised. All these reviewers care about is how much like a movie the game is, how cinematic and dramatic it can get. That's also why TLoU is praised so highly. The gameplay is nothing special, but it has great non-interactive scenes!
>>724702184After discovering her powers she ends up being able to do magic. That's the real explanation. She kills Booker in the past, but he still exists in the very end. Also, there's another Booker in one of the DLCs. So it just works however the writers wanted it to work.Problem is that for most of the game they insist that there are rules to this. Constants and variables and all that. And then they just ignore that part to tell the story they want.
>>724701154they used it in my country language adaptation so it's good for me
>>724702184Or there would have to be an alternate version of Elizabeth who is brainwashed/works for Comstock and tries to stop Elizabeth from drowning him, and there would be another alternate version of Elizabeth who knows of Evil Elizabeth's plan and tries to stop her, and then an alternate version of Evil Elizabeth...Yeah, this is why you don't make a plot based on infinite possibilities
>>724701092Star Wars TFA effect. There was so much hype built around this game people convinced themselves it was amazing when they played it.But as the years went by and other Bioshock games came out, the consensus cooled down to mediocrity.
>>724702986>But as the years went by and other Bioshock games came out,bot post
>>724702986>But as the years went by and other Bioshock games came out
>>724701092Dumb people LOVE plot twists. If they see a plot twist in the end of the game they immediately forget everything that preceded it and call the game a masterpiece. I don't know why, that's just what happens. Nier Automata is another example of this. Very mediocre game praised like a masterpiece because it has plot twists. TLOU, same thing.
>>724701572It's a mediocre game. I had to force myself to finish it. The last 3-5 hours were a slog. It was so much worse than Bioshock 1.
>>724703068>>724703090nta but the DLC did sour people's opinion of Bioshock
>>724701092>buncha angloid prods built a utopia but decide to bring a buncha shitskins for some reason>they're also sorta KKK pagan worshipping WashingtonDoes a poor job in its messaging. Plenty of better anti-White media.
>>724703141It's a fun shooter, just have fun with the rail shooting mechanic and turn your brain off
>DUDE CONFUSING PLOT LMAO I've finished it and still didn't know what just happened. I though I was stupid, too low IQ, but in retrospect I tend to view it as pretentious mindfuck and dogshit writing. Bioshock 1 and 2 I regard as the best games of all time in the FPS-genre. The story and the gameplay are brilliant. Infinite was just a shooting gallery and plot written by a hack high on his farts. That's all.
>>724701092I was right and the shills have lost.I've made the gifs comparing it with FEAR when it released to fight against them here because they weren't just in normalfag spaces.
>>724703308It's just one of those stories that invents asspulled rules to make the story work. Here the asspull is time travel can change SOME things but others are constants in all universes. Why? Umm quantum fields and umm black holes and stuff. The actual reason is they stole it from Steins Gate
>>724703578And yes gifs, because we didn't have webm back then yet.
>>724703237It did, but what really happened was>Infinite has incredible marketing, some of the best-looking (fake) gameplay trailers of that era>Game finally comes out and is nothing like those gameplay trailers, basically a hallway shooter where you occasionally ride a roller coaster around a small area while shooting and crow-ing dudes instead of just shooting and crow-ing dudes>Some see it as the shit it is immediately, while others are blinded by the production values and "story" (really they just like Liz's animations and the voice acting, the actual writing is garbage)>Over time more and more people come around to seeing it for the shit it is>The first DLC gets announced>Some people think "Oh, that looks good, maybe it'll be a return to form" while others think "Lol they're gonna fuck it up again">Oops, they fucked it up again, BAS1 somehow has an even worse story than Infinite>The second DLC gets announced>Most have lost all hope at this point but some still think Kenny boy can somehow save it>BAS2 releases and has an ending that, if you described it to someone, they'd think you were describing an actual bad fanfic, like this is not an exaggeration for humor at all, it's just a bad fanfic>Interest in the franchise outside replaying 1+2 and Liz porn is completely deadI still wonder if Ken ran this shit into the ground on purpose for whatever reason
>>724701092Last of us came out and completely fucked up bioshock in the storytelling department.
