I dare you answer either of these questions in a definitive and conclusive way.

>Why did GMS capture Hornet alive?

>Who let Hornet out of her cage?

Dunno about the first one, but the second one I'm pretty sure everyone agreed it was Lace.
>it was a silk butterfly that landed on the cage
>we see Lace conducting silk butterflies when Hornet runs into her for the first time
>Lace somehow already knows about the cage incident
but also
>when you're about to leave Moss Grotto a silk butterfly flies up the exit shaft, likely to imply Lace was spying on Hornet
>>
>>724855193
>definitive and conclusive way
Well I can't do that but I'm pretty sure Hornet being part weaver GMS just wanted more silk power.
>>
>>724855193
>Why did GMS capture Hornet alive?
To harvest her silk. Shes also have wyrm so its notnlike shes easy to kill.
>Who let Hornet out of her cage?
Lace, thats pretty obvious.

Why did you ask these two questions like they were some obscure plot hole or something? Are you slow?
>>
if they didnt make green guy gay we would drown under all fanart of him getting shiped with hornet
it had to be done
>>
>>724854851
Why would Hornet care when she's gay herself? Oh I see, it's a Japanese artist being homophobic, as per usual. How quaint!
>>
>>724855330
>>724855376
>>724855474
>To harvest her silk
GMS is the primordial source of silk. She invented it. Every bit of silk in the world came from her. Why would she possibly need Hornets?

>Lace freed Hornet
I'm not convinced. The game relishes in revealing that the silk moths are in fact the extracted souls of bugs, the way they help Hornet by showing her towards the Mosshome spire and guiding her through the Mists implies that they maintain individual will. Yes, we see Lace attracting them with music, but no evidence that she can actually control them to the degree of opening a magical cage. Lace does not control silk, despite being made of it. All her attacks are physical and kinetic. I found it more likely that the moth that freed Hornet was the soul of a Weaver.
>>
>>724855673
>tranny nonsense
>>
>>724855760
>Why would she possibly need Hornets?
Because she's weak. Really, really fucking weak.
And hornet's not the first either. There's a hidden room full of broken cages with signs describing various weaver descendants that were captured and brought to the cradle
>>
>>724855760
>I'm not convinced.
You're not supposed to be, it's left vague on purpose to make it more interesting. But this is what the community agreed on. And to be honest, it gives Lace a bit more character so I'll take it.
>>
>>724855937
>muh fanfics
Yeah this is what Lacetards rely on, they instinctively know their favorite character is shit so they have to make up a bunch of nonsense to pretend she's not.

Lace is already the most hated character in these threads, you don't have to larp as a tranny faggot to make her look worse.
>>
>>724855193
>>Why did GMS capture Hornet alive?
She was lonely and wanted company (read: someone to praise her like the Weavers did at first). It's unclear whether she realized Hornet's also the child of a higher being which made her substantially stronger than the other Weaver hybrids, she could have eventually binded Hornet for a powerup like in that one deleted cutscene.
>>Who let Hornet out of her cage?
Lace. She had a childish temper tantrum that mommy isn't noticing her and sending expeditions to retrieve random children/grandchildren so she freed Hornet mainly to fuck with mommy's expedition/efforts and at worst Hornet would get herself killed or at best Hornet would lay waste to Pharloom for an extra fuck you to mommy.

Hated by whom? A couple insecure incels that samefag these threads? She's the most important character in the game after Hornet, it would be pretty fucking dumb to like Silksong but hate on Lace. It's exactly like SOTN and Richter. DMC and Vergil, Bayonetta and Jeanne, and so on.
>>
>>724855890
>hidden room full of broken cages
Yeah, I found it. But it didn't answer the question as to why they were brought there. To be killed? It's easier to kill someone than bring them in alive. To have their silk harvested? Pharloom is covered in massive ropes of Silk that span the entire landscape. There seems to be no shortage of silk, and I doubt a couple dusty spiders can produce much anyhow. I know the game likes to cocktease discussion by leaving things vague, but this only works if there are multiple viable and interesting answers, each aided by clues.
>>
>>724856358
>She was lonely and wanted company
Seems a bizarre motivation for a god, no? What is the evidence for this?
>>
>>724856465
Your tranny fanarts do not help your point, she's the most astroturfed character in the game, a very shitty rival that are in no way comparable to fucking Vergil or Richter, and a garbage plot device rather than a properly established character with terrible personality. The game would've been significantly better if she was sidelined for sure, which is why so many people either are disappointed by or simply dislike Act 3.

