This game is dogshit if you don't have nostalgia for it. And if you have nostalgia for it, you are low IQ.
>>724873153Nobody cared about the campaign until multiplayer stopped being active, it's like CoD
>>724873153to the contrary the game still holds up like a fine wine
>>724873153For me that's DOOM. I can't like vanilla DOOM. Slow af without vertical aim. It's simply boring. Brutal DOOM makes it playable but still far from a genuinely fun game.
>>724873153It's a masterpiece that pushed the medium and its genre forward.
>>724873529>>724873520Both of these. I recognise how important it was to the genre, but I'm bored to tears trying it now.
>>724874952It's the kind of game that bores me to treats, I love playing Halo on Xbox!
>>724873153It's a good game, even a great game. Map design, enemy AI and variety, weapon sandbox, colorful artstyle and graphics, the setting and plot were good for the time. It's just that consolefags hold it as the gold standard for gameplay. It's just a slow floaty arena shooter, that's all it fucking is. It succeeded as an FPS in the primitive console market because HOLY SHIT IT USES TWO STICKS, but PC shooters were already moving away from the arena genre. And once other shooter franchises began establishing themselves on consoles in the 360/ps3 gen and offered more complex gameplay than arena shooters, Halo was doomed to slide into irrelevancy. Even if Bungie stuck around and kept making bangers, it still would have declined. You just can't innovate and improve arena shooter gameplay without it no longer being an arena shooter and alienating its original fanbase. You saw that in Reach with the introduction of sprint, bloom, as well as class loadouts. Ironically if they just put all spartan abilities as map pickups like they did with the roll ability then people would have been happier with it.
>>724875939Despite all the coping and the seething, Halo CE was the best FPS until Halo 2. Nothing on PC came close.
>>724873153not true, I played it for the first time recently and I enjoyed the campaign
>>724873153Halo Custom Edition is where this game really shined. Hugeass, Cold Snap, Snow Grove, Cronopolis the list goes on
>>724875939The level design is some of the worst in the genre
>>724873153I honestly can't think of the last game I played with good enemy AI, music, vehicles, and on foot action.CAN YOU?I can't honestly think of a game that allows me to jump in and out of a tank and blow up bad guys that aren't online players.
>>724876002Where is the cope and seethe in my post?>>724876195I genuinely liked it, but I get why it's a meme. The last few levels being repeats played in reverse was a shame, but it was still cool and they made changes to help them play differently. I think CE has objectively better level design than Halo 2, which is nothing but linear corridors and long wave defense sections.
Halo was big because you could do couch co-op and up to 16 man matches without having to drag 16 PCs into one location for a LAN party.
>>724876425Snide dismissal of the game despite it being a massive success on PC as well in the following years, demonstrating a lack of historical awareness and an interest in spreading misinformation.Try as you might, that's not going to get you to fit in here.
>>724876813You sneaking in Halo CE.exe to play on your school's computers might have made you cool with your friends, but comparing the game's success on PC compared to console is just stupid. The game is fucking good, people liked it on both PC and console, but that's not the argument here.
I think it's easy to prove how great Halo is with a simple exercise. Just think about the entire game for a minute. Replay it in your head. How many specific encounters come to mind?I'm willing to be that for most people who played the game a lot of specific encounters will come to mind in vivid detail. The enemies, the rooms, the paths, even the weapons you might be using. Maybe it's that rocky hill with the sniper, maybe it's the fight at the grav lift, or the bridge with sleeping grunts, or the big icy field with ghosts. Even if you don't exactly know what makes Halo so great it's a deeply memorable game that has a Tetris effect on your brain. You might not have played Halo for a long time but occasionally you'll think about it and still get the urge to play just one level.
>>724876425i fucking love how the maw takes place on the pillar of autumn. the "horse you road in on" moment is somber and heavy. the library into two betrayals is admittedly a slog playing solo but at least betrayals has tank and banshee segments
>>724873153>2005>All new PCs in newly built high school >Someone put Halo CE Demo on network drive >Spend two years playing Halo in school Underage newfags pretending to be oldfags don't know what nostalgia is >Unreal Tournament 2004 also
>>724873153Agreed
>>724877194No, you're still evading the argument. It was the best FPS of its time by a huge margin.
>>724873153Thankfully I don't care about you or your opinion.
>>724877953This. I like Halo. Eh kills aliens and doesn't afraid of anything.
