I ended up playing silent hill 2 for halloween and I was pleasantly surprised to see it still being pretty good. I know the game has been talked about to death, but hey why not have a thread.I was worried its going to be a huge slog because the apartments at the start were an absolute slog of boredom and also have the stupidest "puzzle" in the entire game. But the game picks up quick and the entire hospital section was absolutely top notch. Only other time I felt a puzzle was bullshit was the music box on the fountain being hard to find, but that could just be me being blind. The combat is basic as it gets, but it doesn't feel bad because you can stomp enemies to death so it never turns into a chore. The "bosses" are just boring imho. Pyramid head had my interest even before I started playing the game because he shows up in so much other media, until you beat his first boss fight and he runs away like a little bitch. Literally lost any and all spooky factor after that for me. The atmosphere is so damn good. Going from the fog to the otherworld was just excellent. Plank is superiour to pipe in every way. I was quite annoyed by how James just refuses to comment on anything. On one side this is better from a gameplay side of the game since he mostly comments about things that you will have to interact with, on another side wanting to know more about random shit in this town and not getting anything when interacting with most things is worse for immersion, at least for me. I am not going to comment about the story since this whole thing feels so open ended and I most likely don't get any of it. Though I will say that sometimes the environment is way too on the nose, like when you fight Angelas father for the first time and the whole room is made of flesh with pistons pumping in the walls. I mean, really? Overall though great game, highly recommend it. Gonna go play the other scenario later today.
>>724783658I just replayed the original after not playing it for a couple of years, and playing the remake when it came out. It’s insane how much more padding the remake has in terms of combat. I don’t really remember thinking much about it, but holy fuck there is so much more forced combat than I actually remembered when compared to the og sh2.
>>724783851I never played the remake and I am not really planning to, but I honestly didnt think the og had much padding in terms of combat at all. Felt quite streamlined in a way.