Silkbros random question. What type fanfic stories you would have been interested in reading or planning to create? Would have liked to read a Horror/Slice of Life/Adventure about a OC reincarnated as the Mottled Skarr Merchant, or one of the Outcasted Mottles Skarr in general, who once they develop good enough skills and defenses set out to find a semi-permanent home for themselves AKA...the Citadel because of potential free real-estate within it once Hornet arrives and frees the Citadel citizens somewhat from the Haunting control. Basically it's not a power-fantasy get good story but just trying to survive, help out random NPCS if they can, are not trying to go up against or take out powerful enemies such as Karmelita, GMS or Pale Stag and wanting to chill and possibly work with Relic Keeper Scrounge by finding relics for her and develop a romantic interest as time goes on.

You don't have a lot of experience with mythology.
They were here "divine daughters" but they betrayed her :

H
>You speak of the Citadel? Its former function has failed, but I can still sense its purpose, some. It is church and cage both.
Mask Maker:
>Devised by your ancestors that monstrosity, and their wicked, clever minds. A system, or a web they'd likely call it, a way to keep their mother sealed in slumber, and themselves free to lavish in their false rule.

it didnt quite work. The weavers did not in fact break free even as GMS was bound

Eva
>Only one monarch's claws ever clutched this kingdom, though we raised our voices to cry otherwise.
>There my mothers built their tools, all traps and bindings. Small things, but tests for larger forms.I still remember their thoughts as they worked, their desperation, and their hunger. Another hopeless attempt to wrest their freedom. All ended in failure, of course.

Weavenest Atla Needolin dialogue:
>...Is it done? ...Our runes... Our Silk... ...To bind her... tight... ...To keep us free...
Rune Harp: Plea of a Weaver from the furthest edge of Pharloom.
>Flee, sisters. Flee until your strength exhausts, so far you may escape at last her silken sight. To start anew, to sustain, free of web and service eternal.

the journal entry :
>Heart of the Haunting, long lulled to slumber and desperate to wake. The higher being's threads stretched throughout Pharloom, snaring its bugs and driving them to madness and discord.

the craddle silk heart text :
>...Better a child spun frail... than none... ...Better a child spun pure... than them... ...One to wish our waking... ...From our Silk... A child born loyal...

so - GMS is still trapped, she is lonely, she is hurt and she is bitter. She remembers how her daughters fucked her over. She wants them back - to serve her as the god she is AND suffer the price of their betrayal AND bring forth her reawakening (possibly, not sure).
>>
>>724855890
>weavers in the cradle
Because GMS desires essentially total death of the weavers

Maybe Widow showed adequate reverence towards her, and was allowed to live as a half breed, snipped from all silk generation

GMS cannot allow the weaver to live without worshipping her, is the biggest thing. She cannot allow anyone to live without worshipping her, but especially weavers
>>
>>724854851
After learning that the Challenge button exists, I've been trying to use it more often and I'm disappointed with it
>If seems to flat out refuse to work if the enemy is beneath the ledge you're standing on, forcing you to interact with the bad enemy positioning when you want to descend
>Very short range and can't be used midair, so a lot of the flying faggots can just hover outside your taunt range indefinitely while hurling bullshit at you
>Only makes the enemies do a lil nudge towards you, and then they immediately start retreating because lmao keepaway AI, you really have to spam it to force them to actually approach you
>Costs silk for some faggot fucking reason, meaning say goodbye to your entire bar
The flying mobs in Underworks and Choral Chambers remain among the most annoying videogame enemies to ever exist. This "counter" strat is severely underbaked because I guess the intended experience is to be fucking faggot shit and you're supposed to not be having fun.
>>
>>724860609
Eh, those small snippets do not really make it clear they betrayed her, as much as they desired to leave her influence.

That can be construed as betrayal by someone insane, possessive and spiteful, I suppose.

The "deep" "slumber" they put her in still allowed conscious thought, acts such as making new daughters, dooming one daughter to death when GMS grew tired of her, killing the entirety of the citadel through silk influence and addiction, ordering the conductors to hunt weavers etc etc

Weavers essentially just tried slowing GMS down so they could leave. They could've tried rising up against her with arms. They could've tried bringing down the citadel. They could've tried binding her (would be easy if she actually was asleep), but did nothing of the sort.

Such acts would construe "true rebellion", "true betrayal".

What actually happened was more subtle.

It's about how she saw it.

>For it must be noted, that men must either be caressed or else annihilated; they will revenge themselves for small injuries, but cannot do so for great ones; the injury therefore that we do to a man must be such that we need not fear his vengeance.

With gods it's amped to 11. You trick a god to run away, you're in the ballpark of "ironic torture for all eternity". All greek / norse / celtic gods are like that, and HK / SS are in the same ballpark (bug Arthurian maybe)

Besides.... the weavers would have wrecked her if they could - they foresaw someone will "weave them free" one day. Hornet has either been worked towards relentlessly (she was a bargain with the pale king) or prophesized.

Only with using the Pendant do I feel like I'm not putting myself in debt with every individual tool use, and I can break even on my expenses by traversing the level (presumably as intended). Feels like this is a charm slot that has to be sacrificed just for the game to play properly.