>>724701092Nah, people were hating on it on release. Usually citing the simplistic gameplay and limited AI compared to what was promised in teasers and trailers. That it was universally loved is revisionism. The same with Bioshock 1, people were hating on it for being almost a remake of Deus Ex.Personally, I loved Bioshock 1 and thought Infinite was pretty good.
>>724701913Nice.
Okay, here's a thing that I never really got. I suspect there's no real answer to it, but I might have missed something. We only really care about two timelines in the game: One where Booker was a drunk and had a baby girl, and one where Booker became Comstock and traveled to Booker's timeline and stole his baby. One of the twins gets a guilty conscience and they bring over Booker to Comstock's timeline so he can save his now grown-up daughter. So far so good. But it's made extremely clear that many Bookers have tried to save their daughter before. Where do these Bookers come from? Yes, there are countless Bookers, Comstocks, and daughters, but the twins are apparently only interested in their Booker/Comstock, from their timelines, which makes sense. They can't feel responsible for what another set of twins did to the Bookers in their timelines. So where are they pulling these Bookers from? I guess they could be pulling the same Booker over and over, like the first is from 15:00 and he failed, then they try again with a 14:50 Booker (since he's still in his own timeline by this point), and then a 14:40, etc.It would have to be the same timeline Booker, right? Booker-A has to save daughter-A from Comstock-A. If other timelines were involved, they'd end up with Booker-F saving daughter-C from Comstock-C.
>>724703701Jewish people have a very strong drive to self sabotage, they always subvert their own work.
>>724703859it's just infinite cumstocks stealing infinite babies from infinite bookers across infinite universes
>>724701092Manipulative marketing, E3 demo that excited everyone and empty promises. "Gamers" and payed off "reviewers" were simply THAT stupid or rather, delusional. The game was announced as something too good to be true, but even after playing it many people wanted their delusions of it to be true.
ALL IT COSTS IS JUST A MINUTE NOW
>>724703964Yeah, but that's my point. The twins are, iirc, only interested in helping their own Booker. Are they satisfied if they just reunite one Booker with his daughter, no matter which timeline it happens in?If they are jumping to other timelines to try again, what about the twins in those timelines who may or may not be trying to do the same thing?
>>724703859the real answer is it doesn't fucking matterit's an action flick, and it's only preoccupied with going from scene A to B and having you follow the characters along their journey and the science and the rules are just there to paint some tensionthere's a point in every story that deals with this kind of stuff and magic and all that, that the spectator just has to go with the flow and accept that suspension of disbeliefnow, is it a good story? not really honestly, but trying to pick at it from that point of view is completely useless and unproductive
it was literally paid reviews and I had proof saved on computer few years ago
>>724704184Sure, that's also my suspicion. It's just a very obvious part of the game to be missing a proper explanation. But it is very clear that they had certain scenes they wanted and then just ignored everything else. We need a twist, so Booker needs amnesia. Why did he lose his memory? Well, that happens when you go to another timeline. Does it happen to everyone all the time? No, just Booker that one time.
>>724701092>Normies that eat up any slop forget about it and move on>The only opinions left are the people burned by it who can't let go, and those revisiting it after playing better gamesIts not a difficult concept.
>>724701092Its honestly weirdi played it on release and had a lot of fun with it but i never wanted to replay it or even play the DLCs
>judas STILL isn't out
>>724703308The plot isn't even confusing, it's just constantly tripping over itself.>"Hey Elizabeth, I was hired to collect you by some shady goons.">"OK.">"Hey Elizabeth, we can't go to Paris because I was hired to collect you by some shady goons.">"WHAT? HOW COULD YOU LIE TO ME? I HATE YOU BOOKER.">Blacklady McBothsides extorts you into getting weapons for her cause that you don't care about and want nothing to do with>The weapons manufacturer is dead, so you hop universes to find a universe where he's alive>Don't hop universes to simply find a new airship, or even just get to a universe where you're not being constantly hunted since this new universe would have no idea who you are and have no reason to attack you considering this universe's Elizabeth is still safely locked away in her tower>Instead we're pretending we're still trying to do the weapons deal thing for like two more universe hops because apparently everyone in this game is fucking stupidThe story is honestly pretty straightforward, it's just written like absolute dogshit because the writers are fucking clueless about the concepts they're working with. I can only assume the story worked as baby's first multiverse for a lot of people so they were so baffled by the concept that they just assumed it was smarter than it was without really paying attention.
