>this board say Sony would be bankrupt for 20 years>Sony keeps winning Why is this board always wrong? Just contrarianism to be an outsider?
>>724762850because of youyou are the reasonyou stink
>>724762850is that adjusted for inflation? If not, he $3b for PS1 is more like $7.5 billion now
>profit by generation*>*including previous generation console sales, refurbished/returned systems, and microtransactions/cosmetics
>>724763430So like every generation, your point?
>>724763529no not like every generation, only sony lies like this
>>724763562Ps1 games were sold during ps2 era, whats the lie exactly. They tell you plain and simple how much they made this time frame
>>724763672>ps5 generation>includes PS4 saleshmmmm
I'm surprised the first playstation did so well compared to the restI'm also surprised that ps5 is the most profitable considering that it has almost zero video gamesps3 being negative in profit is actually pretty interesting cause I didn't know it did that badly. they really fucked themselves with the 599 US Dollars thing huh?
>>724763701>ps4 generation >includes ps3 sales>ps3 generation >includes ps2 sales
>>724763712>I'm also surprised that ps5 is the most profitable considering that it has almost zero video gamesMultiplatform games are games PC autst, not everyone wants to spend $2000
>>724764016>Multiplatform games are games
>>724762850I still for this day have never wanted to play a playstation game. Maybe uncharted and warzon when I was a kid. But all the walking Sims with the tranny writers I'm good.
>Microsoft paid 5x the lifetime profits of Playstation for Activision alone
>>724764436They dont pay the entire amount at once to acquire a studio
>>724764436And they still lost LMAO
>>724762850Adjusted for inflation is the Per capita for gamers.
>>724762850Sony isn't going out of business, but I don't see there being a PS7. I can see Sony going third party. The future is Nintendo and Valve.
>>724763701Yes? if you weren't retarded you would know this is absolutely normal and the PS3's losses were also in part due to PS2 & PSP piracy, which those 2 consoles sold more units combined from 2006 to 2013 than the PS3 itself
>>724763712>the most profitable considering that it has almost zero video gamesI would agree if I was a brainrotted retard
>>724762850>30% of income is from dlc's and lootboxes and 14% from network services aka ps plus nice console fag
>>724766423No, the future is Microsoft completely dominating with windows.
>>724762850>movieshit lost them billions of dollars yet they pushed harder on it anywayI wish I could be rewarded for being retarded like Sony does.
>>724762850$1 in 2025 is not $1 in 2000
>Sony NumbersYeah you might as well read the stars
>>724772208>Microsoft>dominating anythinglmao, the future is Valve and Nintendo. Microsoft and Sony will only exist as third parties
>>724762850>PS3: -4B dollars>PS2 making less than PS1What a depressing image.
>>724762850Where did all the people go that said no games equals failure?
Multiplatform games are not gamesIf I can play the game on your platform, or on another platform but with higher resolution and fps, why wouldn't I go with the latter?
>>724775393Because you like many people can't afford it.
>>724775393Yeah and you really could ask yourself why people are going to buy multiplats on a Shitch Poo to be played while docked instead of just playing them on PS5 or PC.
>>724764436And now it's the first publisher by revenue. Please, don't do business ever and keep playing sonyslop
>>724762850Hourly reminder:Sony invented the "PS generation sales" category to hide PS5 not doing very well. What the "PS5 generation" means is "Total Sony Interactive Entertainment profits since 2020" (unclear if it's since 01.01.2020 or the moment when PS5 launched). It includes everything, not only PS5 sales: PS4 hardware and software sales, PSVR hardware and software sales, PSVR2 hardware and software sales, PS Portal sales, controller sales, Xbox ports sales, Switch ports sales, Steam ports sales, 30 years of catalogue sales on PS Store, Fortnite and Genshin (and other F2P) microtransactions, PS themed shoes sales, PS themed speakers sales, PS themed $110 wooden blocks sales, $325 picture books sales etc.Having to rely this much on profits outside of PS5 isn't a good sign for the future of Sony's console hardware.
>>724775896That’s literally what Nintendo counts into their numbers too as a whole. Same as Xbox or Microsoft.
>>724764016>Multiplatform games are gamesYeah but they're games you don't need Playstation to play.
>>724776041And they’re also games that you don’t need a pc to play either, so what’s your point?
None of it fucking matters, because everyone with half a brain can see that the console market as a whole is dying. The big jumps in game size and fidelity you used to see between generations just aren't there anymore, exclusives that move platforms are a thing of the past, all the big iconic platform-defining franchises are dead, efforts to revive them fail, efforts to establish new ones fail, and eventually the well of remasters and remakes is going to dry up. Consoles are only going to get more expensive due to the underlying hardware getting more expensive, libraries are going to get more homogenous due to releasing exclusives just not being profitable anymore, and on the technical front there's really no reason to buy a newer console anymore. Hell, the PS4 to PS5 era was barely even a jump. PS5 to a potential PS6 won't be noticeable anymore due to graphics more or less stagnating since then.Nintendo, for all their many, many, many faults, is the only company to do it right. Rather than just sell a shitty PC, they sell consoles with a gimmick, and move them with a whole library of first-party exclusives. If there's a strategy to keep your platform relevant in an increasingly homogenous market, that's it.
>>724776250So consoles are going up, but PCs are going up even more. That does not sound too great for PC for gaming either.Ps5s strength was in fact being a cheap pc, that’s partially why it sold 80m units without that many games.
>>724776339The problem is that any PC you have now is still going to be good for the next "generation" of games, but your console won't on account of having to sell a new generation of hardware.
