I've been reading the books and game Geralt's voice does not match how I imagine him saying book dialogue at all. I imagine him sounding much softer like a warrior philosopher rather than a gravelly Batman voice

Never played the first, but 2 > 3. Gameplay is bad in both but 2's monsters genuinely feel dangerous and you actually need to prep for them. I also liked the main story in 2 and enjoyed that the plot can branch off depending on your choices. 3 had great DLC stories and good side quests, but I could not give a fuck about Ciri or the main plot. That was the weakest shit and the open world felt mostly empty. Also between yen and triss both are horrible fucking people and I didn't enjoy having to take part in Geralt's toxic relationship simulator. The fourth game should have been just you playing as a custom witcher.

Right now re-reading the books and after that planning to play games again. Is first one worth it? I remember playing a bit, but quickly turning it off. Kinda same with second one, tho I quit mostly because at that time haven't read the books and had no idea what was happening. Third one, played a lot on my shitty laptop, sadly never finished it but pretty sure I beat like half of it, I guess playing on potato quality and 1024x640 (or what even dogshit rez I was playing at) on "stable" 20-25fps finally gotten me and I quit. So looking forward replaying third one, but not sure about the first two

>>724842087Probably one of my most contrarian opinions but I always liked 2 the most. It was always consitently good, pacing, story and quest wise, also liked the gimmick where the entire act 2 changes based on your choice in act 1. Meanwhile Witcher 3 had dogshit main story villains (whoreson, menge, schizodovid, wild hunt), questionable writing (dijkstra's final scene) and pacing (quest for ciri), the final act also sucks really, really fucking bad after you wake ciri up. Higher higs than TW2 but its lows are truly awful.
They all have their pros and cons and are generally all very good.1 has good atmosphere and story however suffers heavily at points from pacing issues (swamps etc). When the story is moving it's really good, kino ending. Combat is alright, not as bad as people say although probably not spazzy enough for a modern crowd.2 has peak Roach gameplay and is generally pretty good. Looked unbelievably good at release, basically the Crysis of its time. People complained a lot because the combat was hard for the first chapter or two on first play through.3 is good although doesn't tie into 2 well enough, it feels weirdly disjointed when you play them back to back. Some characters also look and feel very different between games and it's off-putting. I personally don't like a complete open world and I think that The Witcher benefits from tighter pacing around monsters and difficulty, it suffers the worst from being hard at the start and easy by the end. Witcher 2 had some broken ass talents in the Alchemy tree that basically multiples your damage, crit chance, etc when you're in a poisoned state which is all the time with potions.They had to nerf the Alchemy tree in the Witcher 3 though the metamorphosis build comes close.
