Yes but IGN has stepped their game up tremendously in the last year or so. Their reviews recently have been quality.

Did they fire the tranny and woman reviewers?

I think all game journalists need to be taken out with a baseball bat

Goodwill doesn't really matter if most people have completely moved on to other other sources of information.
>>
BG3 was the death knell for them
Why bother bribing journos when doing fake grass root campaigns on reddit and discord and 4chan is so much more effective
All the reviewers rushing to agree with the consensus that had already been made without them instead of taking a fat shit on that buggy mess like they should have just doubled down on how obsolete they are now

It's been dead for quite a while now.
Games journalism died with this sweaty fat fuck in 2013.

Wow, they're about 15 years late to the party.

I choose neither honestly

haha funny, now put the fries in the bag.

No, just games journalists.
It's never been easier to get news and opinions about video games.
That's the problem.

As always people criticize game journalists in general but rarely in particular (because most of reviewers are ok) the same way they do with games:
>Gaming sucks now!

It's Time To Start Trusting Gaming Journalists.

It's declining in numbers yes
In terms of quality it hit rock bottom decades ago

most of their practical relevance as middlemen ended when social media became ubiquitous. as critics they've always lagged behind amateur sources, all they offer being dumbed down propriety(which they periodically fail to meet in various embarrassing displays) that's only relevant to entry level consumers and superflous prose. for any industry as large as gaming there's a place for serious economic analysis and reporting but that's as well covered by the wall-street journal and bloomberg than IGN.

I don't specifically care about games journalism. I mean DF can still provide a service as a benchmarking channel I suppose, if they want to survive the wave of journo death then reorient to tech tube primarily. Then again a lot of their views have been challenged lately by Threat Interactive and a lot of that drama could potentially take them out in the end.

But on the actual subject of games journalists, they have not ever helped me find the games that I like playing. And when they have reviewed games and scored it negatively a lot of the time I think that they scored wrong. So nowadays the best way to know how to play games is simply by getting them myself. Some people can't live without these irrelevant hacks and being told what to think. They treat a game journos score as the definitive evaluation, but it's not and it never was. These people are paid more money than they should earn to do what people on online user reviews systems do for free, and are usually equal in their ability of writing, if not better. Usually better. It's a profession that is absolutely worthless because they have not proved it's worth. It's not uncommon for them to score good games poorly and bad boring games highly.

in decline? they are irrelevant.

Games journalism is unironically stronger than ever, but the best journalists wouldn’t call themselves journalists, in fact they probably aren’t even what you think of when you hear the word “gaming journalist”

But a guy going in, playing a game, making a review based on it, and reporting on it? There’s like a thousand YouTubers that do that and that’s basically all gaming journalism is
>>
from my perspective digital foundry has a base level reason to exist, they articulate minutia that's beyond my own level of understanding. it is very rare for me to encounter a novel insight from a traditional games journalist.

You might be retarded.
>>
>>724855496
These faggots lie too so they're part of the problem. Literally everything is just clickbait/ragebait, engagement farming now
>>
>>724855496
they've been "in decline" since the web undermined print. as i told you, it was completely fucking over after livestreaming got big. nobody other than boomiest of boomers was going to read a review when they had direct access to gamers they actually like and can watch any new game in real time. it just took the retarded investors a decade to realize they were not going to make back the money they put into paying these NYT rejects. it was double over when E3 was canceled and that should have been the last wake up call. the show wasn't for them but they could piggyback off of it to seem relevant to their readers, and with that gone, they have nothing.

>>724855496
I'm recently seeing posts about "Dragon Age Veilguard not being that bad guys, give it a chance"
So I'm inclined to believe they're still being paid off or have absolute garbage tastes.