Same shit happened with MGS 4 and Fallout 3
Forgetting the story, they ruined the gameplay by making it a two weapon limit and making enemies generally spongey.
>>724705701Clockwork revolution will come out before jewdas and bioshock 4.
It was always bad, you don't actually listen to critics and influencer reviewers do you? You do have critical thinking skills, right?
>>724701092In retrospect the initial reception this game got is so fucking confusing looking back. The story's a complete mess but that's what it got praised for the most, while the gameplay is just mediocre to downright frustrating. Fuck that fucking ghost boss you had to fight three times Jesus Christ.
I liked it, but I never played it on release, actually I never played ANY bioshit during release it took me about 13 years to play these games (played the switch collection) and it was amazing and it still is, actually, it's even better now. >>724705701>Ken Levine says he's working on an epic new game that lets him try something new>Release trailer>It's just another BioshockI'm still mad

I'm still mad that they hinted at a Songbird fight the entire game and then the game just ends after an enemy rush.
>>724706198Instead you get a shitty time ghost fight
>>724706076>>elizabeth is an extroverted disney princess seconds after escaping her cruel caged lifewhat did you expect her to act like? brooding and monologuing about being locked up? Then you would have just bitched about her being insufferable. the extroverted disney princess act made sense.
>>724706076>and major mary sue throughout the entire gameLike when? Bruh Mary Sue has a meaning. She needs Booker 99% of the time.
I liked the gifs of Elizabeth getting owed by dogs.
>>724706526What does she owe them?
>>724703806I thought people hated on Bioshock for being a less interesting (but better looking) SS2. Which it was. Bioshock in general is baby's first imsim. Less interesting writing and gameplay than something like Deus Ex, but consolefags never played anything like it before so they jizzed over how "smart" and "deep" it was.
>>724706285Shouldn't she just be extremely socially awkward since she's never really interacted with people and only knows about them through books?
>>724706285She doesn't even keep up the Disney princess act though, that's basically for one scene. She's all over the place because she's meant to be a one size fits all character for any situation you put her in. She's shy and flighty when you first find her in the tower, then she's dancing with complete strangers in the street while not really caring about whether or not you survived the fall, then she's bitchy, then she's contemplative, then she's basically a god who acts more like a weird robot. Then sure have her be a femme fatale and the savior of the human race in the DLC's, why the fuck not. What can't she do?
>>724706696There could've been a scene where Booker maybe decides to get her to interact with people, and at first she's shy, but eventually gets used to it and likes it, but that would require Levine to be less evil.
>>724703285I don't have fun when my brain is off. That's for people who get a headache when they think, aka low IQ retards.
>>724706778Why doesn't she just give them kibble as payment?
>>724701092Consoooomer consensus: hot girl with british sex voiceCritic consensus: tribesmanIt took a while for both parties to look past those initial first impression hurdles
>>724706696if she's naturally an extrovert, being a shut-in won't take that away. Which might be the disconnect people have. It truly is a switch for some people.
>>724701092It's really simple: Every few years, gamers/games journalists get really self-conscious that they are playing/writing about things that are typically lowbrow, and so will massively boost for some game as super high art so they can feel good about playing serious literature. The issue is, these games are usually midwit-tier pseud affairs, so with time people realize the forced narrative they pushed. This happens because people are too self conscious and refuse to just accept they like playing something that's fun or that they like something kinda silly.See also: Every Kojima game ever, Neil Druckman stuff, David Cage games, etc.
