But GT4 saved my life when I had a mechanical failure on a long steep mountain road. And one day I hope to finish a rally in Richard Burns rally.

Any more details to this story?

I just play FH5, FM7, TXR2025, and EAWRC with my controller. I've got a shitty cheapo non-DD wheel but I haven't bothered setting it up.
Every time I try playing a game that's closer to being a sim (PC2 or AMS2 for example) I get filtered out, so I just stick to my baby games.
>>
most of the people here seem to have one specific idea of how a racing game should work and everything deviating from that is bad
I've been playing loads of gran turismo 7. just hit collector level 49

I don't have a good pc right now so I dld NFS underground.

I've always been interested in playing Forza Horizon, or something similar, but previously never had the right console or hardware to do it. How fun are those games online? Can you have enjoyable races, or is it just tryhards and cheaters?

You're gonna get split answers here.

I think Crew 2 has an incredible map.
I think Crew: Motorfest has the better driving

I think they are both worth playing.

>Is there a reason to play The Crew over something like FH?
I haven't play Forza yet, probably will when it goes on sale again. From what I understand Crew: Motorfest is very similar to Forza.

Racing and driving games are my favourite genre. I played through Test Drive Unlimited 2 last year on my PS3 and cranked a lot of Grid Autosport, MotoGP 14, F1 2014, Need For Speed Pro Street and Shift/Shift 2 and I’ve clocked plenty of hours on Gran Turismo 5 & 6.
I’m about to buy an Xbox and get a bunch of racing games.

I like a good cockpit cam. My favourite one is the dash cam on Grid Autosport. It’s just inside the windscreen. I don’t like seeing the wheel when playing with a controller because you can see all those twitchy micro adjustments.
>>
>>724734815
Forza Horizon 6 is going to be in Japan.
>>
>>724735103
TXR25 is the fastest/most arcadey game in the series so far, whether you enjoy that is up to you to find out but I don't think anyone particularly liked TXR3's driving on ice handling
Battles last for a very short duration, especially in endgame where they might end in seconds compared to 3 where they went for 30-40 seconds minimum in most cases
Less cars than 3 and no foreign manufacturers (the Porsche pic is modded) but a lot of cars in 3 didn't have any body customization either
Only the Toyko highway is preset, no Nagoya and Osaka
It's pretty much a direct sequel to ITC, both in story and gameplay (except ITC has better handling than TXR25, the best in the series in my opinion), talking to people in PAs is very similar how it was in ITC
>>
How do I corner in TXR25? Drifting is weird as fuck and maybe it's because I'm just starting out but slowing to corner sucks too because the brakes kinda suck.
>>
>>724735337
>twitchy micro adjustments
I think they somehow figured that issue out for Crew: Motorfest.

In the Crew 2, they made the steering wheel cam incredibly stiff which also wan't very good (still better compared to the twitchiness), but I think they actually figured out the cockpit steering wheel cam for Motorfest.

Manual is far better. Even if you have every other assist on manual is so much better. Braking performance and corner performance improves. You can shift down to aid braking and you can take a corner in a lower gear to get less drive and turn tighter.
Autobabys don’t deserve to play proper racing games.

If you guys do get either the Crew 2 or Crew Motorfest, my one piece of advice is to turn off UI sounds (pic related)

If you just want to drive around and be immersed there’s this annoying thing in the open world where your map starts to ping and make noises when you are near a loot crate type reward. Just turn off UI sounds and you’ll never hear it.
>>

Nice. GT4 is a bit too arcadey to really be called a proper racing sim but one thing it does very well is portraying real driving dynamics like weight transfer, under/oversteer and corner camber. I guess that's why they call it "the real *driving* simulator" in the tag line.

shit on me all you want, i'm only into arcade racers. i've tried simulator type racers many times and i've always been filtered by not being able to feel the car like in real life. keep driving into walls because i can't tell when my tires lose traction.
recently got a vr headset, probably gonna give it another go soon.
>>
>>724760496
They can call it whatever they want. A bunch of people in my position have died on that mountain, and I'm not one of them. At best I would have had a controlled rub and crash into the hillside or rail without it, possibly after catching the brakes on fire or melting the tires. And I claim a critical difference was working my ass for, and not even getting all golds on GT3 and 4 license exams.

Being able to feel when I had traction, and the exact point I lost it. NOT overreacting when I lost traction, and easing back into it. Braking unweighted just stops the wheels and NOT the car, and do NOT just stomp the brake or you spin when you get traction back.. Remembering that when I've lost traction, that my car orientation, my wheel direction, and my motion were not going the same way, and SLOWLY rotating a little.
>>
>>724765703

>weight transfer/trail braking

I distinctly remember thinking. Oh shit. I don't have enough brakes to stop. If I jam too hard my brakes will fade, and I can't steer and I go straight off the cliff, like some of the tire tracks visible on the mountain clearly did. Where the fuck do I spend my brake power?

I hit the brakes hard on the straight going into key turns, and release it steadily while turning. to shift weight to my front wheels so I could turn harder. Not exactly textbook trail braking, but close enough for a multiple hairpin section.

I am sure there's a license test about that. I think A2 or IA3, where you have to time your brakes going in or you just ridiculously fly off the track. Thinking further, the one license test in my mind I was feeling the most was the GT3 one I never got gold on, full lap in a red skyline. I think B final?

And at the bottom of the hill I distinctly remember the smell and maybe smoke from hot brakes and tires, and I could hear my pulse in my ears. The hot night full of crickets, and the moon. And I was so stressed I was halucinating, hearing this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BDasfJ9dk8

I also remember on the way down seeing a "runaway truck stop ramp" and thinking "i'm not a truck, I can't use that", and then thinking "i'm a complete fucking dumbass" after I had stopped.

I remember my parents being very anti video game. I'm not a car person. I'm not a great player. I still play racing games, and I'm bottom 10 percent in skill anytime I've been on an online leaderboard and am frequently the very last person there. And I'm very happy with that.

I also still fuck up the laguna seca corkscrew at least 1 time out of 10

When you play a sim racer you need to actually slow down for corners and use the racing line. You can’t just come up to a turn at full tilt, slam on the brakes and enter the corner on the apex and expect to make the corner.
You need to clip your apexes and use the racing line and find brake markers. Start at the 200 board then start shortening up the distance.
