I just really, really liked the lumina/picto system. And the character 'classes' are pretty neat and interesting. The back-up party thing is also rather neat. That alongside the game having an explorable overworld and a world full of hidden secrets, was enough for me to really love the game. Even if the game balance falls apart by the end of the second act. And even though the story is kind of a mess. I want more games like this. Like we used to get.

In this game's case it's a combination of animations I think and lighting. The software lumen has this horrible cheap GI effect where everything has this inappropriate grey glow. Blacks are grey, browns are orange, all objects are glowing and lacking their proper contrast. The free roam animations are also really light and lacking in any weight. So what you get is this effect where it looks like all the characters and objects are made of paper with lightbulbs inside, it's very visually obvious that you're looking at a hollow surface mesh in a video game. Not sure how else to describe it.I do not have this issue with Unreal games that use hardware ray traced lumen though. Oblivion doesn't have it, Robocop doesn't have it, everything in those games looks and feels as tactile and 3D as it should. So could definitely be an issue with software GI which in all honesty ought to be ditched, revert to traditional lighting solutions in the absence of hardware accelerated ray tracing.
