I literally don't even know any of this shitposting on the game because it took me 10 days to finish and I avoided this board because I didn't want spoilers.
I completely get why various people hate it. It ain't the first game. But I found it very fun to play and interesting.

I am a simple man. Game fun to play? Then it is a good game to me.

I pirated this game I like it solid 7/10. what I dont like but it is pretty fun is that you can unlock all the powers from all clans. the only difference between clans is the irrelevant passive perk also the dialogue options is watered down to retarded levels but on the first games aside of lore the dialogs were pretty useless to.
>>
>>724829670
It was so another soul would inhabit and then take over your body after diablerie. It was meant for a dead Sabbat, but you ate Fabien instead. Also the motivation for the big bad was love and heartbreak. Lame as fuck reveal.

The purpose of the mark was to furrow the soil, to prepare Phyre's body to be taken over by Gideon/The Gardener's soul. Gideon's body could not be fixed, and Safia was desperate to both save him, and get her revenge on Lou.

What is interesting is that on ArtStation we get a glimpse at what the original warehouse looked like (the one with the box). It was originally called Ritual Warehouse. I think the original vision was that Fabien was a random thinblood who was sacrified for some purpose. This got rewritten and Safia got changed from a fake Tremere into a real Tremere and stuff like that.

4,396 24h peak is pretty decent. I wonder how long it'll hold. They really need to move quickly and patch the game and have a massive update ready by Christmas. Preferably have a big update addressing some core issues by the end of this month. They really need to have one major update each month dealing with core criticisms. If they can do that, it'll sell. People want to buy it.
>>
>>724830137

Ventrue clan passive+cauldron of blood is the most busted thing you can do, I think. Feeding on someone affected by your Cauldron of Blood makes you take damage over time but also refills a blood pip to all of your skills each time the damage ticks, and Ventrue's defense buff after feeding reduces the damage from about 50% of your total health to like 2%.

The worst are the Toreador, though. Worst fucking way to write them, literally nothing but "art art art" to the point of being beyond retarded. Every conversation, every single line of dialogue, has to work in the "UH DID YOU KNOW TOREADORS LIKE ART" shit. Worse than Fishmalk shit.
>>
>>724830501
No, you can make targeted changes. Improve the controls so kick isn't dodge+attack for some baffling reason. Improve parrying. Streamline the Fabien sequences and make them skippable on replays. Improve performance. Then once that's done, you begin working on sidequests feeling like chores instead of interesting jobs, and stuff like that. They are going to keep working on it, and they also have story DLC coming, but they have to move quickly on the big pain points.
>>
I finished it once and it felt like playing a rushed mess. Instead of replaying it I just reinstalled Redemption. Finishing Vienna rn.
>>
>>724831094
>they have to move quickly on the big pain points.
Dude, "the big pain points" aren't things like "improving parrying" or changing how kick works. It's not even the fabien gameplay (which they already said will make optional after a playthrough). How can you even say that "when that's done, THEN you start working on sidequests"?
It's not a "month" that they can create sidequests in the spirit as they did in the first one you know, they would basically need to scrap all of the RPG-elements (which are weak), they would have to fix the whole story (your decisions have no effect, if someone is pleased/irritated to hear something, it doesn't change anything. Like fuck man, you better be trolling me

Did you play the original? You think combat had a single thing to do with the fact that it's a beloved game?
>>
>>724831526
It was a cool idea but locking you out of all your powers for the entire boss fight was really lame considering how shallow the combat already is.
>>
>>724831657
I forgot about that honestly. It felt sad playing through the game and having the constant thought, "none of this is memorable". All those places in the open world and none were used for anything. No side character has a personality that's fun or interesting. It's fun enough for what it is, but it won't be something I return back to.
>>
>>724831521
>It's not a "month" that they can create sidequests in the spirit as they did in the first one
Oh, no they're never going to do that. What I mean is taking the existing sidequests and making them actually narratively interesting. So instead of "go here, kill this guy, come back" you make it a multi-stage thing, and give the player more flexibility on whether they kill the target.

