Sonic Heroes has to be beaten 4 times and one of those is a collectathon despite the levels being linear corridors. Sonic Team instilled a Pavlovian disgust response to any character who is not a fast hedgehog, and then reinforced it by making Sonic Generations, maybe the best game in the series and one where you exclusively play as Sonic.

This experience changes the android completely.Idk where I'm going with this but usually in my mind, he's a ally that helps Sonic and his friends in some situations and sometimes hangs out with them.
