ITT complain about video game artstyle and graphics related things that only you care about

I think some things don't look best when they're made more detailed and higher definition
The characters in Sonic games, especially the humans, looked best in low poly and they just don't look good anymore no matter if you make them realistic or cartoony, the former is weird and uncanny and the latter is too hyuckhyuck DisneyPixar esque looking if you get me

a cartoony design like the kind sonic characters have can only work with the ambiguity a cartoon

i guess that's why there are no humans in frontiers so the look is heavily focused on enemies and ambientance but still the models of Sage and Eggman looks extremely shitty with literally all clothes and accessory with the same plastic textures

i dont care for much anything regarding how anime games do their plotlines (or usually gameplay)
i just really dont like seeing prominent lips on a woman, it looks repulsive (irl too when they've got lipstick or naturally large ones), so a lotta non-anime artstyles are an immediate turn-off

I agree, I always thought Oblivion was the stinkiest looking Skyrim game, but it has a charm that the remake just doesn't

Also not an art thing but I'll say something probably controversial, even if I know it's only controversial by association with culture war nonsense - I actually like the idea of making the sex based differences into differences based on place of origin, it makes the races and world feel interesting, I love when fiction delves into things like geographical location and their affect on fantasy races and cultures similarly to how they're affected in our world

It really pisses me off when retro or PS1 aesthetic games have interface elements that would be completely unreadable at an actual 480i or 240p resolution. I'm talking text that's too small or like one pixel wide frame borders. If you want to convince me that your shitty horror game was some lost PS1 game then your font better be big and chunky or it completely takes me out of it.

i wanna see more games do retro stuff in more creative ways than just stinky graphics and a CRT filter
also i wish more meta horror and stuff did more interesting things than just screen tearing, loud noises and "ooooh what if the boogeyman in your save file knows your computer na- er, I mean, your reeeeeal name, that's creeeepy right, CocaineGoblin54?"
shit like having things that look like visual glitches but are actually real monsters that change shape based on how you look at them, the game remembering where you looked, for how long and even from what angle and altering its visuals and even its actual physical world accordingly are things we can do now, hell, some games even utilize it but it's so overlooked

the things we can do with vidya is supposed to get better and more impressive all the time and somehow we still haven't progressed past games writing scary text documents onto your desktop, there's so much potential for cool next level gaming stuff but nobody other than some passionate indie devs wants to try because they'd rather be funnel money into magical AI picture making machines than actually working to create incredible and impressive manmade things with the tech we have available to us now
imagine if Grog, instead of cooking food and moving on to baking ceramics and smelting rocks after he figured out fire, just sat there and went "uhh, Grog will just sit and wait till fire decide grow legs and go in woods and fire kill elk for Grog so Grog no have to"