Same with package delivery. You get asked to pick up something. And you actually have to pick it up from an NPC. Who maybe wants something from you. Or maybe they get attacked, and someone steals the package and it's a chase sequence. Stuff like that.
> if someone is pleased/irritated to hear something, it doesn't change anything.
It actually changes how they talk to you in later sequences, and whether they will talk to you about their personal lives. That's why Fabien has different dialogue if you've been a complete shitter to him. But nobody is mean to him, so they all get the same dialogue.
>>

>It was a cool idea but locking you out of all your powers for the entire boss fight was really lame considering how shallow the combat already is.
You only get locked out if you refuse to tell her that art is violence and agree to play the role she wants you to play.

Also, something the Ysabella fight reveals is that most people playing have no idea how to parry. The game has a parry mechanic. Her fight is built around it. Nobody knows how to parry because that's only mentioned in the codex, not in the tutorial. Batshit decision, just like how kicking isn't mentioned in the tutorial either.
>>
>>724831627
I have been replaying it every few years since 2001 and I it never gets old for me. There is a plenty of old walkthroughs around and you can use the moddb patch to optimize it.
>>
>>724832080
I'm pretty sure they have you parry a guy in the tutorial right after they teach you how to dodge. Anyway I talked shit to her in the pre-boss conversation but I guess you have to only pick the most aggressive options to not get locked out of your disciplines.
>>
>>724831939
>No side character has a personality that's fun or interesting.
I can't think of a single character who isn't fun or interesting. Maybe you just don't like v5? There's a certain... tone to v5 VTM that is present in this game and Swansong. It's a kind of huge swerve away from the colourful punk/goth vibe of the first Bloodlines towards a kind of clinical, dry "vampires represent the mega wealthy" thing.

>>
>>724832390
What I love about Safia aside from her voice, mannerisms, the fact she's a girl, the fact she's a Tremere, the fact she likes science, is the fact she's not a very good actress and her real emotions keep poking through, and she keeps hiding her anger and despair behind flustered responses. She is practically falling apart when she hears about The Gardener but she tries to hide it.

I think it's a testament to how rich and layered every character in Bloodlines 2 is.
>>
>>724832161
I don't think the characters were dry or clinical, just boring. They tried to make them quirky, but the writing wasn't there. And vampires have always represented the wealthy. They're bloodsucking parasites.
>>
>>724832201
Yes, it was a bad werewolf game. I still liked it, I'll probably play it again some day. It's the closest to an actual WtA game we'll ever get, sadly.
>>
>>724830050
Yeah, it runs like absolute ass. It's the curse of open world games, they all have terrible memory access patterns or just too much data (I can't believe that's the case for BL2 though since it's so small). 70% load on primary CPU thread (R5 5600X), GPU running at 50% TDP (RTX 3070). Just terrible performance. Would probably do better on an X3D CPU, but this is still inexcusable.
>>724830137
Much worse. The story is actually pretty good, particularly how everything fits together. But it's not much of an open world game and even less of an RPG. At least Cyberpunk had a true open world, even if it was as shallow as GTA, and it had a real RPG system. Oh yeah, I didn't notice this that long because I used Cheat Engine, but you can only use each power once before they need to be recharged by drinking blood. Absolute trash system. They really wanted to lean into the telekinesis mechanic (which can be used without limit). Pretty much any enemy goes down quickly if you have the right gun, but you can't really take them with you because using telekinesis violates the masquerade. And you can't reload them either. And you can't single/burst fire, they just shoot repeatedly until empty. Also, there are arbitrary doors (level transitions) that prevent you from taking guns through. For all its faults and arbitrariness though, combat is actually fun. But this isn't the game Bloodlines fans wanted.

And this is the good half of the game. The bad half is Fabian Walking Simulator. God damn. I was thinking about playing it again with mods because gliding around and swooping down on and beating up mooks was kinda fun. And now I'm not.
>>
>>724832582
The writing is great, though. The average conversation is a lot better written than Bloodlines 1, where every goddamn character has the same smarmy 2003-era proto-Reddit tone.

