No he's talking about the different versions you can choose in the launcher. There's a legacy version which is the static universe, I think that also has old graphics, there's the modern version without the on-foot DLC and the modern version with on-foot DLC. Both share the same universe that's being updated in real time, but are completely different versions so you can't play together unless your friend with the DLC changes to the non-DLC version in the launcher

Got into it end of last year when the final thargoid titan was being fought at Earth.
It's pretty good although the on foot stuff from odessy is not all that great and it's barely utilised in the game unless you want to do the exobiology stuff to make money easy otherwise it's mostly a waste of time because everything else for it is shit. The most fun part is flying the ships around and learning their flight models especially with fa off. Then building them to suit roles you want to do exploration, combat, ect. Engineering is painful to get everything unlocked and a huge time sink probably the most tedious part other than the powerplay ranks. Personally enjoy the game for the combat and want more space battle stuff in the game like larger scale battles other than the small conflict zones I want to destroy capital ships and not have them jump out of the system and retreat.

one of my favourite games, i put almost 1k hours into Horizons on my ps4/ps5 while waiting for oddessy before they fucked us. barely touched it since they abandoned console and started giving pc new ships and all that, hurts like a mf that i wont get any of that