>>724703583>Here the asspull is time travel can change SOME things but others are constants in all universesThis was retarded in Steins;Gate too, it's just a shame that such bullshit nonsense got copied over here. I think the worst time travel writing is the type that just has no consistency and does whatever thing is convenient for the story at any given time.
>>724703090
>>724706668It's a general problem with consoles. Every genre gets completely dumbed down when it's ported to consoles. FPS, Strategy, RPG, Sim, just to name a few.Console games are designed in a way that absolute retards are able to enjoy them.
>>724701092>Why was there such a mass psychosis regarding this game that has since flipped back the other way? It's simple, the hype. People were craving a new Bioshock game for a long-ass time, and that one had flashy and refined visuals as well as the cutest "best sidekick ever" that helped you in combat, which wasn't common. That along with the convoluted story that looks more deep than it is built up a preception of the gamel being any good, again influenced by the lack of a new Bioshock game for a while. Then time moved on and the rose colored glasses faded to reveal what the game really was, a mediocre FPS with little substance to it. It's all about the hype train. All aboard! Choo choo!
>>724701092I knew it was shit on release and I was in high school. Get fucked, reviewers.
>>724705761The best thing is when you finally find the weapon manufacturing stuff they realize that they have no way of bringing it back to the universe where they made the deal.It is an idiotic plot.
>>724702184Infinite multiverse is always, ALWAYS bullshit. The moment any story involves multiverse like that I just zone out, it's over. If you want to introduce a singular alternate universe that exists for a specific reason, sure, that might be interesting, but when it's supposed to be infinite it's always a holy mess. Same for time travel. Paradoxes, jumping between 10000 timelines, gathering multiple of the same character from different timelines, "well what if you just went to timeline X at point Y and...", all bullshit.
>>724701092Dishonest paid journalists and the normies who follow their "critique" and don't look into anything beyond the bit of the game in their face letting them do actiony things. Also the same people who, like Levine himself, see this universe time traveling kind of stuff with zero regard and go "Wow, so deep" because they don't understand it. Normies just care for the fotm new thing being paraded around, and people who pay attention see how it started off bad or got worse from initial points.
>>724707075you have no fucking clue what you are talking about
>>724707138Except for stuff like fighting games and casual platformers like silksong. Then the dumb pc masses have to find mods that make games easier, savescum and use macros for basic motion/45° inputs that are simply "too hard"
>>724707075I don't think that someone who never had a single social interaction in their entire lives and spent their formative years doing nothing but reading books alone would be an extrovert anon. I think they'd be awkward as all getup.
>>724706921That's my job.
>>724701092It had the aesthetic of old racist political cartoons so reviewers put on their high IQ hats and pretended the game was making some kind of statement on humanity and U.S culture, but it was just literal set dressing for a nonsensical plot.
>>724701092This is historical revision. The hype disappeared immediately on release and the game was criticized immediately. No idea what you are aiming to do with this bullshit.
>>724703806>>724708237/v/ isn't the public at large, those were minority opinions for years. OP even outright mentions that a lot of modern criticisms came from older ones that were seen as contrarians at the time.
>>724707127I should give Prey 2017 a retry in the future. I initially bounced off it pretty badly since I didn't have the right mindset for it, but maybe I'll enjoy it more with more of a problem solving mindset than a "no thoughts, head empty" one
This game had so much hype, some faggots here rushed to the end of the game to see the ending - then started spamming the ending on trailers and random gaming-related videos/threads here just to troll people. I'm still seething at those losers a decade later. Fuck you faggots.
>>724707268I love how Booker says "Ah, we didn't think this through" after brutally slaughtering hundreds of cops just to get to the room with the tools in it. And then the idiocy of "Oh, if the tools aren't here in the other universe, they must be back at the shop".BioShock 1 and 2 aren't incredibly well-written or anything, but they look like literary masterworks next to Infinite. Just bafflingly stupid.
>>724707075Anon, think about how socially awkward the average /v/ browser is because all they do is play video games when they're not wageslavingThose people get more social interaction than Elizabeth had before meeting BookerThey just wanted her to be le cute Disney princess and didn't care how they got there
