Why do normies hate character action so much
>>
>>724772605
We love them but only the good ones like sekiro and stellar blade
>>
They don't
>>
>>724772605

>>
>>724772605
Nier automata is the only good game there
>>
>>724772643
>sekiro
>character action game
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>
>>724772692
Better than you shitty juggleslop and also a goty
>>
>>724772605
I suspect the average person likes the idea of character action right up until they have to play it. Then they realise that they either have to try hard in order to beat it and make the combat look as good as it's supposed to or settle for playing the easiest difficulties and accept that the game is mostly being played for them. And when you do the latter all the spectacle loses the appeal and you're left with a game that doesn't really offer anything, since stylish action is invariably the biggest selling point of any given CAG. It's an inherently alienating and niche genre because you can't lower the bar to entry witout completely devaluing it in the process.
>>
>>724772783
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Nothing about Shitkiro is an "action game".
>the "action" centers around pressing the block button
>there's no combos
>YOU NEED TO GO INTO A MENU TO USE A DIFFERENT MOVE
XDDD
>>
You've made this thread already
>>
>>724772783
Even if that were true it still isn't a character action game, so that's a moot point.

How fucking hard was to make Kasumi or Ayame the secondary protagonist rather than some random fucktoy?
>>

This would not have boosted sales

Okay, Marie Rose.
>>

it's really sad that this entire genre is going extinct

We must be better than that. We must evolve.
>>
>>724773229
Still no
You need to hire some eceleb or cook some artificial controversy if you want to sell your game in 2025
>>
>>724772605
Most of them have shit enemy design.
>>
>>724772605
Even normalfags can recognize that these games are just combo simulators.
>>
>>724772605
>Why do normies hate character action so much
Unfortunately it has become a dated genre with no place in modern vidya.
The price increase to 70-80 sometimes even 90$ bucks have murdered the genre.
Normalfags don't want to buy a 12-15 hour game for that much money, and though these games are meant to be replayed they are not going to play more than once.
So we are at an impasse, because sure you could try to extend the playtime with all these arbitrary semi-open world, rpg, side-quest and various fluff mechanics, but if you do that then the action will take a toll and it wont be as good anymore which destroys the point and appeal of these games in the first place.
The modern industry is simply not a place where pure action games like this can survive.
Of course DMC6 will happen and probably do very well since 5 just sold way too much for it not to happen, but this will be a rare exception.
We will only see indie developers takes on this genre going forward, but this genre is just not something that can excel without a good medium sized team to pour their passions into. The thought put into the battle system, the polish, animations, mechanics and so on is not feasible to be done by small 1-5 man indie teams. They will come out and some may even end up being quite good, but they will never be able to reach the peaks of the genre.
>>
>>724773876
I hate normies bros
>>
>>724772605
Well anon, 10 out of 12 of these is complete slop for normalfag retards so that's a pretty silly question
>>
>>724772605
The average person wants to actually engage with the enemies, not juggle helpless sandbags.
>>
>>724774358
>>724774414
Kill yourself zoomers
>>
>>724773813
If it goes extinct it will be because no one can create a compelling character and scenario to put them through anymore. It will not be due to any problems inherent in thebgenre itself.
>>
>>724774583
This. It's difficult to create good, deep character action. Even more so since the genre is relatively niche so there's less incentive. Much simpler to slap a stamina system on a slow arpg and call it a day.
>>
>>724772605
ARPGs are simply better. None of the games in that pic even come close to Nioh. Even something like Lies of P is better.
>>
>>724774752
What makes nioh fun is inspiration from cags, not inspiration from soulsslop.
>>
>>724772605
Complexity for complexity's sake: the genre
>>
Probably because they're just repetitive button mashers.

t. play most of the games there
>>
>>724774810
Can you elaborate?
>>
>>724774221
Aren't Nioh 1/2 basically long af CAG's? They're still not that popular, too many things to learn and the games are rather repetitive
>>
>>724774752
Nioh is a great game but we also need traditional action games like ng and dmc
And nioh would not exist without ninja gaiden
>>
>>724774861
Kys souls slopper
>>
>>724774926
Kinda
>>
>>724774926
Eh not really. I do love those games, but they are just action-rpgs with really good combat that are deeper than most but that's just because people got so used to the super simple souls combat that it seems beyond the norm.
>>
Combos are not good game design.

