Here you witness what kind of discrimination the droids are getting from humankind. But you can make out that these people have lost their jobs to androids, hence the hostility against the droids. Todd here showcases that consequence directly. Todd is practically jobless because of the androids. He has overdue bills. One can assume the actual wife and kid left him because of that. This is what those big corpos and droids has done to human families on a personal level. By having Kara and Alice at home, and him breaking down during dinner, it shows that there's still some humanity left in him. All he wanted was family. Which he lost because of the droids overtaking everyone's jobs. Him being out of job, was further worsened by that new drug compound, the Red Ice, which is also a key part of the narrative throughout the game.