This is the identity crisis the game has. They got worried that the game was too action oriented, so relatively late in development they bolted on these walking sim sections. Was it a mistake? Maaaaybe? A lot of people love Fabien. But it's like how the Lord of the Rings extended cuts absolutely fuck the pacing and ruin the films. They probably should have cut Fabien or SEVERELY speed up the pacing of his sequences so they're like 5 minutes long each. They smack of being DLC shoved into the main story because they absolutely are. It's Missing Link but a million times worse.

>>724832669
I thought the combat was fun until they started dumping in the fucking white freaks all over the place. Those weren't fun to fight when the whole system is built around sucking blood mid fight to top off. All your options become null, and their combat patterns are bullshit. Of course, I didn't know about the party system but idk if that would've made a difference.

>Was it a mistake
No it was definitely a mistake. And I like Fabian. But he's better as a "Johnny Silverhand"-type head-narrator than a main character (now that I think about it, I fucking hated Johnny Silverhand's sequences too, anything that takes away player agency is a bad thing unless it builds suspense, and flashbacks can't do that by definition). His sequences were SO BORING, even when his story was interesting, because there was so much pointless walking and he can't even JUMP, let alone beat up mooks.

Should've put the Nomad in the dreams, let us beat up mooks, let Fabian get flustered like, "Hey, I didn't do that! You're gonna violate the masquerade!"
>>
>>724834262
the problem is that the combat isn't interesting enough to carry the game on its own, and the gameplay outside of fabian is pretty much just combat, and without the fabian segments the game is pitifully short and repetitive. although originally DLC and marketed as "responding to fans" its clear they added the fabian segments because they were scrambling to find ways to expand the game. playtesting obviously was going south
>>
>>724832845
>>724834262
Fabians sections would have been fine if they weren't padded with so much filler.

>oh you want to use the elevator? Well first you have to complete these three chores for me

His sections do have plot relevance, but they could easily be cut down by half if they removed all the filler fetchquests.

Imagine if every Johnny flashback had you complete three fetchquests before getting to the actual meat.
>>
>>724834262
They should've made his segments contained to a small area. Why am I walking from every corner of the map for this bullshit? Do I really need to ask Silky about his faggot weekend getaways? What the fuck is Tolly doing in the middle of the park that's crawling with police and pedestrians?

Then they should have made a better game instead of shoehorning a bunch of garbage sequences in to make it longer. They could have spent their time making a more complex game system with full RPG rules. Instead they added a walking simulator that nobody wanted or asked for. The fact there is even a standardized term of ridicule for this type of gameplay indicates how unwanted it is.

Or just accept that your game is only 6 hours long and price it accordingly. Short and sweet is perfectly acceptable. I had way more fun gliding around swooping down on mooks than I did in any of Fabian's sequences. He's entertaining and likeable but that doesn't make it fun. I mean, I laughed the first time I realized Fabian was doing the voices for the objects he "interrogates" but that's only gonna happen the first time. You can't stretch that joke for 6 hours.

Actually, I think they just didn't know how to tell Fabian's part of the story without the flashback sequences, which is quite simply a failure of story telling. Being dead, his story was already written, after all, so logically it wouldn't be interactive. I still think they should have put the Nomad in Fabian's place, let them both wonder wtf is going on, let you beat up mooks and have Fabian complain and worry about the timeline or some shit, let you talk to Lou and whatnot as if you're the Nomad and not Fabian, let them write it off as just Malk things. Who cares if it makes sense. The combat was already fun, don't take that away. You can do whatever you want in a dream, so it's fine.

>contained to a small area
>>724835224
>padded with so much filler.
Well this just goes back to what this anon>>724834748
is saying doesn't it?

If they made the filler shorter, it wouldn't be much of a filler. They should have made the filler BETTER, like actually fun. Running around as the Nomad is perfectly fine, because if I get bored I can just climb a roof and see if there are any mooks to beat up. They could have made Fabian's running around more fun. But they probably didn't because they thought it would be illogical for a guy who already died to do something that could get him killed sooner.

Its very obvious that he is the poochie of the game and definitely one of the writer's pets/OCs/self insert. I mean they delayed the game a year just to add more dialogue for him and have you play as him for sections of the game. I am a bit curious to look up the writers for this shit and see if some retard that looks like Gaybien is on the team, or if there was character that was cut from another walking sim they made that is just him.