I've only recently gotten into these games after missing out on them my whole life thinking it was just 'combo slop' and it's the most fun subgenre of games I've played. Genuinely enthralled by all these games and I haven't even played half of them yet.
>>
>>724772605
People want enemies that are actually threatening, not just combo fodder.
>>
>>724775418
Play any non dmc cag then
>>
>>724772605
normies can't handle combo strings, it's the same reason why the average gamer will never touch a fighting game. because when they do it's just button mash until they win. you have to forcibly slow the retard down, then telegraph big massive damage enemy swings to communicate "hey you're gonna get flattened by this big crushing attack if you don't do something". that was what souls did. slow everything waaay down. any game that requires learning or god forbid reading is automatically out

watch asmongold play any game that involves more than 2 buttons and you'll see how the average gamer ends up playing action games

its the same with RTS games, they had to be nerfed to mobas then mobas had to be dumbed down even further. learning what each unit does in an RTS? forget about it.

modern design means anyone can pick up your game and immediately play it, they don't need to learn how to play because that gets in the way of them progressing. then you drip feed them progression, make them learn patterns to give the illusion of difficulty, level them up so you give over some level of difficulty control to the player even though the game isn't an RPG in any sense. bam, instant success because everyone gets a sense of achievement from playing.

Kys souls slopper
>>
>>724773184
not if they kept her in a hero-shooter toned-down costume. She will likely be DLC maybe.

All they had to do was not be woke, but that can't happen when they took ESG pledge and have Microsoft as the publisher. To forstall, the fully clothed shibari is still safe horny and the most Microsoft would allow.
>>
>>724775561
If you know, what's a decent recent fighter to get into? Last one I played was tekken 8 on release and I was just underwhelmed. Before that i played a bunch of doa5. What do people play these days that's fun, balanced and emphasises fundamentals.

How is anything in ng4 woke kek
>>
>>724772605
people only think they like this shit for the same reason hazing works, "how could it not be worth it in the end when it was such a pain in the ass"
>>
>>724775823
they toned down the women.
>>
>>724775838
Kys retard
>>
>>724774926
no, they're soulslikes
the only really caggy thing about them is that the medium/low stance dodge has poor iframes but fast movement, which means you generally use it like a CAG get-out-of-the-way dodge instead of a souls invincible dodge.
>>
>>724775852
Any woman on screen has fat titties on show and there's like 2 women total in game. Unless you redefine the word there's nothing close to woke in this.
>>
>>724773947
Marie Rose would have been controversial. Especially if you add heavy amounts of ryona and fanservice.

guilty gear ive heard is fun, but ive heard there's issues with balance, there's virtua fighter if you want something more serious but it's been a while since ive dived into fighting games

I was looking at the new virtua fighter footage and it looks promising. I never got into the series myself but it inspiring 3d beat em ups and doa is encouraging. I'll see what people say about the current one on steam

I've played
>NG1-4 (black, sigma 1, 2, RE, 4).
This is probably the series I've spent the most time with. Every one of these feels like discovering digital treasure, even RE. Currently binging 4.
>DMC1
Incredibly fun and I love the atmosphere. Beat this in one afternoon and will be playing the rest of the series
>vanquish
Haven't finished but very very fun when you start breaking the game
>bayonetta
Only briefly played, very fun
>god hand
Finished, incredibly fun. Will come back to
>MGRR
Very short and sweet. Feels underwhelming to come back to due to how few tools raiden has imo.

Got a ton lined up I'll play, just need to find the time
>>
There's no grinding, only learning and getting better. The most popular genres are rpg lite and roguelites for a reason. They preclude the need to understand the game and allow for the player to circumvent challenge through numerical superiority, while those people tend not to realize they only won because of these mechanics and still feel gratification.