>>724855193
>>Why did GMS capture Hornet alive?
The same reason she wanted the other Weavespawn captured alive; revenge for her imprisonment coupled with a desire to punish them for their ancestors transgressions. We see dozens of rune cages in the Cradle, so it's not like Hornet is a special case. It's even suggested in GMS own dialogue upon collecting the first silkheart that Hornet be allowed to serve GMS if she shows contrition.

>>Who let Hornet out of her cage?
Unambiguously Lace. As has been pointed out, a silkfly breaks the runes binding Hornet at the start of the game and we see them repeatedly guiding her up out of the moss grotto and at various key points until we discover Lace conducting them. She then goes on to taunt Hornet and all of her interactions clearly demonstrate an inferiority complex at the prospect of GMS replacing her with Hornet because she's not a real girl.

The game really isn't that hard to follow, you just need to pay attention to the environmental cues and read the intractables.

so if I understand it right it is entirely possible GMS was collecting weavers and was going to spank hornet
>>
>>724855193
>>Why did GMS capture Hornet alive?
She didn't, the Choristers did under command of the Conductors, nobody knows GMS' true reasoning for anything and anyone who claims otherwise is lying, and that's literally the point because she's stuck in her cocoon not even half-lucid while the Haunting gives everyone vague instructions that fucks with their head but nothing that specific. It's more likely the Haunting went "WEAVERS, SILK, zzzzz" and the Conductors interpreted that as going out and gathering Weaverspawn for their silk, preferably alive but dead if necessary. The only thing we know is GMS is the dialogue from the silk hearts, and that's still half-lucid and vague about why everything his happening.

Not knowing GMS' true feelings is why Lace is supposed to be tragic, because she think GMS doesn't love her and wants Hornet as a surrogate daughter, when GMS would rather let all of Pharloom crumble to protect Lace and gives the last of her life for a chance to let Lace escape. That would not be possible if GMS had Harbinger-style assuming direct control because she could simply order the entire Citadel to treat Lace as a pampered princess.
>>
>>724862478
I know that the Wiki says she's the last loyal Weaver, and that may even have been the intention for her in an earlier iteration of the game, but it's clear that Widow is the Weaver in quarter part staked to serve whose rune cage we see in the Cradle. Hornet herself observed that she only seemed a Weaver in form, there's absolutely nothing conclusive which says she's one of the OG.

The alternative is that the other Weavers pinned her silk and let her roam loose, rather than just imprisoning her forever like they did First Sinner, which doesn't make sense when we already know that they were willing to imprison another Weaver forever because she wasn't on board with the plan.

Widow is a thinblood weavling who's mind was blown by communing with Grand Mother Silk and became an insane zealot after her capture and torture at the hands of the Choir. She's not the last of the first and if she says that she is, it's only because she's crazy.

It sucks that Silksong will be denied GOTY awards, when it's the only game this year to deserve it. Then again, (((journalists))) have absolute terrible taste, so it's no surprise.

>same size as First Sinner

>same theme as First Sinner
>same voice lines as First Sinner
>most of her moves are the same as First Sinner
>calls herself "last of the first" when the Weavers are constantly referred to as "first children"
>post-fight memory from her binding, so not connected to GMS or anyone but Widow, is of all the Weavers
I really don't know what else the game needs to say to get you to clue in. If that one single rune cage didn't exist then you'd have no problem accepting she was a Weaver.
Why did the other Weavers let her roam free? Because with her mask broken and silk bound she wasn't a threat and was just a beast. She was only able to do anything by manipulating GMS' silk.
And additional with First Sinner herself, it's not confirmed that the Weavers had her locked away, her post-fight dialogue directs her ire specifically at GMS, and her pre-fight dialogue is the same "daughter of a distant land" as the other Weaver corpses you bind skills from. This leaves two alternate possibilities: that GMS was the one who ordered her bound (the Slab is mostly stone so this could predate the more ornate Weaver-led Citadel) or First Sinner agreed to be bound so her skill could be received by the prophesied Weaverspawn like the other skills. Or a combination of both.
The quarter-Weaver is probably Styx.

>If that one single rune cage didn't exist then you'd have no problem accepting she was a Weaver.
Correct. But it does exist, and it explicitly describes what we see in the game - a Weaverspawn that has been mutilated with stakes to control her. That's not the case with Styx, Widow is the only character we encounter that even comes close to that description.

"Staked to service" does not explicitly describe "mutilated with pins to bind her silk."

Sure looks like she's been staked. Or is "staked to service" supposed to mean, "squatting in Sinner's Road IDK"?
>>
>>724866295
Your position relies on two assumptions: 1) that your own personal definition of "staked to service" is correct with no other possibilities, and 2) that the Weaverspawn was staked to service after being taken and was not described as being staked to service underneath the City of Steel. In short, you're falling for the classic case of assuming your position to be fact and warping all evidence to fit that point, rather than generating a point based on all available evidence.

