SH1 was designed with the idea that the good ending would be a puzzle unto itself and Toyama expected it would take players quite some time to solve (it didn't). You were essentially expected to get the bad ending the first time, but from that gain knowledge about the aglaophotis' use against Alessa and how it essentially expelled the God from her by seeing Kaufmann use it at the end (if you did the motel side quest).

From there you would piece 2 and 2 together that it was the same as the red liquid from the hospital and you could try that against other parasitically possessed things, like Cybil
