Might blow your mind, but PC gamers used to PAY to actually play Playstation games on their toasters.
>>
>>724754903
It was dogshit emulation, too.
>>
>>724754963
No it wasn't
I played Hercules, Tomba 2 and Speed Racer on it and they ran perfectly.

Advertising piracy in gaming magazines was pretty ballsy.

You can get them for stupid cheap these days.
>>

I love how when modern pczoomies larp as oldfags they pretend the pc had games back then. All they had was the sim kek
>>
The interesting thing about Bleem! Is that back then it was Sony the litigious bastards that all gamers hated because they were extremely anti emulator. They didn't even beat Bleem! but they force it to shut down because of all the lawsuits. Funny how now it's Nintendo the ones doing it and their simps will defend it
>>
> To allow for full-speed emulation on lower-end computers of what was at the time a current generation console, the authors coded Bleem! in assembly. This allowed them to create precise optimizations. Unlike Connectix's commercial Virtual Game Station, it made use of a PC's 3D graphics hardware for rendering, allowing for enhanced resolutions and filtered textures not possible in real-time software rendering of the time.

Actual gigachads

What? Never
>>
>>724755729
It's not piracy when you need the actual game disc to run it.
>>
>>724755424
yeah, but now i can just play ps1 games on my pc even better than the dreamcast could.
>>
>>724755589
It was always Nintendo even in the 90s, they've always been hard-core anti-emulation. Sony only went nuts over Bleem because it was being sold at Gamestop, advertised in EGM and played current-gen games at the time.
>>
>>724755424
Couldn't the dreamcast play ripped CD-roms by default? Why not just burn a disc?
>>
>>724755589
>Funny how now it's Nintendo the ones doing it and their simps will defend it
Nintendo lost two generations in a row because they were scared of piracy so they cucked the gamers with n64 cartridges and gamecube mini discs

You sound brown.
>>
>>724755929
Yes and no. Dreamcast used GD-ROMs which were a bit larger than a standard CD-R, so the images had to be compressed to be playable.

Not just PlayStation.
>>
>>724754903
>Connectix VGS was the original reverse-engineered PlayStation emulator
>Connectix VGS was the one that fought Sony and won
>Bleem gets all the credit
Is this just YouTube brainrot, or because Bleem had a wider audience?
>>
>You do absolutely nothing wrong nor illegal
>Another company comes along and sues you claiming you have wronged them
>You win in court but ultimately go out of business because of legal fees
What is this strategy called? And how is it that they weren't able to recoup legal fees from Sony?
>>
>>724756569
"Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation" but this wasn't one because it was alleged copyright violation
>>
>>724755235
i know this is tendie bait but do you realize 90% of the emulators support playing the game off of the computer's CD rom drive?
>>
>>724756838
The WHAT drive now?
Go to bed grandpa.
>>
>>724756569
It kind of falls under the patent trolling umbrella. Its the same thing games workshop did to chapter house
>>
>>724755048
Dude, you could've just downloaded them from dcisozone and burned them onto a blank CD. I did that with GT2, and years later, I threw the CD into my modded PS2, and it actually recognized it.

There was also a time when the internet wasn't ubiquitous and buying physical media was the only way to get software onto their computer for many people.

Android people still do that.