With all the mountains of evidence you hang on one (1) lore tablet and interpreting it in only the most narrow way possible because you have nothing else to support your argument and you admit it.

The main point is that Widow is a full blooded Weaver, the quarter-Weaver could be some random Grand Reed for all I care.

I'm not sure how this would work, but I feel like the game should let you into Act 3 without doing all the fetch quests at the price of getting a bad ending after killing Lost Lace somehow. The true end where you get saved by Big Bro would be reserved for completionists, but please don't make me have to do all these fetch quests every single time please
>>
>>724867748
This, but I would take it a step farther; all the side quest stuff should equip the NPCs to better survive the fall. If you don't build up Bone Bottom, there's no survivors camp. If you don't build up Songclave, Sherma dies. If you don't build up Bellhart, it's destroyed. Lock off all that content in act III if you didn't do the prerequisites in Act II.

>I feel like the game should let you into Act 3 without doing all the fetch quests
The point of locking act 3 behind those quests is to show Hornet actually growing enough to give a shit about the local bugs instead of seeing them as lesser beings to be subjugated and ruled over. Its the only reason she goes throught he taps shit and doesnt just bind GMS' power and supplant her

Lace is the best guess we have as to who freed Hornet, but I don't see why she'd do such a thing. Isn't her whole deal that she has an inferiority complex and desperately seeks GMS's love? Why would she set free the only competition for her mother's attention when she could intercept and kill a weakened Hornet then and there, especially since GMS would be none the wiser?
>>724856358
>she freed Hornet mainly to fuck with mommy's expedition/efforts
Lace acts as GMS's devoted sentinel up until Hornet beats her in the Cradle, so I don't see why she'd want to throw a wrench in her mother's plans yet.
>>724857745
NTA, but the idea that "GMS just wanted a fwend because she was wonewy" isn't as self-evident as you're making it out to be. Frankly, it's ridiculous, considering she tries to kill Hornet throughout the game and makes no attempt to subjugate her or turn her into a devotee a la Widow. Elaborate, and quit being a condescending prick.
>>724860128
Clearly not, because nearly everyone ITT has come up with a varying interpretation.
>GMS wants to grow more powerful by binding Hornet (because she needs more silk? because Hornet is half-wyrm?)
>GMS wants to exterminate the remaining weavers and their spawn (why bother capturing them alive?
>GMS wants to punish the remaining weavers and their spawn
>GMS didn't consciously order Hornet's capture, but the conductors/haunted envoys interpreted her silken will that way
>>724861005
Why do people get so worked up over flying enemies? I've never had an issue with them, and I've 100% the game twice. Just get under them and slash up, or clawline into pogo, or use walls to get above them and pogo, or use any one of Hornet's myriad tools.
>>724861819

Watch the cutscene again, retard-kun. Something happens before that.

Not quite. It's effectively the same 4 lines, just worded slightly differently. See picrel.
>>
>>724869105
She frees Hornet to show she is the superior daughter by defeating her in a duel.
>>
>>724869105
First Sinner is Big Mad and only permits herself to be bound after making Hornet work for it.

Also a little bit racist.

Dude. It's a taunt. It's not mind control. It's not the needolin.

I dropped this game because it was too hard, how do I get good and pick it back up? I like fighting random goons and traversing the map but im too bad at beating bosses and the time its taking me to learn their moveset is too much for my skill level (unironically)
>>
>>724869105
Lace is an irrationally bratty child. She wants mommy to love her, but she thinks mommy isn't noticing her when she does good things. So now she's breaking all of mommy's toys to try and be noticed. It's not supposed to be what a rational adult would do because she an irrational child.
>>
>>724869929
>how do I get good
just keep trying the same boss until you beat him, no matter how many tries. it worked for me.
>>
>>724869929
Have you played Hollow Knight? It's designed on many of the same principles but is easier. Nine Sols is another metroidvania with punishing/difficult bosses but has more robust defensive options. Playing those can give you a better foundation of how to move in the space and how to use your tools.

Additionally, you could use a steam recording and go back when you die to watch what your mistakes were. When were you too aggressive? When did you give a boss room to maneuver when you could've set the tempo? When did you jump in a panic straight into an attack? When did you move without a plan?
>>
>>724868304
>muh lore

I don't think widow is the staked hybrid. Hornet is only half weaver and she already looks pretty different to the first generation. But anyways, I'm more surprised the steel masters didn't go after the citadel for taking one of their slaves. They don't seem like the type to just let one of their own get away.
>>
>>724871725
Pharloom was collapsing regardless so it made for a neat spectacle to observe.