Me too. I liked how she was cool with it when I embraced the hag niggress. Practical. Not heavy-handed or imperious like Lou. A businesswoman who understands both how to make a deal, and the value of making them. She didn't even do anything specific to deserve it (besides being the 1%), and we don't get to watch Lou burn either.
>>724844517
>only real decision you take
Somehow I ended up as sheriff to Katsumi and I don't understand why. Because I didn't tell Lou to her face I wanted to be Prince? Because I didn't want to kill Katsumi because the only wrong she did me was to kind of be a cunt? Because I waffled on not leaving the city?

Just because I was willing to be Ryong's sheriff and not rock the boat doesn't mean I'm willing to be sheriff for an upstart bitch who's been nothing but rude to me even though I gave her Benny, especially after basically everyone in the court died except that zesty nossy faggot. Like surely I outrank that scarred bitch after the endgame.

Wait, should I have let the hag niggress die of AIDS? She'd (or her hunters if you have to kill her) probably have killed all those Anarch scum on her way out. Damn, here I was playing Art of War trying to make enemies into allies and I fucking played myself, is that what happened?

For me, the absolute worst performance is actually Safia. The voice actress feels as if she had to choose between giving an emotional performance the role requires of maintaining her stupid Transilvanian accent, because she can't do both at once. So, we are getting this weird, stilted performance by a very confused VO instead.

Her going 180 in personality really irked me, because it's such a fucking lazy cliche.
The story they were going for would be much more efficient if she genuinely was this nice and sweet dork she was presenting herself as, she just happened to have a goal that fundamentally opposes yours and was led to commit some serious atrocities for what in her mind is a greater good. Because the game really really wants you to feel some sympathy for her, but I really can't be bothered to give a fuck, because she's just a moustache-twirling villain in the end.

>>724852228
Oh yeah I'm not saying the writing wasn't dogshit on top of that, but she specifically does an impression of herself, something like ironically saying "ooooh phyre my love" and she just sounds like she always does. Thus, the VA not being skilled enough to pull off the code switch

>>
>>724852228
>Her going 180 in personality really irked me, because it's such a fucking lazy cliche.
It's not a 180. Safia is "off" pretty much from the start, and she gives off huge red flags at major plot beats. She pretty much falls apart when you kill The Gardener.
>The story they were going for would be much more efficient if she genuinely was this nice and sweet dork she was presenting herself as, she just happened to have a goal that fundamentally opposes yours and was led to commit some serious atrocities for what in her mind is a greater good. Something to understand about Bloodlines 2 is that Safia and Fabien are not really that different. They both did what they thought was necessary. The difference is that Fabien gets to hide behind his aww-shucks manufactured personality while he goes around town ripping people's heads off, but Safia has to retreat into her own delusions. Where Fabien is a monster that pretends to be an angel, Safia is a sad angel pretending to be a monster because she doesn't know what else to do. She's mad. Fabien is mad. Lou, in her own way, is mad.

The tragedy of Safia is that when she's taking to you at the end she's lying to herself and to you.

>>724852465
>Safia is "off" pretty much from the start, and she gives off huge red flags at major plot beats

She says she used Sabbat to achieve her goal in one sentence only to reveal herself as a Sabbat fangirl in the other and she just keeps contraducting herself. Her plan makes no sense, and I can only assume she's been actually driven howling mad by her Malkavisn boyfriend, but that's just me using headcanon to patch up plotholes.
But it would in fact be a good plot twist if it were to turn out that Safia in the end was just a convenient tool for Gideon so he can have his revenge. And if that was an RPG it could've been a good argument to make Safia stand down.
>>
>>724852515
No, you've got it backwards. Safia really is a sweet kind girl that is relentlessly larping as this evil mastermind so much she bought it into being.

Fabien, on the other hand, is a sociopathic monster using everyone around him while projecting this image of being a good guy. He is not a good guy. The court doesn't keep him around because he's a good guy. They keep him around because he has no conscience and is completely delusional. He has no issues carrying out the modern day rebar killings because that is who he really is. It's all framed as a necessary evil, but no, that is who Fabien is.

