>JRPGs prior to EarthboundDraw a background vaguely resembling the environment you're in>EarthboundFuck it I don't care just pretend it's trippy brooooo
Mother is one of the least-imitated series in Japan you homophile, there is zero foundation beyond it for this assertion.
He’s a moron that believes that Undertale is a rip of Mother when the reality is that Mother is not at all like Undertale and only is referenced occasionally.
>>724855256How often are you going to keep spamming this thread, you worthless transexual?
>>724855256>erathboundanimate background for no fucking reason and have absolutely zero animation not just of enemy, but even of attacks, making the combat look and feel like absolute garbage,
>>724855310>>724855769We're talking about Earthhbound, not Mother. I don't know why you're bringing some literal-who Japshite into this conversation.>>724855256It amazes me how no Earthbound likes really capture the Mother tone. Of playing as a kid going on an adventure in America. The closest is Undertale but that's more about exploring fantasy. I wanna see the not-Blues Brothers, painting cults, explore suburbs and deserts. Going from a beach to winter boarding school to space was impactful because we went from one environmental extreme in our world to another, to another. One disappointment I feel is with Mother 3's pacing/story focused. I like how the story in 2 was more, for lack of a better term, gamey/subtle. Like we are shown concisely that Porky's dad is a jerk with the music, sound effects, dialog, etc etc. Mother 3 would have made a cutscene of it, robbing the subtext of Porky's character.
>>724855256>NOOO YOU HAVE TO HAVE LE GENERIC GRASSY BACKGROUND OR BROWN DUNGEON WALLS IN EVERY SINGLE GAME AT ALL TIMES FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! AIIEEEEE SAVE ME NIGGERMAN I CANT TAKE THIS
>>724856038>earthbound: exploring surreal japanese vision of 90s america and then the world>undertale: explore transitioning to the opposite gender and becoming a furfag
>>724856096Japan always does American concepts better than America. I can't name a single western game that holds a fraction of the kino Japan makes, hence why trannytale can only achieve popularity by having the dev larp as a quirky Japanese man. Yet he's unrecognized in Japan... I wonder why?
>>724856216>Yet he's unrecognized in Japan... I wonder why?i think its best if you go back to the rock you live under. you'll be happier there.
both the mother series and undertale follow a similar design philosophy in that all the characters are just themselves and not inherently evil. with the exception of porky in mother 2 and giygas' incarnation in that game.but mostly every character just follows what feels right to them and no one is really evil for evil's sake.mother 1's villain isn't all that evil since he just leaves when you remind him of his stand in mother.mother 2's enemies only do bad things because giygas influenced them and you snap everyone out of it by the end. only porky and giygas in this game specifically are fully evil. maybe aloyisus too.in mother 3 every villainous character has good traits to balance it out minus porky. the pigmasks are just regular people doing their job and trying to get by and they get constant humorous moments.fassad took care of a mouse who loved him so he wasn't all bad. wess cared for his son even if he was way too fucking rough with him, and he cared about tazmily and was one of the few to call out the ongoing corruption.the mecha drago was a loving mother.the masked man loved his family and snaps out of doing evil once he remembers them.the chimeras are only violent because they were spliced together and experimented on.it's a lot like undertale where none of the monsters are even evil. flowey isn't even all bad and you can snap him out of being evil in pacifist.the amalgamates aren't evil either. they just act funny because they were experimented on.
>>724857780Even Porky doesn't qualify entirely as pure evil, the kid was clearly whipped by his parents daily with a belt. It makes sense he'd turn out like that.
>>724857874that's a good point too. most characters just feel humanized.
>>724857874Plenty of kids are abused and don't turn out like Porky. Shit, his own little brother is a pretty good kid. A shitty childhood can only excuse so much, anon.
>>724858169His little brother is clearly also being abused and is coping by withdrawing from the world rather than lashing out at it.
>>724855256I wish more RPG games went into the 60s-80s (?) sci-fi environment t b h. It did the retro futuristic stuff better than Fallout in my opinion. The unique setting of this game is what puts it above mother 3 for me. I might play it again for the fourth time in some years.
>>724855256which generation of JRPGs did it ruin? do you have any examples?
>>724858375One of the things I don't like about Earthboundlikes is that they have no interest in a fun view of America that's relatable and nostalgic and wholesome yet with a kid's view of adventure just right around the street corner.
>>724858169the point still stands because porky is humanized even if he became irredeemably evil in the end.every character is humanized except aloyisus. even giygas in m2 is still humanized because he was in m1.i think that's what makes it feel like a mother game. even all the npcs are humanized or have little interesting diaologues to say.even some of the text when fighting enemies feels very humanized and personalized like how the "annoying businessmen" and "cranky ladies" will complain to you. or how hippies will insult you. or how negative man will just feel despressed and not even attack. or how the "whatevers" only fight you if you engage in battle with them. otherwise they'll follow you around and make hearts at you. the hippo launchers also only attack if you engage first.