That PS3 era though.I thought ps3 turned itself around after that reveal show?
>>724776385Devs are rapidly increasing system requirements for no reason at all but to force you to upgrade so this isn't very true any more
>>724776385A 1000 dollar pc is not going to be relevant for the next 7 years. A 1500 dollar pc won’t be either. Games are getting increasingly unoptimized and graphically pushing, and somehow they’re running close enough to 5090s as they are on current gen consoles.
>>724776485>>724776513I'm playing current-gen games on a 3070Ti. If you don't chase meme trends like raytracing, 4k gaming, and who knows what the fuck else, and if you don't HAVE to max out every setting for shit you don't even notice, your hardware lasts a lot longer than devs would like you to believe. Longer still if you just refuse to play unoptimized slop, but that's neither here nor there.
>>724776645Isn’t the 3070ti like an 8gb card?
>>724776829Yeah, so?
>>724776910I thought 8gb cards are done for these days. People generally want a minimum of 16gb.
It's funny as fuck that MS had Sony by the balls mid 7th gen and then starting endlessly shooting themselves in the footThey had a chance to actually gain a foothold in Japan too and didn't even bother
>>724763319
>>724775393$500 entry fee
>>724776930What people want and what you actually need are two different things. If you want 60 frames, most PS5 games don't even render at more than 1080p natively before getting upscaled. And a 3070 can easily do 1080p at 120 even on modern games if you're willing to forego ray tracing, which most games don't even do well enough to justify the performance hit. 1440p at 60 frames is also pretty achievable. All a matter of "am I willing to dump my performance/crutch on frame gen for a minor visual difference that doesn't matter outside of screenshots?".
>>724762850Why is PS2 lower than PS1? Where are PSP and Vita?
>>724776930>I thought 8gb cards are done for these daysYou thought wrong
>>724777203The ps5 runs death stranding 2 at 1440p at 60fps with amazing fidelity and also runs at 120fps in multiplayer games at least at 1080p before being upscaled.
>>724776226>so what’s your point? That platforms that aren't Playstation offer things Playstation does not. A Playstation can play multiplatform games, yes. But you don't need a Playstation to play multiplatform games. And thus you don't need a Playstation. And other platforms offer things Playstation does not. Exclusive games. Handheld play. Or in the case of PC, countless of unique software tools or optional hardware additions. But Playstation doesn't offer anything unique. All it offers are multiplatform games that we know you don't need Playstation for. So what's your point?
>>724777485So? I own a PS5 and a PC, and I know which one runs and looks better, even with my modest, almost 5 year old GPU. Hell, just recently I bought Nightreign for both platforms, because I have two friend groups I play it with on those platforms, and it runs like absolute dogshit on PS5, but smoothly on PC. Not exactly inspiring me to shell out for a potential PS6.
>>724777560The problem with pc is that it costs thousands just to play console ports. Also not everybody wants to game on a pc. You can’t just turn on a pc while sitting on the couch, effortlessly navigate through the ecosystem and play a game without tinkering or waiting for bullshit shaders. On top of that hackers are prevalent in damn near every multiplayer game and they fuck with your games and your personal shit too.
>>724777613How does it run like shit on ps5? Isn’t it a dynamic 4k at 60fps mostly?
>>724777841>muh couchAll you need is a $15 hdmi cable
>>724777890I have no idea what it renders at, but there's some pretty bad input lag, frame drops, and stuttering. It runs at what looks like 50-60 most of the time, but it'll drop to 30-40 whenever something visually intense happens, which is also when you least want it to drop. The difference in performance and play experience between the two platforms is night and day.
>>724777976You just ignored everything else>>724778035You’re still not getting over 60 on pc. Does your pc run it at 4k either?
>>724777841>You can’t just turn on a pc while sitting on the couchI haven't had my PC at a desk in 15 years.
>>724778483>>724777976Yeah tell that to everyone who has a pc far off in another part of the house and uses them for entirely different things
>>724762850The PS2 was sold at a loss just like the PS3. But the PS3 was a particularly bad case because it costed Sony $800 to make a console that was being sold for $600 and mostly because of the Bluray drive. Same with the PS2, the DVD was the most expensive component. Both the PS2 and PS3 were the least expensive DVD/Bluray players in their times. To that add high R&D costs due to both both having exotic and novel hardware.PS1, PS4, PS5 were never sold at a loss. Another thing these share in common is that they are dedicated gaming machines with the most straight forward, basic and simplistic hardware. Everything in them served only 1 purpose, to play games at the best possible. The PS2 and PS3 were complicated and full of bottlenecks. Bandwidth bottlenecks, Gpu bottlenecks, complicated architecture... Meanwhile the PS1, PS4 and PS5 have no bottlenecks. The most perfect gaming machines/game consoles that ever existed. Mark Cerny is the best thing to happen to Sony in recent years, although he did fuck up with the PS5 Pro. That has been his only mistake so far but will still prove fruitful in the creation of the PS6. Instead of going for raw power and Tflops he and AMD are going all in for efficiency this time around. Creating specific hardware and systems to tap into more resources from less.
Paid online was a good idea.
>>724762850I'm not really interested in cheering on corporations and celebrating how much money they make. my personal experiences with individual games are what matter.
>>724763319No, also Sony is lumping in PS4, Mobile, and PC profits after 2019 into the PS5 generation in order to reach that $13B. Don't forget that Fate GO is technically part of Playstation.
they won when PSN+ was accepted
>>724762850>most profitable generation ever>weakest exclusive lineup in history of the brandUhhh exclusivebros...? I thought exclusives were the only thing that sold consoles...?