Because the game's Masquerade system isn't that nuanced and they just thought it would be s cool gimmick. But on tabletop it's literally up to your ST if a Nosferatu breaks the Masquerade or not, because IIRC VtM: Revised states that modern day people are so "rational" that Tzimisce can show up before them in his Chiropteran Marauder form and they would think someone's shooting a movie.

Of course masquerade breach just means humans catching on to vampires being real. If this dude was to wander around on Halloween or somewhere "spooky" themed he'd probably be fine except for people already in the know but that's a different problem.

My favorite thing is that they promised LE NEW WAYS TO APPROACH COMBAT which just makes me think "why wasn't this in the game so you could have different builds?"
>>
>>724854265
>NEW WAYS TO APPROACH COMBAT
And you know all this means is a single new ability tree that cannot be back ported into the main game.

The only difference between clans is their passive, which barely matters. You can buy any clan's disciplines and mix & match them freely. There are no story consequences in any way to any of the clans.
Do not play this game. It is not worth your time

i think an underutilized aspect of the setting is how old lots of vampires really are. like most serious vamps are from the 1500s at least.
imagine how cool it would be running into a dude with a super archaic way of speaking, with an ancient phenotype. but he dresses normally to blend in. i think that would be a really interesting moment that shows what makes this world unique
>>
>>724854365
Also, Safia is too young to turn to dust. It would make sense for Cemile, though.

>>724827553
Banu Haqim + all clan passives unlocked
Start with Possession (which recharges with Toreador passive) on the big guys
Then after Cauldron of Blood to group the remaining enemies up
Dash to them and use Bladed Hand
Punch the rest
I usually end the fights with full HP and all abilities up, just as i started them.

OR just use Unseen Aura and chain feed/kill on every enemy starting with the weak ones, that works too. You can usually end the encounter before it runs out.
>>
>>724855209
>which recharges with Toreador passive
Once I got that I just stayed in cover letting it recharge and making dudes fight each other with posssession
Shit game btw

>>724855063
It's because most of the time, all your adventures happen in USA, because as you know, USA is a center of the universe. And obviously, you won't have that many elder vampires living in the US. To the point Beckett or Aisling are considered "old". All the really old vampires live in Europe and beyond.
I recently led the V20 campaign that took place in 90's Poland. Specifically because it's a giant white spot on the VtM map, so I was allowed to do whatever. And it was fun to see the players interacting with a vampiric court that remembers the good old Middle Ages days.
>>
>>724855181
I am pretty sure after 100 years your body turns to dust. Because apparently it is supposed to revert to the form your body would have after that time. I say apparently, because I assume this is V5 retcon, because I don't think it was a rule in previous editions.
>>
>>724855437
Wait I thought it was always a "time catches up with your body" thing
t. doesn't know anything about the lore
>>
>>724855451
Maybe, I genuinely don't remember that being a rule in Revised and V20, but it might just be my memory failing me.
Also, leaving behind a body is just asking for a Masquerade breach.

>Shit game btw
Only if you're a retard that can't see things objectively. It's serviceable 6/10 game, not great, but not that bad either. The name Bloodlines 2 drags it down and makes people retarded, which is not surprising, because it is retarded to stick to that name.
>>
>>724855676
No, it's shit even without any association with 1
Shouldn't have sold it as an RPG. It would be a 6/10 if they cut out every single Fabien segment. As it stands, it's a 3 at best
Having "it has potential but is insanely boring" combat is not enough to guarantee a 6/10
>>
>>724854742
>>724855063
The shapeshifting would be too complex to put into a game like VTMB2. The only way it would work for something like that is a CRPG game like Disco Elysium

I was thinking that Viccisitude might work similar to how Cyberware works in Cyberpunk 2.0. You get a bunch of fun upgrades and abilities depending on your Discipline level and bloodpoints and told to go to town with builds. And then you get to customize your Tzim visually, like with Daniel in Warhammer 3.
>>
>>724855643
Everyone bursting into hot ash was only a Bloodlines thing bc it looked cool.
>>
>>724855915
Also probably a good way to make it so enemies don't have to react to bodies
>>
>>724855730
>As it stands, it's a 3 at best
Nah, that's not honest. There are no game breaking bugs, at least i didn't encounter one in my playthrough. The visuals are good, the music is okay, the combat is okay, the story is okay. It is an OKAY game, no more, no less. Rating it below 5/10 is dishonest. It is decently made in all regards. Not great, but mediocre at least. Or you're just too young and inexperienced in video games to know really BAD games that could be rated below 5.
>>
>>724855732
Clearly you'd only get one Protean skill, and that's a clawed hand that kills one enemy. Maybe your 4th skill is also Protean with an area of effect attack and there's a big fog/darkness effect with the hint of bat wings (too lazy to make a new model) to imply you shape-shifted in your attack.
>>
>>724856010
How incredibly disingenuous. You complain about the overinflated score scale but then say no game can be rated lower than a 5 without gamebreaking bugs
It is a bad game by all metrics
>>
>>724856023
>fun clans if they were made by VTMB2 devs
Now this is a direction of shitposting I can get behind, based
>>
>>724855915
I guess it had more to do with being easier to program. Because instead of having millions of lines of code that track the individual vampires (because how else the game should know if this vampire is old enough to turn into dust, but this other one isn't?), they went zero-sum and every vampire turns into dust, end of story.
Still, Safia should've had turned to dust anyway, because she's at least a 100+ old vampire.
>>
>>724856235
>Because instead of having millions of lines of code that track the individual vampires (because how else the game should know if this vampire is old enough to turn into dust, but this other one isn't?),
Please never speak authoritatively about any aspect of programming again. You are clearly not qualified
>>
>>724856085
>It is a bad game by all metrics
No, it isn't. You're dishonest.
>>
>>724856313
Cool. Keep being angry about review scales and then rating shit games as 5/10 anyway "because I liked the music"
>>
1-10 rating is a meme anyway
>how fun was the combat?
I had fun exactly once out of 25 hours of game
>should you buy this?
No
>should you play this at all?
Fuck no
>will I ever replay it
Nope
>>
>>724856359
Keep being dishonest and rating mediocre but okay games as "0/10 lmaoo shieet" because you don't know any better, like an asinine ape who can only have fun by shitting on things.
>>
>>724856023
Come to think of it, imagine how fun the Gangrel gameplay could've been if someone actually cared.
>use Animalism to summon animals as a distraction/as meatshields against enemies
>use Animalist to mindfuck other vampires into Frenzy
>use Animalism to finally possess the animal and use it for stealth, like in Dishonored
>use Protean Mist Form to pass through to various vents or grates or Earth Meld as a free get out of jail free card hiding spot.
VtM systems are designed for immersive sim shenanigans.
>>
>>724856492
>1-10 rating is a meme anyway
That's a weak cope. If you can't objectively and honestly rate something you spend your time on on multiple metrics, that means you're a low IQ NPC ape.
>>
>>724856501
>0/10
I rated it as 3/10. You accidentally admitted that you see any rating below 5/10 as equivalent to 0/10. You therefore conceded the argument by proving that it is in fact you who strictly adheres to the inflated review scale.
Have a good day
>>
>>724856584
>I rated it as 3/10
Now go and look up games that universally rated as 3/10 and tell yourself honestly that the quality that they're made on is on the level of BL2. I know you won't ever admit it and will continue to cope and lie to yourself to keep up your facade.
>>
>complains about how reviews rate all games too highly
>"if you look at all the games that review lowly, they're usually much worse, meaning VTMB2 should be rated highly!"
Oh he was just baiting all along, I see

A reboot/different interpretations.
The broad strokes are mostly the same, vampires and vampires, werewolves are werewolves but the actual details, groups, politics and lore are drastically different.
Vampire for instance, in OWoDs The masqurade it is a fact that they are descended from Caine. In The Requiem no one really knows the origin of the vampires since sleeping through the ages has all the elders essentially getting temporary dementia so the origins and dealings of their species is lost to time and they find themselves in this limbo state of never really being able to progress since between the need to hide and everyone forgetting they can't actually build strong relatively long lasting foundations.
